I remember feeling so shocked & betrayed when I saw this for the first time as a kid.
Funny that CJ didn't really like Cesar at first, for being with his sister and being from Los Varrios Aztecas, but he turned out to be more of a true homie, unlike Big Smoke & Ryder.
I love how a Mexican and an African American can be so cool with each other, considering this is the early 90's.

Fun fact : the reason why cj didn't say anything about ryder is because r* never planned to make ryder a traitor. It was originally gonna be only big smoke who betrayed cj and ryder stay loyal to the grove. So ryder's betrayal was an afterthought and didn't have much (or any) detail, hence the reason cj doesn't say anything about him.

Not being able to take over the damn territories and exterminating Ballas sucks majorly, though it's possible to drive back but it just doesn't feel the same, as even the grove street is taken by the Ballas with no homies in sight
Fuck it. I am stucked in Torreno's flying mission. But flying missions were easy in the phone version tho
I love the chemistry between CJ & Cesar, not many Blacks & Mexicans bond that way these days. Always focusing on their pride, racism & shit. Sweet didn't approve of Cesar at first though, him being Mexican & going out with his sister. Goes to show that the least unlikely person you'd ever thought you'd meet will be your real homeboy.

we all knew smoke was gonna betray the game since he was first introduced and here are the clues to his betrayal
1. he didn't attend cj and sweet's mom's funeral
2. he tried to change the subject when cj and sweet were talking about their mom in the mission "drive thru"
3. he didn't shoot the ballas in the same mission
4. his house is in idlewood, ballas' territory
i don't see how anyone wouldn't think smoke would become a traitor when those clues i just mentioned were so obvious

When I first played this I had zero respect for Caesar. I didn't even trust him at all. When he wanted me to meet him I was like "oh shit it's a trap he's gonna do something to me" but then I saw this and now I trust him with everything. I love Caesar he's my favorite character along with Cj

I always knew that Smoke and Ryder had sold out GSF. Ryder was just able to hide his betrayal better. Smoke never shot at Ballas and even made up the ridiculous excuse of wanting to finish his food over protecting his life in a shootout. He moved to Ballas territory, always changed to subject when Sweet wanted to talk about CJ and his mom. And, he didn't even attend the funeral. Ryder was just too damn critical of CJ and way too hard on him.

You know, a lot of you guys might find this mission heart breaking, but honestly, it's not that bad. We can see from the beginning in the game that Big Smoke was really a treacherous bullshitting piece of shit. Ryder... I feel like he just wanted more attention, and was jealous CJ came along. Even though both knew about the hit, in the introduction, Big Smoke did say some things were bound to happen and that can lead them forward in life, and Ryder was just going with the flow, meaning like whatever happens, happens. He's not supporting nor stopping from the hit happening. Just to summarize in what I'm saying: Big Smoke wants a better life and fortune, and he knows that by stepping on his current surroundings and affiliations, he can obtain it. Ryder on the other hand, doesn't really care what goes on. If Sweet, OG Loc, or Big Smoke dies, his reaction would just be, "That's part of being in the hood" He's basically very passive. This can relate to real life, people can betray an organization or corporation if you want to think business minded, people will step on you for a better career, or step on you if they are jealous of you. Also, this mission unlocks another 1/3 territory, which is a nice bonus. Trust me guys, Rockstar made this mission for a purpose, hell, any kind of betrayal missions relate to real life. I can give you many more.

+gameexpert2011 If you were playing it as a teen of adult you can see that something was going on, but as a kid it was a real surprise the first time you do this mission, not only learning the truth about CJ's mom death, but also Sweet going to jail and you can't do anything about it, I'm not saying this mission is bad, actually is were you become emotionaly involved with the history and it comes more interesting
José Roberto Alván Very true. I couldn't agree on it more. First time I accomplished this mission was 12, and I never understood why this appearance occurred. But a few years around 14 or 15, after analyzing the situation and have a deeper understanding of it, I finally understood why it happened, and it's pretty obvious it was inevitable from the beginning of the storyline.

Even if this game is full of violence, This still is one of the saddest moments in grand theft auto. Other then Roman getting killed.
I feel like the concept of making the choice when presented was all a setup. It did not matter before. But when it comes time and you take the deal or revenge it is a lose lose situation.

