Dude this is SO FLIPPIN' cool! Thakns so much for sharing this incredible adventure. I'm going to Japan in a couple years and so stoked to visit some of these places!
Do it man you wont be disappointed, I went back in January and tickets were very cheap $580 round trip on Delta. Hotels were also very affordable Richmond suidobashi was $60/night and ones in osaka and kyoto were even cheaper. Can absolutely do it on a budget if you play your cards right.
@@b00tybu77chks that was really the main reason me and my friends went. We were discussing it for years and when we saw the tickets we just booked it and made it happen. The Kyoto video was very good and made me some nostalgic feeling as I was living around the area when I was young. Thank you so much… Anyway the caption about the town on the way from Kyoto to Osaka, it said “Ibaraki Prefecture” but it was actually “Ibaragi City” that is a town in Osaka prefecture. It's so awesome that I had your original video saved and we're finally going to Japan 4 years later! Both Tokyo and Kyoto. Thanks for sharing these recs. So excited to check some of these spots out!
Jason, so happy to watch this. I was in Kyoto back in May for our honeymoon, and I snuck off a few times while my wife relaxed at the hotel, and I found both of these stores you visited. I loved Japan, I was there maybe 6 years ago. My wife went there for 5 days for work so the kids and I went too. It was awesome walking around town and going to the mall. Then they all came down with a 104 fever, including my 1 year old. So most of the trip was spent with me, the only not sick one, taking care of the rest of the family :/ Definitely need to go back.

Love your Japan series. Visiting and game hunting would be a dream, but the language barrier is intimidating for me. Obviously having someone bilingual sherpa you through the environment would solve this problem, but how much of an issue do you think it would be for your average American?
If all you were doing was going to the well-known tourist areas like Akihabara in Tokyo or Den Den Town in Osaka then you'll be fine, since the staff in the shops in those areas (Super Potato, Surugaya, etc.) are used to dealing with tons of foreign tourists. One infront of Sanjo Station, and one inside this department store. Highly recommend the Sanjo Station BookOff if you are interested in retro game pickups. There's also an retro arcade nearby called A-cho that has a bunch of CPS and Neo Geo fighting games, as well as a bunch of SHMUP games, three different variations of Tetris, and a Typing of the Dead cabinet.
