about the ferries wheel....the park stops operating the wheel whenever the wind reaches certain level for safty.... about the girl, she was asking if you are a russian. (harbin isnt too far from russian siberia. many russians visit harbin during holidays. that's probably why she asked).
Let me translate for you 15:14 he said " you're welcome " 16:24 The little girl said " Foreign guest" I can say, almost 99% of Chinese are friendly people. China is not a threat to the world, and on the contrary, China is very kind to all other countries. Danke !!!
What you say is so true the Americans are worried that their people may see a different life style not the dog eat dog style they are forced to accept.
If you're in Harbin, don't miss the opportunity to explore the hauntingly fascinating Ruins of the Japanese Army Unit 731 Headquarters and delve into the gripping stories at the Unit 731 Museum. These remarkable sites, nestled on Xingjian Street in Pingfang District of Harbin, promise to leave an indelible mark on your soul. Let's share the rich tapestry of history with the world, learning from past and paving the way for a harmonious and peaceful future. The best part is that admission to the museum is free, and you can also rent a translator device at no cost. This ensures that language barriers won't hinder your exploration and understanding of the exhibits.
Yes! Westerners should come to learn the Asian part of World War Two which they were not taught in Western schools! China was a big battle field during World War Two, which was severely invaded by the Japanese fascist empire until 1945!
Even though it's winter now and it's -20 degrees in Harbin, but if you travel a few thousands kilometers south to Hainan or Sanya (Hawaii of China), it's plus 20 degrees. So China is huge and the temperature can range from -20 to + 20 depending on the longitude. Also, the country has a very diverse landscape, from desert dunes, rolling hills, gigantic mountains, snow & ice, forest, jungles, oceans, plains, concrete jungle, etc. I hope you get to visit other places too. You should check out Dadong (near North Korean border). Or Yanji in Yanbian Chaoxian Prefecture in Jilin. It's full of Chaoxian (Joseon or ethnic Korean) people - it's nearby anyways in northeast China. Go to Ordos or Hohot in Inner Mongolia during summer. There's also Kashgar, Urumqi, Turpan, Aksu in Xinjiang that have the Central Asian / Middle East vibe. Since you're in Harbin, you should've already seen some Russian architecture like the St. Sophia cathedral with the onion domes. If you go Southwest to Yunan, there's a beautiful town called Lijiang. Also visit Dali as well, there's a huge Hui Muslim population there. In Guangzhou you can see one of the oldest mosques in the world dating back 1300 years ago when the earliest Arabs reached China by sea route. Chongqing (a temporary capital of the Republic of China or ROC during WWII), Chengdu, Lhasa, Changsha, etc. Outside special administrative zone include Macau, HK, Taiwan (though controversial), etc. Older / former capital include Shenyang (Mukden) - former capital of the later Jin Dynasty (Manchu), Nanjing (first capital of Ming Dynasty), Xi'an (capital of various dynasties including Han & Tang). Kaifeng & Hangzhou (old capitals of Northern & Southern Song Dynasty). Hope you get to visit Qingdao (better during summertime) - used to be a former German concession / colony. Tsingtao beer comes from that city, which used to be a former German brewery that the Germans left behind. Dalian is another cool place. Tianjin - looks like a typical European city because it got traded between the French, Italians, Austro-Hungarian and Belgians, so the houses and buildings look like typical European architecture. You can check Yuan MingYuan (Old Summer Palace ruins). It used to be a grand garden palace with a fusion of European & Oriental architectural design, but the Brits & French destroyed it in 1860. It was designed by a mix of Italian, French Jesuits and local Chinese architects built in 18th century. Took 3 generations of emperors to build but destroyed in 3 days by Brits/French.
Wow Ken, thanks for showcasing this amazing freezing Harbin to us.These ice carvings shows how creative the sculptors were plus those colourful lightings by night.Such magnificent ice works,I'm so in awe of it.Looking forward to more of your travels in China.Continue to stay warm Ken!!💕🇲🇾
Fun facts: the ice cubes used to build this ice city are SPECIAL ICE. They are cut from the frozen local river “Song Hua River” that passes through Harbin. The ice was formed while water flows slowly and gently. Therefore there is no bubble or ‘fog’ inside the ice. All ice cubes are crystal clear. You can see through the thick ice cubes. The quality of the ice ensures the embedded lights effect. Every year to ‘harvest’ the special ice for building the annual ice city is a major job. The extra ice cubes are stored deep down underneath for the next year to use.

Wow, it's absolutely amazing and awesome to watch this mind blowing Harbin Ice and Snow Festival thru' your eyes.....really fun and entertaining. I know this's truly a super duper hard work, filming with freezing temperature. Hat off to you, Ken. A huge thanks for sharing such excellent video. Harbin is indeed very beautiful !!
