- Did you notice these 12 early signs Big Smoke would betray CJ in GTA San Andreas that Rockstar Games put hidden early? There are a lot of secret hidden clues and hints that Big Smoke would end up becoming bad in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas compared to other GTA Games, some of these include the famous Big Smokes Order and CRASH always being at Smoke's house.

@@DrModGTA there were actually some cut voice lines from Smoke that make it even more obvious that he's a traitor but Rockstar cut them because they made it a bit too obvious and wanted his betrayal to come as more of a shock to players.
When I first saw that his home was in ballar territory, I kinda found it werid.
Me too. No honorable grove streeter would feel at home there. They would have to watch their backs all the time which is stressful.
That was the biggest give away that he was a snake.
@@MossiahAce091 If I was in Big Smokes shoes, I would publicly have a home in Grove Street but just in case also a SECRET house deep in Ballas territory (that I would tell about to no grove street member) where I could run for my life spontaneously in the same minute I hear Grove Street crowds have discovered my treachery. I find it bizarre to remember from 20 years ago that Smoke did not even seem nervous to take my protagonist (CJ) to his Ballas territory house. Like I said, I would have gone to great lengths to hide my Ballas house. As far as I can remember, immediately after I got "mission complete", I was nervous like "Oh boy!!! I need to get the heck out of here back to Grove Street to save my game before the Ballas jump on my throat".
Same I kept asking myself why he lives in Balla territory.
Grove Street Party !!!
At the 4:00, Ryder shoots at Ballas Car, Big Smoke does not, because Ryder was not planned as a traitor in the beginning. They changed it last minute.
Yes, I believe Rider's voice actor MC Eiht quit during production and the writers had to improvise
I'm thinking about making a video on this soon! 😁

For point 6, once again, Big Smoke's infamous order was really just him ordering for the whole car as he repeats everyone's order and add his own stuff. Hence the "I'll take a number 9, fat boy", CJ was talking to Smoke and why Smoke asked him what he wanted in the first place.
Then why they turn around when he order his food
@@mst7322They turn around when he starts ordering a lot of food for himself (after the other orders).
@@MartyKay yup. Ryder and CJ both get a number 9, and Sweet gets a number 6 with extra dip. In bold I'll put their order.
"I'll have *Two number nines*, a number 9 large, *a number 6 with extra dip*, a number 7 (they start to turn around as he still ain't done), two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
And lastly, you just have to have gone to a drive thru to know that one person (usually the driver but in this case, smoke) orders for the whole car as the microphone ain't gonna pick up everybody in the car

Notice how when CJ spots Ryder and Smoke with the Ballers, he only mentions Smoke in the dialogue. That’s the proof that Ryder wasn’t initially supposed to betray Grove.
Notice in mission 7: Drive By that during the car talk scene, Big Smoke is totally silent. Everyone says something except Smoke and that's because he is nervous about something.
@@97_Fredoyeah i don’t understand why he was there if he was planning to betray grove street why would he kill ballas if he was going to join them? Rockstar should’ve taken him out of that mission

@@nameless10802 I think Lamar fits more
He wasn’t but his VA and rockstar fall out and they just shoehorned his betrayal the very last minute. You noticed cj said big smoke name and never mentioned Ryder at all even though he’s there too.

They were better off letting Ryder get eliminated in the last mission before Sweet is taken into police custody at that freeway war zone.
In hindsight all of Big Smokes missions are him eliminating drug dealing competition.
Running Man - you kill the errand boy
Wrong side of the tracks - you kill ese’s going to get drugs in San Fierro
Just Business - you kill the Russians who were trying to take some of Smokes turf
Also the betrayal came from Sweet not wanting GS to sell crack
Don’t forget that one mission where big smoke kills those two Mexican guys who called out his mom when he asked them for drugs using his poor Spanish.
Also Smoke makes last attempts to persuade Sweet to get into the crack game
@@SYDAirlineEnthusiast That's basically the running man mission
One big thing that jumped at me was how during the ordeal with russian mafia Big Smoke was constantly like "Come on CJ YOU SHOW THEM" and "That's my homie CJ" as if he wanted the russian mafia to know that it was CJ who killed so many of them
Reason 13; he is voice acted by Clifton Powell.
If you are outside the black community; and you don't see a lot of street movies.
Clifton Powell is always the bad guy in movies, he never plays a friendly character to the hero.
Clifton Powell is like Christopher Lee; if you see Christopher Lee in a movie 90%; you know by instinct he is going to be the main bad guy or someone hostile to the hero.
But Dr Lee is always a good guy funny enough
Facts Menace 2 society, Dead Presidents etc. he definitely is lol
But he played pinky in the Friday movies
I knew I couldn’t trust him when he was yelling at me about following the damn train, when the real reason we kept failing is because he couldn’t aim worth a shit

