- Humvee Build - Installing Air conditioning in a Humvee
In this video (part 10 of the Humvee Build), I am installing a ColdMaster Universal Air Conditioning system in the Humvee. The reason I went with this kit rather than the RedDot system is because I feel like the red dot systems are big and bulky and I wanted something that would fit on top of the radio tray. This system has been working perfectly for the past month and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting A/C in their military vehicle.

I should have stated this in the video, I did leave enough slack in the lines to take the unit off the radio tray and set it on the seat if I need to access the back of the engine.
can you go through deep water & NOT damage your installed a/c?
"Nice Hiss" LOL Sounds like a Steve1989info quote. Great Vid.
Papa Bones hahaha I was hoping someone would catch that!!!
Hallo Dakota, Good Morning, - Thank you very much, see you again, following your Publikation,
and learning - *Practice....... for my next Project... Regards from Germany
Great video thanks for sharing your skills and teaching me how to do.
Dakota, great job man! Thanks for putting out these videos. I finally got those front xdoors for my rig yesterday from your neck of the woods. I will attempt to add ac following your video.
Romaello D'Franco sweet man! Text me anytime if you need help!
Great thing :-) As always a great video you have done! Greetings, Jürgen
wuilderhund Thanks my friend :)
Im. Freaking. Hooked. Cannot wait for more vids man!
Love the new intro bud, im still waiting on that in depth video of the slantback
ProDiiGy Thanks man! & I’ll have one out soon!
Hey man. Love the videos. Can you showcase the audio system you're adding? I'm looking at a BOSS setup now and I saw the bluetooth receiver on the box. Did you do a soundbar or go with boxed speakers? If you have time, a video on the stereo system would be cool.... Keep 'em coming bro, you're slaying it.
Isaac Irvine thanks buddy & will do! I’ll make one very soon. I am running just 4 boxed speakers. Two speakers in the box on top of the radio tray and one speaker under each back seat. The system sounds awesome, it can go really loud and still sound good, and it is all waterproof! I definitely recommend the system.

Next time you install a kit, you'll have to "get everything out onto a tray" nice!
Thanks for this video, doing the AC on my hmmwv right now, I saw you kept the 4 belt setup, some guys say you need a 5 belt pulley, hows the 4 belt system been holding up? I dont see why you have to have 5 belts!
I wonder how you end up solving this problem .. This video don't show how he put the belt or wich belt he used.. Im working on my as well . already 2 belts and they don't fit😞
I like your A/C system... General idea of what a kit like that cost?
How well does it cool? Ive been looking at these kits but nervous they are not going to be able to cool such a big vehicle that leaks so much air in and out. Does it actual keep you cool in the truck or does it just blow some cool air?
Nice job, great video showing install!
mborkush I was thinking the same at first but I have been very impressed with how well it works. It keeps the whole inside of the truck cold, I’d say that it works just as well as a new car’s A/C system. When looking on the cold master website, make sure you get the systems with the higher CFM output.
Cool vid!
So the compressor is running off the main pully? Did you have to remove one of the belts from the Alternator? Nice video.
Hi Dakota i love your videos they very helpful .. I mean no disrespect but your video is lacking a lot of information the i see is a concern to a lot of us . will you please make another video showing What kind and where did you get the bracket for sanden 508 compressor can you show casting number .. can you put the link ?
What kind of engine is that ..6.2 or. 6.5 .
How you install belts? How did you mount the radiator ? Can show the bracket the you built to hold it ... Thank you for all you do for us and taking the time to make this videos..
Hello David, thank you for the support. I will be making a new install video pretty soon. The engine was a 6.2, the bracket was from eBay and it was from the red dot company, I just searched Humvee red dot compressor bracket. I will look and see if I can find one and post the link.