Nice video Ken congratulations. Im so happy you enjoyed your jerney in China. Maybe you can try Inner Mongolia or Xinjiang next time. You are always welcomed in China. 旅途愉快
Thanks so much for your great effort of 6 hours walking in the cold on our behalf, bringing to us this breathtaking experience. As a German, your English language level is excellent, your human to human connection capability is impressive. Everything you talk is spontaneous and genuine. It has become a daily ritual watching your channel.
So happy to see you in Harbin. On the Chinese internet, there is an interesting saying that the Northeast region of China is somewhat similar to Germany. The two regions share similarities in heavy industry and foods such as sauerkraut, pork knuckle and sausages .
Never realized it until now, wow, you are right ! but german culture and northeast chinese “dong bei” culture are very different. Dong bei people are way more outgoing , hospitable and warm i think.
Hi Ken I am a local of Harbin. I saw your video on Bilibili 😭 and I immediately want to check them out here. I am so proud that my hometown is loved by people all over the world! About the dish (锅包肉)your friend recommended, you might also need to order some rice to eat with it. Rice in northeastern China is famous too, it is more delicious than rice from anyone else and ppl in other regions of China love it very much. Another dish I’d like to recommend is 地三鲜, it is a stir-fried dish made of potatoes, eggplants and bell peppers. I’d like to tell you that you weren’t wearing enough. You have to wear a down coat and a sweater, and you have to wear quilted cotton pants inside your jeans. If possible, you should wear a thicker trousers than jeans outside the cotton pants. And you need to wear shoes with cotton covering the inside. About the drones, I saw the staff flying drones so there must be a way to make it possible to fly them. The Ferris wheel is actually running, but it is not very obvious because it is very slow. It takes 30 minutes for it to turn one round. I genuinely recommend this one, especially in the nighttime, because you can have a full view of the entire park, you can even see the lights on Songhua river and the bridge over it. There is also a very long slide, people take very long queue for several hours to ride on it but I don’t recommend it, it isn’t worth of your time. When I post this comment you might already left Harbin, but it is okay! We are looking forward to see you again!
What an amazing place I would love to see it. Thank you so much for taking us 😊 Do you not have this cold snow and ice and temperature in Germany? I thought you might be used to this cold. Naaw the little girl and the cookies, so cute 😊
I have also been to Harbin, and it left a very good impression on me. You should try the local famous barbecue, preferably at a crowded place. Be sure to visit the Central Street; it has a unique charm, and nearby, there's the Songhua River.
Since you came to Shanghai last year, I began to following to you. And also watched many of your previous videos. Loved the journey you shared. It was real and interesting. I hope everything goes well with your next trip and hope you like China😊
I really enjoy watching your videos, especially those about traveling in China. You have shown everyone a real, beautiful, and immensely rich China with enthusiastic people, welcoming every traveler who comes to explore the East
6:15.... Ken, it's the iron throne from game of thrones and the sugar coated stick fruit traditionally uses hawthorn which are the right hand side ones with holes in the fruit
If you really plan to go the Harbin Ice City theme park. Here's a good tip to keep you really warm for a good 8 hours from day to night. Remember, if you insulate yourself well, you won't feel cold. So first 1) remember to bring a nice thick scarf to wrap around your neck 2) wear a pair of decent ski gloves (water proof) and not the woolley knitted gloves. 3) wear a pair of long johns under your thick pants 4)and here is the special secret I will share with you, go to the supermarket and buy yourself a bag or two heat packs, these are not expensive at all, costing you most half a dollar each and they come in either individual or a pack of ten pieces. Once you tear off the plastic wrap and snap it the chemical reaction will generate heat immediately and then uses the adhesive side and stick it to the inner side of your pullover or jacket and once enclosed I guaranteed you will be nice and warm for no less than 8 hours. No need to thank me if you have tried it and find it work like magic, just pass on the knowledge to your friends.
Your video reminds me of my experience at this Ice Festival back in Jan. 2020. It's now becoming even more fascinating❤ And I still remember that after i left Harbin, in two days the covid lockdown started😂
Hi Ken,welcome to Harbin! I like watching your video very much, because I feel that no matter what you encounter during the trip, you always face it positively. Enjoy it~
Bro, Enjoy your video. the ice world is so beautiful at night time. and the little girl who give you the cookies is so cute. you will have a good time to spend the Chinese Spring festival in China. Good luck
Welcome to my hometown Harbin, which is famous for its ice and snow scenery. You have explained everything about China in a very fair and objective way. I thank you very much, much better than some British and American media
There is incredible infrastructure capacity behind this. You have to build quickly, and the construction machinery must meet the requirements for snow and low-temperature operations. There are also circuits laid inside these ice and snow buildings. Because of the ice, these circuits must be highly insulated, waterproof, and resistant to low temperatures. And these were realized in a third-tier border city in China.