man when big smoke said " everybody here is my cousin " was the best information that Big Smoke was gonna betray him
Yup, he also refers to drugs as his cousin, his cousin MJ (Marijuana), and when going to kill the Russians he says the ruskies laid off his cousin fresh of the boat (which probably means the russians messed up his drug operation)
Ryder was in on it since the start. The San Andres introduction confirms he was a traitor early on when big smoke tells him about betraying sweet .
I want to make a video about this ultimately discussing it and how it was just not written very clearly to show this and the beta Missions cut audio files
Ryder wasn’t meant to betray them if I remember correctly the actor who voices Ryder had a disagreement with the producers of GTA and he was cut

Big Smoke's initials are literally "BS"
I'm confused. I keep seeing this. What is the initial BS supposed to mean?
@@Steve-yn3csbullshit is what people normally refer to as bs. However, big smoke is just a nickname and not his real name.

@@kaizoku8087 Oh. Bullshit. I get it now.
He had already betrayed them BEFORE CJ’s return
Most genius and hilarious part about that drive by mission with big smokes order. Is that at the end of the mission , Ryder gets pissed off cuz Smoke ate all ryders fries. Confirming that not only did he eat HIS WHOLE ORDER! But he also was eating Ryders too😭😭. So its the perfect alibi to not shoot back because he legitimately did wanna eat. But he also needed an excuse to not shoot😂
"If you can eat your food while everyone else is losing theirs, you straight".
If that isn't the most selfish, honest quote then I don't what is.
The most iconic early sign from Big Smoke betrayal was asking CJ that all he had to do was follow the damn train XD
😂😂😂
I remember that mission...I don't think he was asking us 😂
Exactly! The train mission is proof BS wasn't on our side 😂

GTA SA is my most fav GTA ever. But one thing I never understand, Smoke supports the Ballas and never attacks them but we see him kill Vagos members in Running Dog and Wrong Side of the Track, we see he doesn't like Vagos much but then why do Vagos aid him in the final mission along side the Ballas. Ikr Vagos are the 2nd biggest rivals to GSF after Ballas (while main rivals of Aztecas) but Smoke wasn't in friendly terms with them and their main leader Big Poppa got killed in a home in the hills when we take over Madd Dog's mansion....
in my mind , smoke became so powerful after exiling cj from los santos and making sweet to be in jail. he was so powerful that vagos could not resist allying with him even though they have a rift between each other . but to be honest , this may happen in real life too ,right? we wont like some people . but they end up being our ally or boss because they are more powerful and influential .
@@The_unknown_legend1409 That explains a lot, that could indeed be case, also given his main Drug factory was in San Fierro he also made alliance with the Rifa gang there.
@@nawazeeshali4340 San Fierro Rifa, Russian Mafia, Los Santos Vagos and The Ballas all operate under Big Smoke the Kingpin of Crack Cocaine epidemic in San Andreas.
In this big smoke line "People got to open their eyes and hearts Cj" and this line is what made me knew that he will possibly going to betray them.
For me, it was this and also when Sweet wanted to eliminate drug dealing within Grove Street, Big Smoke replied with “You can’t knock another man’s hustle” or something along those lines.
@@TrainMaster5097yea I remember that
BS tried to whack CJ in every mission every mission was an enemy meetup
The first one yes. In wrong side of the tracks and the Russian mafia bike getaway mission the enemies try to kill smoke as well as CJ
@@arthurmorgan8529 on smokes orders they miss smoke on purpose to whack cj
The biggest sign was the entire Wrong Side of the Tracks mission
All you had to do was follow the dam train CJ - spoken like a true traitor who won't shoot straight deliberately
Big smoke was ordering for the car, thats why his order was so long. He ordered everything everyone else wanted then added a few things for him self. The two number 9's were for Carl and Ryder then a number 6 with xtra dip for sweet. Big smoke got a number 9 large, number 7, and the two 45's.
Granted that doesnt affect wether or not he ordered the 3 extra meals to buy time for a drive by.
that's true, I always thought that it was ridiculous for Smoke ordering the exact same number that CJ, Sweet and Ryder ordered, 90% of GTA SA fanbase misunderstood this unfortunately
@@bustasmoke I always thought it was weird everyone got confused considering CJ said "Get me a number 9, FATBOY" directed at smoke.
Party pooper
lol, each of them said ''I'll have....'', Big Smoke just had a big order for himself that included the other guys's numbers
@@dorinmelnic6001 yeah they were telling big smoke what they wanted him to order for them. Again Cj said "I'll have a number 9, Fatboy" in reference to smoke. They even all look at smoke and smoke is the one who pays and receives the entire order for the car. Big smoke ordered for the vehicle.
There was the comment when sweet says "no drugs ever made a gang tight" and big smoke says "i don't know man"
What about his initials - BS
It stands for Bull Shit
It would blow up if San Andreas did a remake
Since the definitive edition was so terrible that fans had to fix it for Rockstar I really hope they don't even bother
Big Smoke being overly friendly to CJ is any other sign of his betrayal. I’ve seen plenty of stories where a character was overly friendly and nice and it turned out they were the villian
yea like Gary in Bully
@@greeny987 I’ve never seen that. When I think of characters that were way too friendly and it turned out they were the antagonists I think of someone like Lotso from Toy Story 3, Big Smoke of course or Vicki Robinson from the original Parent Trap (1961)

