  • In todays video I do some R&D on a new Fan Dipole antenna, Tuning, getting the wires seperated and try to make a few contacts to test it out.

    Great work Chuck 👍

Nice project. The spacers are a problem with deployment for sure. I don’t use any, and I guy off each of my di-poles individually and don’t have to worry about twisting and it is very easy to set up too. I cut and tuned wires for 40M, 20M and 10M. Stringing up 40 M on a 18 foot pole, and tying off the ends with cordage at about 8 feet above the ground on each end. Then do the same for 20 M letting it hang below 40, repeat for 10 letting it hang below 20. I also have 40 M 25 degrees offset from the 20 and 10 M dipoles, it is just NOT critical that they be in the same horizontal plane. Using my FT 710 I work all the advanced portions of 40, 20, and 1.5mhz of 10 without the internal tuner. Bonus bands, 15 M with the internal tuner, and hold on, 6M with the internal tuner from 50.1 to 53.1 mhz, yeah this antenna rocks. Take your time tuning each dipole starting at 40 m working to 10 m, and you will be rewarded. I tuned with only a vswr meter. 73 and good DX. N9XDS.

A fan dipole is absolutely one of the best antennas out there. No tuner required and when fed with the right coax can handle high power.

Thanks for the video Chuck. Looks like when it’s available I will have another antenna to build. I have the others and love them. Looking forward to this one!

Looks like something for the wish list! I was going to make a fan dipole when I first started in 2020 but I got a dipole from an Elmer. I came here from CaHR

Hard to beat a fan. I really need one for 30,17 and 6m

Jay you caould build it for those bands and it actually tuned up on 6m the way it was.

I can hang a fan dipole like that but the legs would be at a 90 to each other instead of being in the same plane. The pole is at a fence corner and I have a 100 feet in each direction. Would that right angle affect the radiation pattern adversely. I can't find any literature on this. Hope you know. 73 KN6ZVI

how do you make the coax attachment? I did see the so239 fitting adapter but how to the wires attach? thanks!

I want a fan dipole for home but want it to do 40-10m.
    Any progress on this Chuck?
I already have your end fed that I still need to build... when I get a HF radio, maybe at Dayton or shortly after. :)

Chuck, I'm doing a monoband dipole antenna for 15m same way with parts from Mercury antenna . Where did you get info on the balun at the top? is it just coax wrapped around a toroid? any detail would be great. thx! oh nevermind, this would be the same 1:1 transformer as with the Mercury instructions right?

Chuck, what was the orientation? Which way was your fan pointed?