Hai Ken...!!! Good to see you in Harbin.... Are you traveling together with the Jetlag Warrior? If I'm not mistaken Steve & Ivana are also going to Harbin... Thank you for showing Ice City in Harbin... China is just amazing...!!! I can't imagine having Ice City that big.... Just mind blowing..!!! It's like the whole Disneyland made from ice.... Should have dressed like Princess Elsa when go there... Great video Ken....👍👍👍
I have been looking for video of Harbin Ice and Snow World. Yours got to be the best I've seen, straight to the point of actually showing the place. I would like know which action camera are you using and what's the battery life in those temperatures. Looking forward to the rest of your videos
Hi Ken, welcome to China! The waterfountains you saw is actually sound controlled, I mean sound sensitive, the louder you are, the higher the water goes, hopefully this helps explaining your question there.
Ong looks amazing, Barrett went there also and I was blown away with the skill these ice crafters have. You have months worth of China to see yet. Take your time it will get even better
Wow, simply breathtaking and so beautiful 😍 but I just can't stand the cold unfortunately 😮. The beautiful and colourful ambience of the entire city is so wonderfully decorated and out-of-this-world experience for everyone there,,.so amazing.❤
19:41 😂 She was singing the song Lonely By Akon . she wasn’t making fun of you , its a common thing for people all around the world to relate something happening in real life to a song 😅
That strawberry thing we call it Bing Tanghulu, which is the most authentic in Northernmost. However, as a local, I tend to eat hawthorn instead of other flavor. I used to eat it quite often in winter. Enjoy your journey
I saw you on TikTok in China. You are also very popular in China. Your expressions are very clear. I even watched your videos to practice my English listening, haha. Looking forward to seeing more of your China travel videos
Looks amazing there, have been planning to go there for years but never got time while I'm in China. My daughter was there and enjoyed it and she said it was very cold😅
Hi Ken, I wish I were there, i will add it to my list if I have the opportunity I will visit there to feel the coldest as I can even feel the cold as you said, honestly it’s kind of a life experience ❤😊
KEN , I am looking forward to your future travel plan, will you go to the south of China, such as Guilin in Guangxi, I heard that the landscape there is very beautiful
Hi Ken, the video is amazing. I hope to go Harbin but the coldest deters me of going...haha. The coldest which l ever experience was -12 degree. I doubt l can withstand such a cold weather 😂
1:49 龙腾冰雪 逐梦亚冬 It's the slogan of 2024 snow festival. It roughtly translates into "dragon rising on ice and snow" and "chasing dream in Asian Winter Games (will be held in Harbin in 2025)".
Hi Ken. Glad to see you having great time in one of the currently most popular destinations, Harbin, in China😁 Since you've already arrived China's northeast(DongBei) there are some other places in the northeast I would recommend. Yanji and Tumen, are both located in Korean autonomous region. You could feel both Chinese and ethnic korean cultures there, and in Tumen, you could visit the border and overlook the view of Nanyang city of DPRK☺ Apart from that, I'd also personally recommend you two northern cities~~ One is the historic DaTong city, and the other is the coastal city full of German style buildings- Qingdao.
And around some coastal cities like Qingdao, Weihai or Yantai...in ShanDong province, there are overnight ferries scheduled to South Korea back and forth.
12:54 Never underestimate the cold dress in layers like Ken did. lol @Ken it has been -9C on average where I live for a couple of weeks. Although I find it hard to wear a mask in the cold all that moister fogs my glasses and my face is use to the cold unless it is wet snow or blowing wind.
Thanks for the video of my hometown. Had left Harbin for 20 year, still remember the stunning views of the ice and snow world. I went there every years at my younger age.
15:05 When you say Xie Xie to the meat skewer vendor, he replied 不客气 (pinyin: bú kè qì) which is the equivalent to the most common English language response 'You're welcomed'. But a more closer translation would be, 'Don't mention it'.

It has become a daily ritual watching your channel.
nice to see you're in China again in Harbin now. will visit Harbin next time.
So happy to see you in Harbin. On the Chinese internet, there is an interesting saying that the Northeast region of China is somewhat similar to Germany. The two regions share similarities in heavy industry and foods such as sauerkraut, pork knuckle and sausages .
