  • Marc Lamont Hill sits down with Vernon Jones, Republican candidate for Georgia governor, who
    said that he would ban critical race theory if elected.
    Republican-led states are moving forward with a ban on the teaching, saying that it's "un-American."
    When asked to define what critical race theory is, Jones could not answer what he'd be banning, leading to a heated conversation with Hill.

As a youth, I would always wonder how the Black people felt in class when the history teacher talked about slavery? It made them sound weak and broken. There were never stories about their purpose on our soil other than to plow the land and toil. I’d put $ on the fact that Black students must have felt shame and uncomfortable in those classes. Maybe discussing America’s true National History will make all students feel equally vulnerable and force us to talk about it? We’ve got to do something to heal our troubled society.

      @Daniel Berger
      Using the title of a respected work to address a separate issue only adds confusion. We have established that prisons are the modern convict leasing and the resulting effects are Jim crow-esk with related issues and a connected history.
      CRT is the idea that we should see how race impacts the function of institutions. CRT doesn't define race but looks at how racial power is exerted.
      The definition of racism is faulty and reliance on it is a result of whiteness. The way words function in a dictionary only gives us a limited conception of how they work in the real world.
      Dictionaries are theoretical by nature, connotation and denotation also inform interpretation.
      Racism in America denotes a system that benefits white people and teaches them to recreate patterns that disadvantage many other groups.
      Racisms connotation is that black people will not be as prosperous as their white peers (as a group) even when doing the same or more work ( slavery, sharecropping, Jim crow etc)
      Race impacts education, health (covid had black ppl dying bad), work, social esteem and life outcomes.
      The same criticisms the black community are raising now have been raised in every era of black life and the same people still wish to "set a timetable for another man's freedom"
      Lastly the racial education we lack is part of the problem. White people have maintained a racial ignorance that is often used to pretend as if they cannot see the wrong. This has sucked energy out of the black community that could be used to create independent institutions.
      Because black people have fought pretty hard to be friends and neighbors with white people we end up in these situations.
      It seems that the only time white masses can see racism is when they feel impacted.

    • @michaelm2772
      @michaelm2772 3 года назад

      Yeah, hard to understand why people would think CRT is being taught in the schools when the teachers union says they will defend it. The problem is that both sides stick to their talking points and ignpore the reality of the situation. Lamont is an educated man who knows alot about CRT, so for Vernon to act the way he did was completely wrong and really shows his ignoranace. However, Lamont is being disengenious to say that CRT is not being taught in schools. Technically he is right, CRT in it's orginal form is not being taught in the public schools, however, RT (race thinking without the critical part) is being taught. Teaching that America is still a sytemically racist and white supremacist country falls under the new modern ideology of CRT and is being taught in our schools. There are advocates who are pushing that the teaching of math is racist and says focusing on a right answer
      could be a form of white supremancy. So yes, that is not CRT, but this what they are trying to push into our schools. The left initially used the term CRT because it has a long estabilished history, sounds good, and is actually a good thing. But then when the right realized they really aren't teaching CRT, they are teaching just the RT part of it, the left now makes the arguement we aren't teaching "CRT" and wants to debate over the definition of CRT so they can say, "see we aren't teaching that". So it has become a game of semantics and both sides end up losing.