Great video, but I think you may have forgotten that Ryder wasn’t originally meant to betray Grove Street.
Hey, I want to make a separate video on this soon:)
What Smoke did in the drive thru mission itself is a major sign.
Were I Smoke, I would have shot with purposefully bad aim to not give away that I was a traitor... not giving a damn was indeed highly sus
This just goes to show how great this game really is.
I'm still trying to figure out the connection between big smoke and the russians 🤔
Big Smokes missions are all about his drug dealing buisness (as said in the video none of the missions are in favor for the gang and just in favor for Big Smoke). The Russians tried to do a drug deal and Big Smoke wanted to crash it because its bad for his own buisness.
In the first Grove Street part of the story you have several different parts giving you the hints that the drugs harm the gang more than the benefits it brings for the gang. The most obvious story line is the Big Bear story line who is shadow of his past because he became a crack junkie. Another is Sweets attempts to clean his streets and the gang from drugs and reunite the Grove families and so on.
This ties into his connections to Tenpenny who corrupts/blackmail gang members for his own agenda. He uses the gang wars and drugs to keep the gangs down and busy with each other while keeping the crime rates high which would result in additonal police authority, funding and so on. Big Smoke in this occasation is a usefull idiot for the cops - as hinted through their presence at Big Smokes home (Tenpenny is also like the final boss you kill after you already killed Big Smoke). They feeding him with resources, informations or whatever to keep his buisness running for this goal.
So the possible connection between the Russians and Big Smoke could simply be that Tenpenny gave him the info in order to escalate another gang war between Grove Street and the Russians.
(Rockstar likely was inspired by stuff like the CIA running drug networks in black neighborhoods in the 90's, corrupt cops who push for high constant crime rates to fortify their power and the overall topic of the thin line between people controlling the drugs turning into the drugs controlling the people, since Rockstar likes to do this kind of political references in their ingame world)
@Philipp3022 oh wow thanks
this might be a stretch but the acronym for Big Smoke is BS and Smokes whole character is that he's a BullShitter :D
So, basically. Big Smoke waited for CJ to come so they could both go into the funeral.
'Use Google translate'
Spoken in the language needed to be translated lol
but why greet the guy you're waiting for with a baseball bat? are they going to play ball after the funeral or smth too?
Another sign, 0:50 he wasn’t anticipating Carl’s sorrow towards his mum
I've heard that Ryder's voice actor had some trouble during the development of Gta sa and that's why he had to quit voice acting the character. That's why his betrayal wasn't planned from the start, but more of an improvisation.
Ok, but you could also google it and see that the only actual evidence indicates it was just a combo of lazy writing and MC Eiht releasing 3 albums during the production of GTA San Andreas
@@thomaswillard6267 Also MC Eiht when finally asked said Rockstar just never contacted him for more voice work.
Everyone mistakes Big Smokes order for him ordering a lot, no, he orders for the entire car, hence why he orders what everyone asks and why he asks what everyone wants prior. I don't understand how so many people mistake it for him only ordering for himself
"All you had to do was follow the damn clues, CJ!"
Makes sense if he said it right before his dead
He Acutally wasnt waiting for sweet and its been disproved because sweet could have just shot smoke when he would see him and if he was gonna kill sweet he would kill cj as well.
If you remember, Ryder shouted - Its every man for themselves.
Another detail in "Reuniting the families" is Big Smoke saying that he is "a little bit exposed" in the beginning because he clearly knew that police would arrive soon.
0:43 why does the voice over completely match big smokes mouth words. Thats gotta be some real coincidence
Ryder could NOT be selling his homies because R* never actually planned to make from him a villain, maybe he could die early in game if not Voice Actor leaving from studio but he was most probably not suppose to be our enemy, probably all those lines with sub context with betraying CJ were suppose to be leading to something else, like he knew about Big Smoke being with Ballas but he got paid or he knew about it but Big Smoke warned him about killing his best friends so he was quiet whole time.
He was also quite mean to CJ
I know that the video has 12 hidden early signs but the first one made me questioning my life
But still a good video keep it like that 🔥
its mind blowing how clear the signs are but you just dont notice them while playing the game... masterpiece
In the Mission called "House party" all the Grove street families are there except big smoke and suddenly Ballas attack their home turf
In the Green Sabre mission you can see two ballas members. They was the two who killed CJ's mom
its funny on the drive thru mission chasing the ballas car sometimes some random ballas will shoot at them i remember laughing at it and saying you guys on the same team
I guess after so much time, we're going to accept the fact that the Ryder storyline was scrapped.
If they were going to shun him, maybe the best solution would have been to kill him off under the intersection, and not make such a terrible villain arc
I just realized that he says "got some money from my aunt" to moving out of Grove Street. BUT...
There's a mission where he takes CJ to pick up "his cousin Mary", only that Mary is a drug.
