I truly agree !. He´s also very easy to understand for a non-native english speaker since he speaks clearly, never chooses "advanced" linguistic ways, and always deliver excellent sound quality. Then there are of course many different sub topics within the subject of gaming. Personally, i´m not a fan of the really hardcore japanese stuff (i actually own a NDS myself though, but i really don´t like it much. All things called "Pokemon" is TERRIBLE !. Not to mention 3D games on the GBA. It´s a bad joke !. ""-What is that ?. Pesto ?"". ""-No, it´s "Call of duty Heroes of the mess" on GBA !"". Boxed PC games are pretty boring too (with all of its settings, floppies, commands and shit). Everything that starts with "Xbox"/most of the "Playstation" and "GC/Wii" stuff is always fun and interesting to hear at !. Various gaming accessories, and also the (serious !) mini retro consoles too. Then i also grew up with "Atari 2600", and just like "Metal Jesus", my most played game was "H.E.R.O." with it. -And i made all the 20 levels, several times, too !. Intellivision, Colecovision, Vectrex, Vic 64, Atari 800 and somewhat Odyssey 2 ("Philips Videopac" in Europe), also has special places in my old 80´s kid heart.
I had never heard of Neseblod Records before this, but I instantly recognized the basement with "black metal" spray-painted on the wall. That would formerly have been Helvete, which was owned by Euronymous of Mayhem. Definitely a worthy place for a black metal museum.
I love your videos like this. You do such a great job of showcasing the area and not just focusing on the areas gaming shops and things like that. Neseblød (nosebleed records) burnt down earlier this year, my friend lives in the building and helped raise the alarm before it got too bad. I'm so happy they managed to fix it up again - thanks for giving them some love.
The pink building when you pan around from the opera house (time 5:42) is where Funcom had their office early on. I used to sit in the glass area at the bottom on the second floor and worked on several SEGA Megadrive games including Daze Before Christmas, Pocahontas, NBA Hangtime and more. Unfortunately there was a massive barn in the way so I had no view of the water and a freeway cut off the building from the rest of the city so it was much more isolated than it appears today!

