Can u imagine a place where most DJ's in Los Angeles came together to mix together in like 1987 -1992? All DJ's in L.A. practice together back then Me (DJ Mike T) and DJ Aladdin or Me and DJ Battlecatt or DJ Battlecatt and DJ Bobcat or DJ Bobcat and DJ Joe Cooley or The Egyptian Lover and DJ Joe Cooley. We had an unseen to the public practice sessions and we all use to learn each others style but not imitating each other. Imagine this DJ Ralph M of Funkdoobiest and DJ Joe Cooley mixing together. Well it did happen back then because all those DJ's, except me, were The old AM music Station K-DAY Mix Masters and they used to blast their mixing live or pre recorded on the radio on Fri or Sat nites. It started back in 1986 with The Egyptian Lover, Mr. Prince (R.I.P.) and DJ Bobcat. Probably me, DJ Slip, DJ Muggs (Cypress Hills) and DJ Crazy Toones (R.I.P.)were probably the only ones that weren't Mix Masters.

@@pairmike We all still connect from time to time. Battlecatt stays on his Instagram and DJ Aladdin still make mixes on his RUclips channel. DJ Joe Cooley stays on his Facebook and The Egyptian Lover is always on his Facebook as well.
I learned on 2 Technics 1210 with a Numark mixer back in 1988. So, I have experienced both old school and the digital age. My videos are to help those that love the art of DJing but need a little assistance or for those who want to learn different scratch patterns.

"It's time" was signature BobCat from the Big Daddy Production days. Crenshaw 1984. I hired him to dj at a noon dance and he killed it. Before Uncle Jams Army.

I remember when i 1st started Djing on a Ns7 controller in 2016 it felt so weired i think because im so use too Djing on your average Techniques 1200s, but i've gotten use to Serato and my Ns7 controller since then im thinking it's time for a up grade and i got my eye on the new Rane controller😎😎😎
Yeah the switch is a bit weird at first, but you will soon get use to it.
have to agree with robadicks...really like how you break it down to basics in slow motion and then speed up...showing the proper drills to do for practice and then showing how it all sounds together over the track that's playing. great work. hopefully you will continue this series on scratching.

I don't have a DJ drop. I suggest that you load it into SP-6 sample slot on Serato DJ or Serato Itch. You can then trigger it at any time using the appropriate key on the keyboard.

Hey , thanks man, definitely appreciate these videos! I'm new DJ, been practicing for about 6 months off and on between my school work, I'm going to school for music production also, so I'm learning about DAW apps, and all the new digital tools and skills that you can use in apply and utilize with the music industry now. But, if you got any advice, I've been learning to scratch on both my Numark mixtrack Platinum DJ controller, as well as my turntables and my Stanton SMX.211 scratch mixer, but I've been having to teach myself with the volume fader, because my crossfader does not work correctly. But any advice, and he videos you got, or just any friendly help would be extremely appreciated, thank you my friend, awesome videos. I absolutely look forward to learning more, and utilizing the skills and applying them to my own music, thanks again man, and nice to meet you. I think I'm having problems finding that certain sound/pitch. Different parts of the song plays different sounds so I'm not sure which part to start on? Does it make a differences which part of the song? But I think I just need to keep practicing. I'm just starting out. I watch all your other videos and just have to keep or acting and have patients.
Go here and purchase the super seal (1st link). Then start off with my video on Drops and Baby Scratches. Work on your timing by counting 1 2 3 4 while performing baby scratches with a beat playing. Keep doing this without using the fader (fader open). After you have become comfortable with that, try opening and closing the fader while simultaneously doing the baby scratches. It takes a great deal of time and practice, but don't give up. If you get discouraged, and you will, take a break and practice again another time. I know you can do it!

Josue Isaac I turn my cross fader to the sharpest setting (turn the knob all the way to the left), meaning if I open cross fader just a little the volume is at the full level.

Actually I have been trying to figure out how to execute my DJ drops using the NS7. Have you any suggestions for that? And where do you create your drops?
Any advantages using a technics turntable over the ns7? Im having issues learning the delayed click flare scratch on my ns7. Thanks
DJ Fish Scott Fisher I think either should work for you. On the NS7, you may have to adjust the slope of the cross fader.
What issue are you having specifically? Is the source of the problem the scratch hand or the cross faded hand?
@@pairmike its the crossfader hand. Crossfader slope is all the way to the right. It cuts in immediately. I own the ns7 which i use at the bar and I own 2 v7s to practice at home. I've been watching how to scratch videos on youtube and practicing everyday the last 3 months or so. I think once i figure out the flare scratch all other scratches will be easier. I see alot of the pros using a reversed crossfader. I think normal is the way to go.

DJ Fish Scott Fisher play with adjust the slope off the cross fader. If it is cutting out when you move it slightly, then the cross fader is too sharp. Try adjusting it