Mary doesn't make him the big money tho, Mary is only the daughter.
Who is Mary's mother then? Maybe the one that's behind the hood addiction? The one that got Smoke his house, that's closer to his business partners?
Honestly, if I was a RUclipsr talking about SA, I'd make a video based on this.
What’s funny is that he doesn’t get any Mary cause those two Mexican guys instead insult his mom after big smoke uses his poor Spanish at them and he has to kill them.
In 2003, I was reading a gaming magazine, about the new GTA, which would be San Andreas. The magazine had to edit out a screenshot, of one of the developers computers, who was working on finishing up the game.
Said screenshot, had "Smoke" NPC behavior, "Smoke" follower behavior, and Smoke "End Game Boss" behavior, with his model in the flak jacket, and armed with the auto shotgun. The magazine's first press run had to be delayed due to having to edit out the photo of the major game spoiling screenshot. A good buddy of mine had that gamepro[not sure if it was Gamepro or Electronic Gaming Monthly] magazine, selling it years ago for $3000 USD.
Good times. And no, I never spoiled anyone's fun by narcing on the screenshot. I simply pretended to be amazed the was the turncoat when the reveal happens.
FYI, Ryder wasn't supposed to be bad either, in fact another storyline was scrapped in which CJ frees Ryder from being framed by Tenpenny and Smoke.
I just discovered your channel last night and have been bingeing your videos. Great stuff man, really thought out and concise stuff.
Its good writing when they cleverly disguise a character by making them appear good for most of the game before revealing they’re not. Great video! I don’t think anyone on their first play through would ever suspect anything so to see these hidden clues and the foreshadowing is very interesting. Thank you for uploading!
Big smoke also moved away from grove, near ballas country
In gta sa catalina will go to liberty city with cluade from gta lll
I knew he was a baddie even in my first play through. Smoke was always disingenuous and two faced.
I think reuniting the families is when ryder flips. Big smoke probably took him off and told him the plan and showed him the value.
1) He was randomly in CJs House!
2)He moved right into the center of Ballas Turf lol 😂 come on now...
Big Smoke was ordering everyone food for them...his order wasnt long..notice how they all told him what they wanted before he starts ordering the food.
Big smoke did stay on the opps shit which always through me off as a kid 😂
Yeah that was certainly a sign when Smoke begun to talk about respect but wasn't it strange that Sweet was all indignant with that words but once Smoke said he was hungry Sweet suddenly was like:hell yeah man it's time to eat?
There is one more reference regarding his hat. In western movies usually the character who wears the black hat is usually the villain. This is a reccuring theme as we all know in RDR2 Micah is the villain but there they switched the hats as arthur was wearing the black one. It could've been considered too obvious as for why they switched the hats.
In og locs house party mission when ballas attack ryder goes away by saying he is calling smoke but he ram away😅😅
Yup facts
Ryder wasn't a betrayer to CJ because after the green sabre mission CJ doesn't mention of name ryder
Another thing the puzzled me is the fact the cops knew about CJ's arrival and chased down his taxi. I think Sweet told the gang that CJ was coming back, and words somehow got out to the cops. They knew the exact date and time CJ would be coming back. That might also be Smoke's doing.
You're missing the clue from the cutscene on Drive Thru where Big Smoke flaunts about preferring money and power over his own friends, foreshadowing his motive to betray the Grove at the ending of the game.
I like how he smash into the electric pole at 2:05 😂
Big smoke never scold cj for wreckless driving.
He's also ordering for the car, so he says Ryder, Cj, and sweets order as well.
So, out of all, he orders only 3 of the items, and the large soda are for him
Alternative title: Big Smoke's red flags 🚩
I wonder what's in those boxes in Big Smoke's garage!🤔
I feel like for Ryder it was a last minute decision to make him the antagonist but for Big Smoke it was planned since the beginning
I love your videos man...keep up with the flames 🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate it!!
"Same thing make us laugh, make us cry"
-Big smoke
When i played gta san andreas the first time i thought ryder, smoke, sweet and cj all lived together, but then i saw Big smoke‘s house was at Balla territory, which was suspicious
I know The Introduction is canon and is meant to be taken as such - but Ryder's betrayal was so badly implemented in-game. Pre-The Green Sabre there's basically no reason at all to suspect Ryder of being a traitor, but then all of a sudden he's put into The Green Sabre cutscene but is not even mentioned during or after the mission, all the way until a minor mention during Photo Opportunity, and then to his death in Pier 69. During Yay-ka boom boom, the ONLY canon mention of Ryder being a traitor was made by CJ and Cesar during the cutscene - and then after that, it was like Ryder never existed - he banishes from the game never to be mentioned again. Even the mission in where he's killed, Pier 69, seems to me created in DYOM but with voice-over - there's no elaborated cutscene or dialogue.
Of course the introduction is canon. That's because it was made after the game was already released.
The assumption is that the original script had Ryder either going to die sooner or be exiled, but it is never confirmed which way it was planned to be before the rewrite.
Apparently, Ryder's VA quit during production wich is why his character is abruptly cut out.