I'm at this retro show in Sandefjord Norway every year. This year i also were at the Chris Huelsbeck panel there, and also got physical games signed by him. I met game music legends Ben Daglish (R.I.P), Rob Hubbard, Matt Gray, David Wise etc. there and also probably 10 people from Rare that worked on Goldeneye N64 etc. There is another famous metal music store in Oslo only a 5 minute walk from Neseblod, called Katakomben. There is also a government owned Black Metal musem in Oslo at the National museum.
I know I'm so far behind on videos from the initial release date of them. This trip looks incredible, from the game stores, to the expo, to the breath taking scenery. Man, I wanted to try making a Global game hunting show like 11 years ago back in college, that mixes game hunting and a travel show. I'm glad someone finally did it.
To quote your Patreon post: "BEHIND THE SCENES: Norway, land of fjords, skiing, and… black metal. Yep, the same country known for producing Nobel Peace Prize winners and picture-perfect nature scenes also gave birth to a music genre that sounds like a Viking raid set to guitar riffs. You have to admire the contrast: one moment Norwegians are peacefully cross-country skiing through tranquil forests, and the next, they're donning corpse paint and summoning the forces of darkness through a double bass drum beat. It’s as if someone looked at all that beautiful, calm Norwegian scenery and said, 'You know what this needs? Screaming.' *Norway’s contribution to black metal is legendary-so much so that the music feels like an extension of the country’s winter: long, dark, and cold.* The genre’s pioneers went beyond music, dabbling in church burning and spiky leather accessories, turning a typical Wednesday into a metal apocalypse. And while the rest of the world may associate Norway with reindeer and serenity, the black metal scene has given it a reputation for being a place where a peaceful hike can just as easily end with a DIY music video in a snow-covered graveyard." That was a very poetic way to look at things, particularly the highlighted phrase.
I really love these videos MJR. The gaming is why I follow your channel but the traveling and exploring places, like in this video, is really enjoyable. Thanks for doing a great job on these!
Amazing isn't it! I live in Brennåsen. Just popped back to Blighty for my cousin's wedding...but NEXT weekend, MUST pop up to Mjåvann! Not watched video yet...just been playing Mario Odyssey and then a bit of DOOM 2, with the amazing new sound track, fantastically metal...and finally KoF 13 on the flight.
We need to have a UK retro expo big enough to warrant an MJR visit. Not been to Retrospillmessen but from what i've seen on youtube it looks a lot bigger than anything we have in the UK. Odd that there isn't an equivalent over here, seems to be a lot of smaller expos and bigger gaming markets but nothing that does it all.
Neseblod is a museum itself. Here they all used to hang out; Satyr, Frost, Necrobutcher, Hellhammer and many more. The store name used to be Helvete and was owned by Euronymous. He was killed by Count Grishnackh in August1993. Neseblod is a great store and a "must visit" if you're a metallhead.
Ah, I miss how Neo Tokyo used to be. They used to have a reasonably substantial retro gaming section, where I got me some really fun objects. I do occasionally buy snacks from them though!
Yeah, it has become far less interesting. I do miss Spiderman, with all their retro-games. These days I visit Adamstuen Retro if I'm after older games, even though they are a tad expensive.
As an American living in Sweden for nearly 11yrs now, it's nice seeing you enjoy your time in Northern Europe. You can imagine that things can get a bit old hat once you get used to the rhythm of a new life abroad, so it's pretty cool watching a fellow Yank experience things like this for the first time. We don't have as big a retro scene here in Göteborg as they seem to in Oslo or even Stockholm but fortunately we do have some nice conventions annually. Tomorrow we're gonna visit a local Con called Games & Geeks. Think this video inspired me to shoot some footage to share later on. Very excited for tomorrow! ❤
@@reinygreen9521Yes, I buy from their online store all the time. They're a bit overpriced though. In gbg I usually go sagobjörnen... Since it's the only game shop left in town and he has fair prices. Sadly, there's not much of a scene left over here. Game shut it's doors as did Game Stop, Kaptenkrok is gone, there was a pretty big retro store on Drottninggatan (I think) that also closed down. So all that's left is the ol' fella sagobjörnen and the hope of 'winning the lottery' and going to a secondhand shop and finding ps2 or earlier games that aren't going for ebay prices. Last weekend I went to a loppis and by some miracle there was a guy selling a few nes games.... At 250kr each 😭. I picked up Gremlins 2 and Robowarrior since I didn't already have them in my collection but damn it stung to pay that much when 10 years a go you could still find some gems for 50kr and below. Damn, you was in my city, Oslo. Welcome :-). Me and my wife take our daughter to the Zoo in Kristiansand some times. Next time, we are also deffiantly going to visit this shop. Need more PS2 games. Great video!
@@haakonchristensen2880
Nice one dude 😃
We have a huge selection of ps2 games! It would be great to meet and show you Grizzly Games 🐻
Doesn’t get any better on RUclips than a Metal Jesus travel video! What a way to start the weekend.
It’s my type of cozy videos.
He does such a great job!
The best!
That hotel buffet is legendary!
My wife and I enjoyed your first part of your Norway trip, we cant wait to look at part 2 mate, horns up :-)
I'm at this retro show in Sandefjord Norway every year.
This is just a breathtaking trip. I'm sure I will never get to experience this for myself, so I want to express my thanks and gratitude to this channel for allowing me to go and see so many incredible things through you. Never anything short of superb content from the channel, and it always brings a smile to my face to see a notification of a new video - even if sometimes it does take me a bit to get to watching it due to life. You are truly a gift to the gaming community, never change, and I'm pumped to check out Pt. 2.
Wow! Insane to see you where in my hometown, Kristiansand! And I also didnt know there was such a cool retro store here... so thanx for the info! It had to be Metal Jesus who came all the way from the US to let me know there was a retro store here!! haha. tnx. And cool to see you met Petter! I also know him. Nice guy!
@@hallgeirhansen9124 As my father always used to say " If you are going to do it, do it properly" 😅
I hope you enjoyed the video and I look forward to you visiting the store buddy 👊
Man, I wanted to try making a Global game hunting show like 11 years ago back in college, that mixes game hunting and a travel show. I'm glad someone finally did it.
Cool! fan from Norway been watching u for years hope u found Norway trip fun❤
Welcome to my home country Metal Man. Glad to see you totally enjoying yourself. Hope you have a blast. ❤