Harbin also has its own beer brand haha
Never realized it until now, wow, you are right ! but german culture and northeast chinese “dong bei” culture are very different. Dong bei people are way more outgoing , hospitable and warm i think.
@@jinniwind 80% of chinese comedians and 50% of chinese singers are from Dong bei :)
@@JJ-3721 i wouldnt say 50% of singers but still quite a lot of celebrities from dong bei, but i guess ur right abt the comedians

Thank you 😊
Most importantly, buy tickets in advance.😂
小心吃成了胖子😂
What an amazing place I would love to see it. Thank you so much for taking us 😊
Do you not have this cold snow and ice and temperature in Germany?
I thought you might be used to this cold.
Naaw the little girl and the cookies, so cute 😊
Due to the warm Atlantic currents, Europe is much warmer, and in fact, China is generally the coldest region in winter at the same latitude.
Mind-blown! 🤯 This ice city is beyond incredible! @KenAbroad Your adventure in Harbin is like stepping into a frozen fairytale.
Wow! That was amazing. Thanks for taking us to such a cool place Ken ❤
Thanks a lot 🙏
Wow thanks Ken! This was amazing 🎉
Thank you so much for your time and your sharing your Video. Bless you.
Hi from Siberia! It's a little bit colder here. Not too far. Peace and love for everyone.
Spectacular Iceland just beautiful ❤ thank you ken 😊
Thank you for the video...keep warm
I really enjoy watching your videos, especially those about traveling in China. You have shown everyone a real, beautiful, and immensely rich China with enthusiastic people, welcoming every traveler who comes to explore the East
6:15.... Ken, it's the iron throne from game of thrones
and the sugar coated stick fruit traditionally uses hawthorn which are the right hand side ones with holes in the fruit
Oh 😅 I never watched that series
And the background is "The Wall".
It’s iconic GOT throne.
If you really plan to go the Harbin Ice City theme park. Here's a good tip to keep you really warm for a good 8 hours from day to night.
Remember, if you insulate yourself well, you won't feel cold. So first
1) remember to bring a nice thick scarf to wrap around your neck
2) wear a pair of decent ski gloves (water proof) and not the woolley knitted gloves.
3) wear a pair of long johns under your thick pants
4)and here is the special secret I will share with you, go to the supermarket and buy yourself a bag or two heat packs, these are not expensive at all, costing you most half a dollar each and they come in either individual or a pack of ten pieces.
Thanks for an excellent video! Brilliant commentaries!
Love your China series! More please!
Winter fun in Harbin China! Unique and unforgettable experiences!
Your video reminds me of my experience at this Ice Festival back in Jan. 2020. It's now becoming even more fascinating❤ And I still remember that after i left Harbin, in two days the covid lockdown started😂
Wow, it is amazing, thank you very much, Ken, love your video, so cool to watch it!
🙏
I'm absolutely hooked on your interest in everything. I love your videos.
So exciting!!! We’ll be there tomorrow!😁
Looking forward to watch your video from there, enjoy 💪
Hi Ken,welcome to Harbin! I like watching your video very much, because I feel that no matter what you encounter during the trip, you always face it positively. Enjoy it~
Thanks 🙏
You are right, Chinese people are absolutely happy to talk if they can speak English
Why not the other way around? Chinese people are absolutely happy to talk if visitors can speak Chinese.
@@leekevin5942thats true too! Bottom line is that chinese generally like to communicate, as long as the language barrier is worked out.
即使不會英文也會高興的交流,自嗨😅
Bro, Enjoy your video. the ice world is so beautiful at night time. and the little girl who give you the cookies is so cute. you will have a good time to spend the Chinese Spring festival in China. Good luck
Welcome to my hometown Harbin, which is famous for its ice and snow scenery. You have explained everything about China in a very fair and objective way. I thank you very much, much better than some British and American media
Fabulous video Ken
There is incredible infrastructure capacity behind this. You have to build quickly, and the construction machinery must meet the requirements for snow and low-temperature operations. There are also circuits laid inside these ice and snow buildings. Because of the ice, these circuits must be highly insulated, waterproof, and resistant to low temperatures. And these were realized in a third-tier border city in China.
All true but harbin is the capital city of Heilongjiang Province, so it’s a 2nd tier city actually.
third tier? second tier l think. lt is the capital of Heilongjiang province.
Really enjoyed this video!
Ken, thank you very much for showing this amazing place to us🎉💫👍👍👍
🙏
I have been looking for video of Harbin Ice and Snow World. Yours got to be the best I've seen, straight to the point of actually showing the place. I would like know which action camera are you using and what's the battery life in those temperatures. Looking forward to the rest of your videos
Thanks 💪 I'm using a dji action 3 and have no problems in the cold with this camera
Got the action 4 so that's great to hear, thanks 👍@@KenAbroad
I like your aesthetic! Every angle you recorded just showed the scenery very well.