I found it thanks a lot
Great video ! And very nice Humvee 👍
Nice install video! I wondered if anyone would find a good alternative to the Red Dot system (too bulky for my taste, too). Question - Did you finally mount/attach the condenser and fan to the radiator beneath, or did you just leave them sitting there? I've seen Bullet Motorsports do a bracket to attach them, but didn't see any hardware on your video. Just figured I'd ask. Again, great work!
great job!!!
william welch Thanks buddy!
Man that was a great little set did it all come together as a kit ?
CHRISTOPHER ROGERS Thanks! & yes everything came as a kit other than the compressor bracket, I had to find that separate
Man that’s the way to go right there can’t wait to see it all finished and tested!
Hello thank you for the video. We just completed the intstall but need to attach belt. How dido you do this? Did you have to buy a pulley and custom fit a belt?
i didnt see when you put on the belts for the compressure?????
Awesome video! I've got the same kit but I wanted to see someone else doing the project first. Thank you for your video. Now my turn....
Missed the part where you installed the belt. Where and how did you connect the belt? Thanks!
You should have placed the ac unit on its back. Then took it apart to make some custom hoses to go a custom center box air vent and one on each side.
You have the monster 5 KW (200 amp) alternator with plenty of power to run an electric compressor, which could be mounted anywhere. -- Perhaps anchoring the condenser would be good idea? It seems to lay loose on top of the radiator and touching the trans fluid cooler?
Awesome video,
Thank you for making and posting,
Quick question:
How is that vehicle
on Gas?
My cousin was gonna
Help get me one,
Sadly, he passed away
before he was able to
Help me get one.
This is great! Excellent video. Do you have a link or website where you got the A/C kit.
Carlos Gonzalez yup just look up ColdMaster AC on google.
& thanks man!
DakotaXPRO I will thanks! 👍🏼
After a year of use, do you think it's worth it? I'm about to pull the trigger on buying this kit. Let me know.
How many lbs. of r134a does the system hold, and...the total cost peace
Oh wow, first time I've heard of the coldmaster universal AC kit - only ones I heard of were the bulky red dot system and another one by red dot (I think?) that had the condenser unit mounted in the fender of the right or left rear wheel. Love these videos.
edbo10 thanks man! & the reason I went with this system was because the red dot ones were too bulky!
Yeah, I've seen ones on ebay for sale with the usual red dot system and for me they're too bulky and ugly, even on a humvee lol.
Now I just gotta find a decent FM radio. I've always wanted one of those ones you can see in humvees, like the VRC-12 or newer SINCGARS units but I'm not sure if it's possible to listen to your favourite radio stations on those things lol. I know they operate on the FM broadcast band, but whether they actually operate within standard civilian radio ranges I'm not sure about.
Did it work well for the humvee? I have a VW eurovan (Humvee's are way cooler) and am thinking of getting this kit. In FL you need AC!
Could you show video on what wires were used to make radio work
What kit did you actually use? Did it come with compressor bracket? Thanks.
I need help, I have an 86’ humvee and I took the whole A/C unit out because I don’t want to use it. Doing that I need to do an A/C compressor delete. But I can’t find a belt small enough or know if belts transfer from Humvee to Humvee. I couldn’t find a A/C delete bracket pulley to replace the compressor. Any advice?
Hey man! Text me at 4075087321
What do you suggest about the glow plug light not working? I don't want to start replacing if I dont need to. Mine was working fine, now it comes on for a split second if at all. Thanks.
You probably have a burnt out start box. You need to buy the same type color coded sensor and smart start box. Make sure to disconnect battery when installing
Good luck trying to change glow plugs ....hope you got some slack in those lines Incase you got to open the dog house .
mike I yes I left enough slack in the lines to take the unit off the radio tray and set it on the seat. I thought about that ahead of time, I probably should’ve stated that in the vid.
Hi, thanks for the video. I’m in need of the bracket, and I don’t know how to find it. Can you please post a link? Thank you!
Arthur Janbazyan hello, just past this into your search. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F191908670640
Dakota Wood thank you! Sorry, I just saw this.
So when you painted this why didnt you do it in the garage that way your not risking anything getting on the wet paint? Just curious
Nice job! Where did you buy the compressor bracket? Do they sell it separately? Or, comes with the entire system?
Damn, sounds like I need a custom bracket.
Dope Af
Dakota, im getting ready to install the same unit in my rig.How did you mount the condenser to the radiator?
REID R. I made mounts that attach where the power steering cooler bolts attach. I can send you pictures if you would like.
That would be great, I'm kind of at a loss. I appreciate it@@DakotaWoodHD
Text me at 4075087321 and I’ll get some pics to you
@@DakotaWoodHD I'll do it right now. Thanks again
@@DakotaWoodHD i was wondering if you could give me the A/C belt part number
What bracket did you used for the compressor, great video
Need help finding the compressor bracket and also how you hooked in the V-belt. I have the same kit.
Hello, this kit comes with everything you will need and instructions. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F191908670640
What was the belt part number?
Hey man I'm thinking to buy and install this unit. Is it worth it? How's it working still?
Now that you have had it a while how does it keep up at keeping the interior cool?
Any links to these products?
Do you happen to remember which number kit you got?
Did I miss it, or is the condenser just resting on top of the radiator? You did secure it so it doesn't destroy your radiator? Many of the engine failure reports I've read about have one common cause...over heating. The hmmve cooling system isnt designed very well...and now your blocking the radiator with your A/C condenser.....are you planning on adding additional cooling kit for the.engin? Otherwise it's either the number 7 or 8 cylinder is going to be history before too long. Maybe that's why the military has their a/c units mounted to the roof.
JBT I did make a bracket to hold it off the radiator off camera
The reason why the radiator is mounted the way it is mounted is because if a HMMWV crashes it doesn’t take damage or so that when things build up on the front of the grill like mud it doesn’t get blocked off. The fam mounted on top of the AC radiator will help the stock radiator from having any issues. HMMWV don’t normally have any over heating issues. I mean we use them in dusty extremely hot places like the Middle East for a reason...
So, the condensor fan is blowing? I mean, its not sucking?
That's exactly what I was wondering.
Is it waterproof
Wolf Man yes it it waterproof. When you are wiring in the system, make sure you heat shrink everything and use waterproof connectors too
cou can buy - OEM- origin military-electric wire connections as you can easy see f.i. on electric wires
on lights...
How long did it take you to install it?
how do you like the coldmaster kit?
What kind of crimped is that and where did you get it?
Are they expensive to maintain?
where did you get the compressor bracket?
REID R. I found it on eBay, I will add the link in the description.
@@DakotaWoodHD wow... best video and super detailed!! I can't find the link for the bracket.. can you help?
How did you mount you evaporator
Put on some ironman 4x4 foam cell pro suspension in it
Should of mounted it under the radio bracket
Noticed you never showed how you attached the condenser to the radiator, if you left it just lying on top, it could take a serious beating.
rwhunt99 I did make a bracket to hold it just off the radiator
-congratulation - i had had no enough patience to do this job - for my blazer M1009
Didn't even show the reaction to it blowing cool air with you guys closed up in the cabin
Hey brother you have Instagram by any chance?