Not everyone can become Marc Lamont Hill. There is only so much room for these social commentator types in our society! It's a joke because hardly anyone values those fields in the marketplace. Most people have NO CLUE what CRT is actually about!
      So, I’ll inform you.
      It’s an attempt to review LAWS in the US that have been used to create racial disparity.
      I like guns so I will give you this as an example.
      Explain this:
      www.sedgwickcounty.org/media/29093/the-racist-origins-of-us-gun-control.pdf
      Black people didn’t write these laws...
      Some of these laws still are on the books till this day. Regardless of if they’re enforced. The laws the have passed recently are more covert in the way they a written out. Think about how “Stop and Frisk” has been used to incarcerate black “super predators” like the Clintons call it. Or even the way crack cocaine vs powder, depending on which you get caught with can determine if you spend a few years(for powder) vs. a decade or more in jail(for the rock).
      CRT is all about the laws, and any claim that the average white citizen is responsible is strictly an attempt to wake white people up to how they benefit from the laws in a way black people don’t and if acknowledging that is wrong than I’m 100% incorrect 😅
      Research:
      *The Devils Punch Bowl of the 1880s: Natchez, Mississippi*
      *The Massacre of 1921: Tulsa, Oklahoma*
      *The Massacre of 1923: Rosewood, Florida*
      *The Black Teen Holocaust of 1959: Arkansas*
      &
      *The Massacre of 2015: Charleston, South Carolina*
      Just to name a few. This is a small portion of the atrocities done here in America towards blacks specifically but there are horrible things that have been allowed by our government against all its citizens.
      So after these dates are researched, then I’d like someone to explain to me why Critical Race Theory is racist....
      Clearly something needs to change

    "PhDs are a dime a dozen" - Republicans on Education

    • @measl
      @measl 3 года назад +4

      *Unfortunately, he's right about the "dime a dozen" for almost every terminal and professional degree awarded today. We have utterly destroyed our university system, and the community colleges are close behind their "bigger sister" institutions. As bad as this state of affairs is, what I find **_truly_** terrifying is the rapid advances now being made into our K12 foundational systems of primary and secondary "educational infrastructure". The sooner a kid is exposed to this, the stronger it's hold will be - and this Marxist attack is turning out to be spectacularly successful in it's application as well as it's results. The true irony though is that the current attack was successful because it was close to invisible, and the ridiculous COV2 lockdowns were the primary force that brought this to light. The forced "teleinstruction" programs were removed from the classrooms, where parental invisibility was close to perfect, and ended up on a screen with a speaker system that allowed parents to hear what was actually being done to their children in real time, and in an **_undeniable_** way (by personal experience of hearing the so-called "curriculum" for themselves, without any effective way for the hiding to remain effective.*
      *In the final analysis, COV2 may well have saved the country - a true irony for a disease that has killed millions of humans across the planet, and over 600,000 Americans here in the USA alone.*
      *Anyone who took a professional or terminal degree prior to [roughly] 1990 has recognized the glaring differences between their education, and the educations of those who came after us. While it was just a "something, I'm not sure what, but **_something_** is wrong here" feeling/suspicion in the early 90's, by 1995 it was crystal clear that the system had been **_radically_** altered - and not for the better. By 2000, it was so obvious that the system was awarding degrees to candidates who were completely unprepared, and mostly incapable of being trusted with the practice of their fields in any of the sciences which required actual intervention as the backbone of the practice (for example, Physicians [mostly MD/PhD's today: one additional year and you get both the professional and the terminal degrees, although that extra year actually resulted in little to no additional knowledge or abilities). I will not use, nor allow anyone in my circle of friends and family, to use, without a huge fight, physicians trained after 1990, unless there are **_exceptional_** and **_unavoidable_** circumstances - say a subspecialty that has so few practitioners that there is effectively no real choice in who you will end up seeing [for instance, microvascular hand surgeons].*
      *It is routine today to run into "PhD's" who have little more than early postgraduate-student levels of training and abilities. Hell, I have a neighbor with more initials after his name than I do, and I wouldn't trust this "world class plastic surgeon" to change a ten cent Band-Aid with a very minor scratch under it. My oldest boy is about to marry a **_really_** nice girl - as a human being, she's a genuine catch - but as a supposed PhD in European History, her knowledgebase - **_in her own field of study_** - is abysmal! I am no history buff, but I seem to have a far wider geberal education in **_her_** area of expertise. She got all of her postsecondary education from a top-10 Ivy (an **_extremely_** respected institution when I was still school aged, and even worse, I doubt that I would have qualified to even attend there had it been on my list of chosen destinations - while today I wouldn't even consider attending what has morphed into such an abysmal university).*
      *Generally, a terminal degree today is more likely to prove you have been poorly educated, although expertly indoctrinated. Attending a university today is a foolish waste of precious time and resources, unless you have no other choice [because you need their rotting sheepskins in order to join your chosen profession(s)].*
