Pretty ironic. I’m using this very software on my RAWA drive and it stopped detecting the drive, so I’m going to have to do a quick format. Would this software be able to retrieve data after a quick format?
Hi there, I like your guides. I have an external drive that became unresponsive a few months ago. Do you think your program can help me recover files from a raw external hard drive?
It depends. If your drive is detected by the system (you can see it in Device Manager/Disk Utility) chances are that Disk Drill can help. Otherwise, it must be a hardware problem and you'd need to take it to a local Data Recovery Center.
I was in the process of getting my files back after losing everything and I was hopeful. I came from work to notice that the electricity went out and everything is now not working.
Thanks Andrew - running disk drill now on y RAW drive, but question: When I look at the drive in disk manager it shows it has recovery partitions - how do we use these to recover the drive?
If the drive is RAW, the file system may be corrupted, and the recovery partition might not work. Continue using Disk Drill to recover your data, and use file system repair tool like CHKDSK to potentially fix the drive. If these methods fail, consider reaching out to the drive's manufacturer for specific recovery instructions. Always back up recovered data to a safe location.
Other ways didn't work so I have to use Disk Drill. I have around 30GB in size and I need to have it done right now! Couldn't you guys at least give us a month trial?
Using CHKDSK H: /F /R through the command processor is a better option. Before it was only RAW, but now after two runs it already reports the structure, how many files and folders there are, and how much free and occupied space there is. After another run of CHKDSK maybe I'll be able to read the files like it was before and not just read only specific file types.
@@alfiecollumbell9740 This applies if it is already RAW. In my case it was for the SSD (Intel 530 - 120Gb). A possible reason is that with them, if they are not used for a while, the data is deleted by itself. Somewhere there was information at what and what recording temperatures, how long the recording will remain when the power is turned off. With hard drives, you can keep them turned off for years without losing data, but not with SSDs. I have a hard drive over 10 years old that is still recognized without problems if I don't count some bad sectors because of which I had changed it.
My hard drive just failed, start making some noise and then my pc refused to start up, it wanted to chkdsk for 144 days. Not my C: drive, just a backup drive. I connected it via a usb docking and tried the CHKDSK H: /F /R in administrator mode and only got that chdks doesnt work with RAW drives
@@band1tt I have missed something very important. The test was with my old SSD, not a hard drive. I have never received a RAW on a hard drive. (I've changed about 10 so far in approximately 30 years) The only hard drives where I have lost information are my first one from our first computer picked up used 30-odd years ago (20 Mbyte) and another one, but the problem was actually in the Windows itself which has a very buggy structure. There if there are failures and it is formatted all the failure information is lost and Windows still tries to write to the failed locations. This NFTS structure is big garbage. FAT is much more reliable because it keeps the information for each cluster of the disk including the damaged sections. My longest running drive has worked for about 8yrs without a break and I replaced it simply because it is at times slower, but never has and now doesn't have even one bad sector. Still after a 24 in a day job approx 8yrs its working and not someone expensive but even the opposite. In fact it was one of the cheapest possible he had. Toshiba is Toshiba. I tried this software and was informed that no data was recovered. This was even though my directory utility software could read the drive in question. Although, after a reboot, the OS couldn't see the drive. I'm at my wits end.
I accidentally deleted the partition drive using the clean command of the command prompt. It has very important data, and I want to recover the drive partition along with the data it has. can you please help me with this ?
I have a drive with 23 partitions in raw with write protection how would I go about getting the files can the drive be converted from raw to ntsf the drive can be seen in windows
Ensure the drive is properly connected and save recovered data to a different storage device. Once the data is backed up, you can convert the RAW partitions to NTFS using Disk Management or Command Prompt in Windows. Write protection must be disabled, either physically or via software, to format the drive. I also recommend scanning the drive with Disk Drill to see what files can be recovered from it.
We offer a free recovery of up to 500 MB of your data if you use Disk Drill for Windows. Unfortunately, this option is not available for Mac users at this time. Tried all of the free software, does not even show up in most of them. Sometimes just the first partition of the drive, but not he primary. Cannot covert this to NTFS.
I attach my sata drive via a docking bay. It pops up in windows but it's not accessible. Windows drive manager show it as a raw disk but Disk Drill doesn't detect the drive

Tried method 3 today, lost data. I'm only getting 5 files as opposed to when it was in RAW when I at least got some 159GB of data. Should I just wait for the scan to complete?
