I'm currently running a linear loaded EFHW tuned for 80M. Using a 93ft length of speaker wire (instead of 131ft), shorted one end, connected one strand to a 49:1 balun, and tuned by trimming the other strand. Pairing it to my G90, I've made some great contacts with Europe from my farm in Kentucky.

I built a linear loaded dipole using #12 wire and pieces of PVC pipe as spacers. I set mine up as a doublet, feeding it with twinlead and a balun into an autotuner. Haven't been active recently, but hope to be on the air more soon. One thing I did notice is this antenna is quieter than in endfed.

Linear Loading an antenna is something that I have never even thought about in nearly 50 years of hamming. How did that get past me. Thank you for the great introduction and explanation. 73, K1QS

I have a linearly loaded 2 element beams for 10 and 20 in my attic along the side A frame braces. Had to make the length on 20m 21 feet long. Added advantage being angled like an Inverted V, it was multi directional.
Shame you cannot rotate it! But good isea.
any rough dimensions of one for 80m doublet?
I'm wondering how well linear loading would work for a G5RV system. Seems like it would do nicely for the dipole elements, but would it? And how would that affect the length of matching 450 Ohm section?
It will work and the matching line will be the same. However, the overall length of wire element needs to be increased to compensate for the fold back.

Yes it works with many wire antenna types.

It is a pity that the UK is no longer member of the EU. Ham stuff is more expensive due to import tax.
