Yup. Imagine like during the shoot out, Ryder, Cj's childhood friend, sacrifice himself in order to save cj despite ryder being mean to him previously. It adds of sad flavour in a mission where cj discover big smoke being selloff to c.r.a.s.h while sweet was badly hurt and was sent into prison.

Fun fact, Ryder was never meant to be an antagonist in the game that’s why CJ doesn’t mention Ryder in this mission. Simply Rockstar didn’t bother going back and fixing that mistake
It was acknowledged later in the game after this mission so it didn't really matter.
they had a problem with the voice actor. Thats why they eliminated ryder from the storyline.
What mistake? The story may have been different or the actor occupied but remember, if they had forgetten then why would they add him in Pier 69. He even says a line that is unique to that mission.
@@mikehawk2003 it was cut from the another mission. I think it was 'Catalyst'. Also he didn't record new lines after 'Reuniting the Families'.

The thing with San Andreas is it has character development. You become invested in these guys so it hurt when Smoke and Ruder turned..
Both CJ and I felt betrayed and shocked when we did this mission...

I remember playing this as a kid seeing Ryder and Smoke betray Grove almost made me cry lol then when Tempenny leaves you out on the country side I felt lost, like I (CJ) had no one. That's why "Homecoming" is my favourite mission because it was good to see Sweet & good to be back in the hood after being away for so long. It had a real life feeling to it. Best GTA hands down.

What I always love about GTA games, you know you reached the middle of the story when something bad happens. But you know something good will happen soon in the story, and I think Rockstar does an amazing job making these stories. They make you feel sad for the characters, they make you feel cheery.
This type of storyline is the best, BUT, that type exist only in GTA San Andreas and GTA 4 :P

@J. Jay I think it's because Ryder's VA (MC Eiht) was working on an album or something. He doesn't have bad blood with rockstar or anything, in fact, he made rap lyrics for GTA V's theme song.

I think Smoke should've been the only traitor. He had more of a motivation for what he did and he was the main focus of selling out the Grove Street Families. Ryder's betrayal, on the other hand, makes no sense whatsoever. There are three possibilities that R* could've written him as.
1) They should've had him stay in exile along with CJ and occasionally get in contact with LB to get information on Smoke's yay.
2) He should've disappeared after CJ found out about Big Smoke's betrayal and sometime when you get to Las Venturas, Toreno calls you to inform you that you have to meet someone at the rehab center. And that someone would be - you guessed it!
3) He should've been killed as a GSF member, right in the Green Sabre mission, giving CJ more of a reason to be pissed off at Smoke.
That's how Ryder should've went out, not as a traitor. He had so much wasted potential.
His voice actor quit, but yes in the begging smoke didn’t seem to care about CJ , unlike Ryder and ESPECIALLY Sweet, who were upset with him being gone for 5 years, while smoke is just unfazed.
The 3rd Option makes more sense for a story wise.
The third option is the darkest, but also the best. Now, CJ has to avenge THREE deaths of people who were close to him: His younger brother Brian, his mother Beverly and his close friend Ryder.
OG Loc should've replaced Ryder in The Green Sabre.

In the beta, Big Bear with Smoke were the traitors. Ryder would help CJ in the shootout, but he'd die. But because some things didn't make sense, so they put Ryder as a traitor.

Some models are remastered so I think the cutscene made his eyes large and Rockstar left it like that or probably it was Cesar's emotion.
Loved how the story made you go through so many different environments. I loved spending time in the counties. None of the newer GTAs could replicate it.
This mission and its role in giving the story a twist makes GTA San Andreas one of the best games I have played in terms of plot and writing. Tenpenny, what a freaking evil man that guy was.

The worst part about betrayal is it never comes from a enemy.
One thing I like about this mission is that when the Mission Completed screen appears, the theme song doesn't play, reflecting on how CJ feels after realising Big Smoke and Ryder betrayed him, Sweet getting arrested and is essentially being held hostage by Tenpenny, and his own sister and Cesar being forced to flee Los Santos. The details are just good in this game

I like how, when a mission ends on a bad note, there's no music. I guess it just seems appropriate. Also, as climactic and tragic as this mission is, it's really where the game starts getting interesting.

It’s rumored that Ryder was never intended to be a bad guy. If you pay attention to the dialogue throughout the entire game, Ryder’s betrayal was only mentioned a few times. He wasn’t even mentioned in this scene when he was there with Smoke.

Officer Tenpenny might be the greatest mastermind. He was using Smoke and Ryder all along, kidnaps CJ with the threat of killing Sweet if he attempts to head back to Los Santos, all without the public knowing what REALLY happened. Not even Mikhail do that if it was in his dreams.
