  • Freezing & Chaotic Arrival In Harbin, China. I am here for the Harbin Ice Festival.
    My main channel ➡️ ‪@KenAbroad‬
    Harbin in northeast China is actually one of the most popular places to visit in China during winter. The main reason for that is the Harbin Ice Festival that takes places every year here in Harbin. I will show you the Harbin Ice Festival (it's basically a huge city made out of ice) on my main channel in a full video.

    A very funny scene in the video: You are under a sign, which says that taxis are not allowed to carry passengers here and must enter the underground passage of the station to pick up passengers.So didi drivers keep canceling your order.

    Nice to see you visiting Harbin. Harbin is an aging industrialized city located in Northeast China, so it is not a typical tourist city. Due to the cold climate and the continuous rise of China's coastal cities, the city and the entire Northeast China region have fallen into decline over the past few decades and suffered a serious population outflow. With the coming of winter, this ice city has once again become popular on China’s Douyin, attracting widespread attention from the Chinese people. The government obviously wants to seize the opportunity to drive urban economic growth through ice and snow tourism. Maybe this city will not It is as convenient for international tourists as Shanghai and Beijing, but you still overcome the obstacles and come here. I hope you can experience a different city, enthusiastic people and local culture. bless you

    • @sigmalew6651
      @sigmalew6651 7 месяцев назад

      Not really, it IS a tourist destination, and not low on the list. The city was once just a small settlement, then came the October Revolution of Russia. Lots of Russian/Belarussian rich/aristocrats fleed Russia and went to Harbin, and that's why there are lots of Orthodox churchs there, along with other Western architectures. These alone have already made Harbin a tourist destination domestically for decades, let alone the ice festival which has been a thing also for decades.

    In 2007, I traveled to Harbin. Although the ice and snow sculptures at that time were not that big, to me, they were amazing! My friends and I also did some stupid things. We had an ice cream eating competition outdoors at -21 degrees, wearing only short-sleeved clothes, to see who could last the longest. I won the game. I stood for 1 minute and 33 seconds.😂

At the end of the tour, you can visit the 731 Crime Evidence Museum in Harbin. It's free. It contains evidence of the Japanese invasion of China. You're right, Ken. Those are porcelain vases and can fetch a very high price. As always, you are very calm to find your route/way to your destination/hotel.... advantage of being an experienced traveller. Oh gosh, the lowest temperature that l have had experienced before was 8°C, in Beijing. I was shivering even though l had a few layers of clothing 😄😃 A nice hotel room and that meal of pork looks super yummy. The first time DD canceled the order, may be because the distance was too short and the driver thought it was not a correct order. I have encountered this situation several times. Later, my friend told me that when encountering this situation, I should first ask the people around me, the destination may be within a few minutes' walk.

    Great video from my fellow countryman Ken. So assume the Didi drivers cancelled because it is too near from where you were to the hotel. Wouldn’t happen on the US. I had already experienced that someone ordered an Uber for 300 meter distance.

    My mother in law's native tongue is Teochew, a Chinese dialect commonly found in my part of Indonesia. She also speaks broken Indonesian. But every where she travelled to (outside of Indonesia) she spoke Indonesian to the locals. 😄Even during our visit to China last December, Bahasa Indonesia is her default language when speaking to foreigners despite Teochew being closer to Mandarin than Bahasa Indonesia. 😁

    This is something that I couldn't found an answer to understand. China and India both had almost the same population of over 1.4 billion, both with more than 5,000 years of history and civilization, both are Asian. How come China is so clean, tidy, well organized, people are so disciplined and India is amazingly dirty and chaotic?

    • @jzeng2022
      @jzeng2022 7 месяцев назад

      Strictly speaking, China and India are at different stages of development. As long as the economy develops and people's living standards improve, the government will have money to build and maintain cities and public facilities, and people will naturally abide by the law. Go back thirty years and China is as chaotic as India.

      @@jzeng2022A valid point. However, India even 30-40 years from now, well.. I don't think they will reach the level of China today. Maybe in a century..., maybe!!

    Sorry abt ur stressful arrival and the branches thing can happen in nany cities in China, hope that wouldnt be a problem in the future. U r so brave to go to Harbin, can't wait for tmr video and wish u had a wonderful journey. As for Bilibili, many vonlunteers will take ur videos there and add subtitles in both Chinese and English, that's no good but it's mainly for sharing and studying pirpose, they didn't mean to steal ur copyright or so, cuz too many chinese can't use youtube and don't know English well so that they can't support u here. I believe the ones who can use youtube will come here after seeing the videos in Bilibili. And it would be wonderful if u could open an account there, the view amount are reeeeally high and I believe there will be many chinese vendors waiting for u~~~~~And a big shoutout for a collaboration video with @歪果仁研究协会,they r making a series to offer free guide for foreigners, can't imagine what a incredible journey u two could collide into !