That life caught up to him and He eventually had to pay a price. This is no GTA V where all three canonically reconciled and got away with all the money in the end
In GTA IV it's Roman's greed that gets him killed. Despite everything that Dimitri did to them, Roman still tries to persuade Niko to make the deal with the backstabbing prick. And what happened? Roman died

This mission makes me sad... poor CJ.
On one hand, I hated this mission because I lost access to territories and gang wars which gave me a lot of ammo and guns, and money back at the safehouse to collect, but on the other hand I like this mission because it gives me access to so many new things, and the missions out in the countryside can give you a lot more money than in Los Santos, and plus Ballas and Vagos aren't always shooting at you when you're just minding your own business doing what you feel like in the countryside. Los Santos, though, they'll jump on you at the worst of times, and the random attacks on your hood isn't always pleasing, but it's still a great opportunity to get ammo and guns, plus free health and armor if you find them during the gang wars.
I am currently playing through the game rn. It really does feel relieving to ride those long roads on a bike, while listening to K-Rose radio station.

3:33 when CJ says “Moms!” It made me sad. Especially when CJ realizes in that moment that the Green Sabre was used to infiltrate Grove Street and shoot up CJ’S house.
This mission changed the entire game forever for me.
There is literally no other GTA story as deep and touching as San Andreas

Fuck no. Gta IV is like "I don't have money and I'll work for everybody to get it" and ending was waaay too predictable. I mean it's missions is almost all doing for business and less about relationships and deep story. Don't get me wrong Gta IV is great game but for me it's not on San Andreas level.

Smoke's betrayal was so obvious in the beginning. In the mission Drive Thru, he tries to digress from the discussion of CJ's mom's murder and when the Ballas attack them, he tries to shun shooting at them, using the food as an excuse. Also, he lives in Idlewood, which is Ballas' territory, and has the cops walking in and out of his house. Those blatant clues to Smoke's betrayal are far too obtrusive for you to be oblivious to.

Hernandez and Cesar might be in a connection, maybe Hernandez told Cesar this all along, that's why he's killed by Tenpenny and Pulaski..

I had made this comment on the myth video about that green sabre car
Tenpenny and Pulaski might have wanted to bring Carl under them
So they took the green car and drove it in the garage. They wanted to be seen
Hernandez was not present so there is a possibility that he had informed Caesar. The second possibility is that crash themselves might have seen Caesar there
So, to bring Carl, they waited. As Carl saw everything, Pulaski backed out the car to use it as a bait.
After Carl left to rescue sweet, during that time smoke or ryder might have repainted the car or destroyed it under Tenpenny's orders and then we know everything leading to Carl's exile and Sweet's arrest

The only clues of Ryder's betrayal were in the mission "House Party" where he say he was gonna go get Smoke and the rest of the guys and never came back and the mission "Reuniting the Families" where he and Smoke ditched CJ.

I'm playing these games for years but now I understood the story of them and that makes them better than they look. I played this mission today and oh my God, it was very dark, the "Mission passed" that didn't appear, the fact that it was rainning it made it more dark and real, like WHOAH

7 years ago I completed this, still emotional about this game. Nice storyline, huge map, nice rain but lacks reality which is included in GTA V.
Lacks reality? Dude do you even know the difference between 2004 and 2013 games. G.T.A. San Andreas was developed in 2004 while G.T.A 5 on 2013.

I think Smoke should've been the only traitor. He had more of a motivation for what he did and he was the main focus of selling out the Grove Street Families. Ryder's betrayal, on the other hand, makes no sense whatsoever. There are three possibilities that R* could've written him as.
1) They should've had him stay in exile along with CJ and occasionally get in contact with LB to get information on Smoke's yay.
2) He should've disappeared after CJ found out about Big Smoke's betrayal and sometime when you get to Las Venturas, Toreno calls you to inform you that you have to meet someone at the rehab center. And that someone would be - you guessed it!
3) He should've been killed as a GSF member, right in the Green Sabre mission, giving CJ more of a reason to be pissed off at Smoke.
That's how Ryder should've went out, not as a traitor. He had so much wasted potential.

I remember that I was shocked when I first played this mission.
I remember being scared for everyone by that point when I played this as a kid. I mean, CJ and his more loyal friends and family who are now at risk since Ryder and Big Smoke are in cahoots with CRASH and the Balla’s drug operation. This was a gutted moment for everyone who played this.
The intro to this missions got me hella gassed up as if I was a grove street family too 🥶😈
Man, I was 12 years old when I played this. I remember pausing the game right after the skit in pure shock. The first time I ever felt betrayal haha.
