When my marriage broke down after 34 years, I went to Bali. I lived for months doing visa runs, and I was healed by being looked after with kindness, I lived in a small room, did Yoga, and was happier than I had been for a long time. A simple life in Bali, far exceeds a lonely life in Australia. Retirement is a no brainer, we don't all have millions in super, and have a large house with all our children and grandchildren around. Well done Alan, do what makes you comfortable, feel safe, loved, and with Muzza as your friend, it will never be boring! Be in Sanur mid Jan, love to buy you a beer. XXx

Hello from CA. Right on! Same with me during different events in my life. Studied Balinese dance in younger days and traveled to outer islands, Timor & learned basic Bahasa Indonesia. Indonesia is a very family-oriented, group culture vs the US which is very hyper-individualic & isolated & segregated in old age without resources. Living in the US cannot be cured with self-help courses. Simple life with kindness is all we need!

Rentals in Western Australia start at $650 per week starting why would you not go to Bali when Australia is so expensive to live in , personally I think you are in the right place I would consider moving their if I can’t afford to live on my pension when my pets have passed ❤

I used to get offended when people knocked Bali, but then years later I felt happy as those people will help to restrict the tourists and crowds coming to Bali.
I used to hear bad things about Bali years ago, and when I reluctantly went there for a short holiday, I loved it! Been there 14 times now. 😊

Hi Muzza & Vie. My daughter and her husband have just returned from a week in Sanur, (both have been to Bali before). They have returned to Australia with a different perspective of life. The simplicity of life, the calmness of the people and the respect young Balinese people display has made them determined to bring their 3 children (blended family) to Bali to experience a different way of life. I wish people would not judge what they have never experienced. Have a great day guys.

What an absolute legend you are Alan. You are a gem of a bloke who clearly loves a beer and a durry and a yarn.
And when you speak about your service in your words “I didn’t do much just went where they told me”.
I’m glad you have been able to retire somewhere as awesome as Bali even though it hasn’t been an entirely smooth ride but you have prevailed.
Young aussies have so much to learn from our older generation, they just have to lift the heads up from their phones for 5 minutes. But these days we are all guilty of that.
Good onya Alan hopefully when we are there in December we might be able to have a beer or 6 and a durry and a yarn.

The housing crisis here in Australia is severe, but I would hope that we would look after people in need better than this. On the other hand what a great life Alan has now. Brilliant as usual from Muzza and Al. Appreciate even more "as it is" information from people actually doing it in a move to Bali. Im not too far from being able to make the decision myself and it does look like its not something that anyone should just jump into. Im seriously considering a trip over to check it out. Ive been "Up Top" with RAN on numerous occasions and have always loved the friendly locals. Have only been to the Phillipines as a civvy and was blown away by how locals are very much the same as they were in Indonesia, as in very friendly. Always remember the song, Bahasa Indonesia is the language that we speak, Satu Dua Tiga, thats one two three. This stuck probably because it was kids that taught me. Either way, keep on the good updates on youtube and yanevano, i might end up heading over there for a visit. Cheers. PS, if we do catchup, happy to shout a couple of boxes of bintang to keep the convos rolling. :)

Alan has said he gets a TPI pension and that is not subject to the Australian Aged Pension (AAP) threshold, which means he could also be able to in addition to get the AAP plus a gold cad. My father who was at Galoppli in WW1 got the same deal. It is quite generous. I won't tell you what he got but he was entitled to get twice or more of the AAP. Perhaps about $6000 per month. Similar to what my mother got. My mother as a war widow was given a loan to buy or build a house as well to be repaid over 40 years at a 2.4% interest reduction.

I haven't seen the criticism of Allan, but I can see from thia video people continue to be ignorant and opinionated, and then want to share those opinions as if they have any relevence to anyone else living their own life. Ignore them, live a life less lived, and take the path that appeals to you. You live only once, but that doesn't mean only one life. The world would be a better place if more people lived their lives with the motto I live my life too, When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams - this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness - and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!

How do you go if you have medical problems like diabetes and need insulin it’s only $5.70 here if on pension how would prices compare

User pays. Diabetes meds about $2000 a year. Indonesia is not the place to be if you have health issues and care about them.

No he can't but he does have the bpjs (local insurance) here in Bali and it's only a couple of hundred dollars to head back home.if he needs anything. He can arrange local medical assistance through vet affairs

At around 11 minutes, Alan appears to be well-used in keeping personal experiences to himself but is hiding information. Alan is coping the best way he can. One tough bugger.
My WW1 Anzac Cove Grandfather only gave code to my father, and decades later Dad, pre-internet - was able to work out what his father had been through.