Scratch another country visited off the list.
That whole area, Norway, Sweden, Finland, so much good metal came from there!
Yep. Next year I'd love to visit the UK if possible.
@@MetalJesusRocks Hell yes!
Greetings from Norway! Hope you enjoyed your stay!
Your country is gorgeous!
We had a great time in Norway. Thanks so much!
I absolutely loved this video. I cannot wait for part 2
Yay! Thank you!
To quote your Patreon post:
"BEHIND THE SCENES: Norway, land of fjords, skiing, and… black metal. Screaming.'
*Norway’s contribution to black metal is legendary-so much so that the music feels like an extension of the country’s winter: long, dark, and cold.* The genre’s pioneers went beyond music, dabbling in church burning and spiky leather accessories, turning a typical Wednesday into a metal apocalypse. And while the rest of the world may associate Norway with reindeer and serenity, the black metal scene has given it a reputation for being a place where a peaceful hike can just as easily end with a DIY music video in a snow-covered graveyard."
That was a very poetic way to look at things, particularly the highlighted phrase.
I really love these videos MJR. The gaming is why I follow your channel but the traveling and exploring places, like in this video, is really enjoyable. Thanks for doing a great job on these!
Wait, wait, wait, you were in Kristiansand as well? MY TOWN!? AND you found a cool retro-place I didn't even know about? WHAT!!??? 😳🤯🤪😅😜👍🏻
Dude...we LOVED Kristiansand so much. What a great town you have.
Its my uncles shop!
@@SunnyyyySunwe must be cousins?
@@NothingButDanks is he your uncle? The one that metalJesusRocks visited in Kristiansand?
Wow views are amazing! Thanks for taking us with you along for the trip! Looking forward to part 2!!!!
Pretty rad to see the unreleased Sega Genesis game. I love stuff like that. Awesome episode 🎉
Next year, I need to come to the UK!
@@MetalJesusRocks Let’s go 💯
We need to have a UK retro expo big enough to warrant an MJR visit.
Living the dream! Love these travel / game hunt videos. Why stop with one passion? Can’t wait for part 2 🤜🏻🤛🏻
You need to visit Spel och Sånt in Norrtalje!
Such is the life of a retro gamer these days.
@@reinygreen9521 The guy lives in GOTHENBURG !. It would cost him around 2000 crowns in gas spendings and around 15 hours to go to Norrtälje and back...And for what ?. A new Amiboo Super mario figurine and 10 % discounted Switch games ?....
The swedish scene is bigger than the norwegian one.
@@MetalHeartsOfSteel go on.
Norway looks amazing! Love the freaking black metal museum. The Mayhem story is so freaking crazy lol
From Norway here 😀
I love your traveling/game hunting bundle videos!
23:44 That’s too funny. 18 years ago, I survived in Norway on “Super Big Bite” 7-11 hot dogs for two months because they were cheap.
Kristiansand, my home town! So awesome to see all the familiar places I walk by every day! And it was a blast meeting you and talking to you on the Retro messe! 🤟🏻
The shop guy from Kristiansand had a good English pronunciation. A little broken, but grammatically almost UK native perfect!
That black metal shop was the highlight for me, hope to visit one day (that place was such a wild scene in the 90s!)
Must be lovely to experience a no-tipping culture! 😁 👍 I agree LAX is chaotic, but I'm glad you guys made the trip. Our chocolate is insane, I've been saying it myself, I can't keep Freia chocolate in the house at all because I lose control 😂 👍! Kristiansand looked super cute, I've never been there!

I missed the English Chocolate then after I went back to the UK after a long time and tried it again, I had to accept I now much prefer Norwegian Chocolate 😅
We would love to have you visit Kristiansand! We now have the Spillmesse convention in October, my spillbutikk and the pinball club, so there is a few cool things for you to do here ✌️
Norway is on my list of places to go visit eventually considering my dad's family came from there. Looks like a great place to see!

Dude! Are you seriously in Norway? I live here! You are even visiting where I was born! I was born in Kristiansand but live now in Oslo. To make a long story short, I grew up in Minnesota and got my schooling there in the 1980s but came back to Oslo in 1995 and have stayed here since. I'm going to watch your video now. Just seeing the title I had to write this before watching it to let you know that if you ever come back, hit me up. I will be your free tour guide. This is just so cool! Metal Jesus in my country. Man I would have loved to have met you and did some gaming together! That would've been epic! Well, if you're still in Norway, enjoy the rest of your stay in one of, if not the most beautiful country in the world!
That breakfast was nuts! Just goes to show the difference between the US and other countries. So many fresh foods and veggies instead of all the junk food we eat!! Can't wait for part 2!
The Norwegian hotel breakfast game is strong, with fierce competition between the chains, but even with that in mind the spread featured here was above and beyond 🤤
11:08 Fart lol

We have that statue in The Netherlands as well in Rotterdam. We call it Kabouter buttplug.

Great video, and I can't wait for part 2! I kind of laughed at the hotel breakfast part, because I had a similar experience & reaction when I spent three weeks in Finland. Every hotel had amazing breakfast options, with so much to choose from. American hotels need to take some notes!
