    04:04 Method #2: Recover RAW partition
    04:42 Method #3: Format your RAW hard drive
    06:15 Conclusions
    In today's topic, I'm going to be giving you some different solutions that you can use to recover data from a RAW hard drive or recover files from a RAW partition on your Windows computer.
    Before you do anything, you should stop using the drive and refrain from using it as much as possible to avoid further corruption and overriding of the files on the drive.
    So that'll just give you the best chance of recovering as much stuff as possible. So that's a quick tip for you right there. Yeah. I would highly advise that you watch this tutorial all the way through, at least watch this first method before you give anything else a chance and that'll again, be the safest for your drive overall.
    Method #1
    Let's just jump right into the first method of recovery here, which is going to be using file recovery software to pull the data off the drive, even though it's raw now, while technically the fastest way to gain access to your drive and to actually make it usable again is to format the drive. We don't recommend this because it comes with the obvious drawback of erasing your data. So the software we're going to be using today is called Disk Drill. And it's one of the best in the industry, comes standard with all the tools you need to not just recover your files, but backup and further protect them as well.
    Steps to recover data from a RAW drive:
    1. Download, install, and launch Disk Drill for Windows.
    2. Select the RAW storage device on which the deleted files were stored and click "Search for lost data".
    3. Use the file format filters on the left to narrow down the scan results until you find the file you’re looking for. Select it to see its preview on the right.
    4. Click the checkbox next to the file and click the blue Recover button at the bottom.
    5. Specify the recovery folder and click OK.
    www.cleverfiles.com/howto/raw...
    Method #2
    Well, there are a few things that you can try. And the next thing I would try is actually another piece of software called Test Disk. This is free open-source software that while it is simple, shows a lot of promise in this area, specifically inside the software, you have the ability to scan a drive and correct corrupted blocks rebuild a boot sector, and even undelete files. It also allows you to recover data from a RAW drive or perform RAW partition recovery. I have made a video about it before I've also written about it.
    How to recover data from a RAW partition:
    www.cleverfiles.com/howto/raw...
    www.cleverfiles.com/howto/tes...
    Method #3
    Okay. Now, if all else fails, you still can't get the stubborn thing to return and you can't get your files off, then it's time to look at formatting. This method is suitable both for recovering data from an internal drive and for recovering files from a raw external hard drive. So you've probably heard of formatting before, and yes, it's true. It completely resets the drive and thus deletes all of the data on it, restoring it to its factory state. Essentially. However, one important distinction that I want to make is that when you format a drive, you have the option to select a quick format. And what that means is that it's still going to reset the drive and reset the file system and delete everything. But the data is technically still there. So you would still be able to run, say a data recovery software scan on it and potentially recover things even after formatting.
    To format your RAW hard drive:
    1. Open file Explorer, and then right, click on your drive
    2. Hit format than in the window that comes up, leave all the options as default, except change the file system to exFAT,
    3. Make sure you enable the quick format option.
    4. Click on start and that'll format the drive.
    5. Once you're finished with the format, I highly recommend that you go back to the first method and scan the drive with Disk Drill data recovery software. And that should give you a decent shot at actually pulling data off the drive.

    Hi there, I like your guides. I have an external drive that became unresponsive a few months ago. Do you think your program can help me recover files from a raw external hard drive?

    • @cleverfiles
      @cleverfiles  2 года назад +1

      It depends. If your drive is detected by the system (you can see it in Device Manager/Disk Utility) chances are that Disk Drill can help. Otherwise, it must be a hardware problem and you'd need to take it to a local Data Recovery Center.

    Pretty ironic. I’m using this very software on my RAWA drive and it stopped detecting the drive, so I’m going to have to do a quick format. Would this software be able to retrieve data after a quick format?

    Using CHKDSK H: /F /R through the command processor is a better option. Before it was only RAW, but now after two runs it already reports the structure, how many files and folders there are, and how much free and occupied space there is. After another run of CHKDSK maybe I'll be able to read the files like it was before and not just read only specific file types.

    • @alfiecollumbell9740
      @alfiecollumbell9740 Год назад +8

      The type of the file system is RAW.
      CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.
      My drive is raw why am i getting this

    • @batvanio
      @batvanio Год назад +3

      @@alfiecollumbell9740 This applies if it is already RAW. In my case it was for the SSD (Intel 530 - 120Gb). A possible reason is that with them, if they are not used for a while, the data is deleted by itself. Somewhere there was information at what and what recording temperatures, how long the recording will remain when the power is turned off. With hard drives, you can keep them turned off for years without losing data, but not with SSDs. I have a hard drive over 10 years old that is still recognized without problems if I don't count some bad sectors because of which I had changed it.

    • @band1tt
      @band1tt Год назад +2

      My hard drive just failed, start making some noise and then my pc refused to start up, it wanted to chkdsk for 144 days. Not my C: drive, just a backup drive. I connected it via a usb docking and tried the CHKDSK H: /F /R in administrator mode and only got that chdks doesnt work with RAW drives

    • @batvanio
      @batvanio Год назад

      @@band1tt I have missed something very important. The test was with my old SSD, not a hard drive. I have never received a RAW on a hard drive. (I've changed about 10 so far in approximately 30 years) The only hard drives where I have lost information are my first one from our first computer picked up used 30-odd years ago (20 Mbyte) and another one, but the problem was actually in the Windows itself which has a very buggy structure. There if there are failures and it is formatted all the failure information is lost and Windows still tries to write to the failed locations. This NFTS structure is big garbage. FAT is much more reliable because it keeps the information for each cluster of the disk including the damaged sections. My longest running drive has worked for about 8yrs without a break and I replaced it simply because it is at times slower, but never has and now doesn't have even one bad sector. Still after a 24 in a day job approx 8yrs its working and not someone expensive but even the opposite. In fact it was one of the cheapest possible he had. Toshiba is Toshiba. Too bad they are no longer available at least in my country.