For me, China is just a another new world.. so impressive
Hi Ken, welcome to China! The waterfountains you saw is actually sound controlled, I mean sound sensitive, the louder you are, the higher the water goes, hopefully this helps explaining your question there.
Amazing place. You are one of rhe best vloggers. Thanks.
🙏
Thanks Ken. It will definitely be in my bucket list!!
冬天的哈爾濱非常非常冷,建議到當地購買服裝,因為便宜又非常能禦寒,即使行李放不下也可以丟了不心疼。
I have been this ice and snow world before, I know how hard work you did. Thank you very much to bring such incredible video for us.
🙏
Ong looks amazing, Barrett went there also and I was blown away with the skill these ice crafters have.
You have months worth of China to see yet. Take your time it will get even better
Marvelous, so beautiful, thanks for sharing 👍💐
Wow, simply breathtaking and so beautiful 😍 but I just can't stand the cold unfortunately 😮. The beautiful and colourful ambience of the entire city is so wonderfully decorated and out-of-this-world experience for everyone there,,.so amazing.❤
19:41 😂 She was singing the song Lonely By Akon . she wasn’t making fun of you , its a common thing for people all around the world to relate something happening in real life to a song 😅
Es hat viel Spaß gehabt Ken 🙏♥️
Fun fact: People start build the icy wonderland before the river is solid frozen. So they use ice blocks harvested last year.
That strawberry thing we call it Bing Tanghulu, which is the most authentic in Northernmost. However, as a local, I tend to eat hawthorn instead of other flavor. I used to eat it quite often in winter. Enjoy your journey
Heyy Ken, cat n mouse is actually 'Tom & Jerry' ahaha.
I saw you on TikTok in China. You are also very popular in China. Your expressions are very clear. I even watched your videos to practice my English listening, haha.
Looking forward to seeing more of your China travel videos
Thanks!
Thanks a lot, appreciate it 🙏
Good job. It's a well made video. Appreciate your hard work for 6 hours in this cold environment
9:19 This is Tanghulu, a very traditional hibernal appetizer in northern China.❤
I went there 5 years ago, at -30 degrees, can't keep my hands out of the glove for like more than 30 seconds.
Thank you for braving through the freezing weather to show us what is like in Harbin
哈爾濱非常非常寒冷,但可以到當地超市購買服裝,非常非常便宜又保暖,帶不走丟了也不會心疼~
Freaking awesome!! The ice structures are sophisticated and beautiful beyond words.
Great trip and a very hot place in a China right now. Will follow you to explore more in China🎉
Hi Ken. Well done for your team Bremen beating Bayern on their own ground 👍👍
KEN , I am looking forward to your future travel plan, will you go to the south of China, such as Guilin in Guangxi, I heard that the landscape there is very beautiful
I’m really enjoy your video in china! 👍
Your English is so good I can easily understand. There are a couple from British I hardly understand what they say.
Hi Ken, the video is amazing. I hope to go Harbin but the coldest deters me of going...haha. The coldest which l ever experience was -12 degree. I doubt l can withstand such a cold weather 😂

龙腾冰雪 逐梦亚冬
It's the slogan of 2024 snow festival. It roughtly translates into "dragon rising on ice and snow" and "chasing dream in Asian Winter Games (will be held in Harbin in 2025)".
Hi Ken.
Glad to see you having great time in one of the currently most popular destinations, Harbin, in China😁
Since you've already arrived China's northeast(DongBei) there are some other places in the northeast I would recommend.
Yanji and Tumen, are both located in Korean autonomous region. You could feel both Chinese and ethnic korean cultures there, and in Tumen, you could visit the border and overlook the view of Nanyang city of DPRK☺
Apart from that, I'd also personally recommend you two northern cities~~
One is the historic DaTong city, and the other is the coastal city full of German style buildings- Qingdao.
And around some coastal cities like Qingdao, Weihai or Yantai...in ShanDong province, there are overnight ferries scheduled to South Korea back and forth.
哈哈哈,home friend❤
12:54 Never underestimate the cold dress in layers like Ken did. lol @Ken it has been -9C on average where I live for a couple of weeks. Although I find it hard to wear a mask in the cold all that moister fogs my glasses and my face is use to the cold unless it is wet snow or blowing wind.
Dude, -9 in January is actually pretty warm. It's usually -20 or so. You were lucky
The cat and mouse cocktail is actually Tom and Jerry😂 Chinese people translated this cartoon into Cat and Mouse.