Big Smoke
Numbor 13
He was in the green car that killed carls mom
4:27 I love that you are subconsciously have to run over those Ballas
Okay two things dont make sense here.
Smoke wasnt hiding in the house to kill Sweet. Why would he try to do that with a baseball bat, and why even do it at the house at all, when he was apparently involved in the drive by at the funeral. Also, if he was planning to kill anybody at that house, he may as well have killed CJ with the bat right there, if he was planning on getting rid of him anyway. So there might be another reason for Smoke loitering around the house, maybe he tried to get rid off evidence for his involvement.
Second thing is the Cluckin Bell drive by. I dont think Smoke knew about it or tried to lure the gang into this. Why the hell would he plan a drive by on a car he's sitting in himself. It also looks like a random encounter in the sequence. He does refuse shooting though to spare his secret friends.
They really pissed Smokes death scene up the wall.
Everything that he had done wasn't nearly as bad as what Carl had done. They were the same, they both did whatever it took to make it out of the hole they were in.
Smokes last words should have been more than "I don't give a f*ck"
He deserved a better send off than that
The guy was always talking to cops.... The frame, can always be fixed, but constantly talking to cops seemed pretty fishy lol.
it would only be logical to assume big smoke is ordering for everyone, notice how the first half of the order matches everyone else and the second half is for himself which is where they look back at him with disbelief and disappointment
Sanandreas was such a good game that introduced the crack era into south central. Something about smoke screamed betrayal not shooting back in drive thru, never talking about what happened, and when they did the drive by on the ballas smoke had his head down and seemed sad.
Ryder betrayal seemed forced and not really seen coming except the always talking down on cj. Even his death scene seemed like put together and no real dialogue. All in all one of the best games ever played even till today.
Maybe Big Smoke called one of his Balla contacts from his cellphone (if he’s got one) and told them that they were going to the Bell’s drive-thru to wait for them to pull up and hit them there. Maybe when Skoke saw Trey’s car, he would’ve bolted from the back when the bullets started flying hoping everyone would get killed in there
It seems kinda odd how he’d be so nonchalant in the car during the getaway back to the Grove while being shot at and very likely stopping a bullet or 2 while being close to Sweet who would’ve been shot at
Who else played this game when they were a child?😊

This game have a special place in me, good old years
I feel like the first point wasn't a sign. If he was there to assassinate Sweet, he would have used a gun instead of a bat.
3:22 Isn't Smoke just ordering for everyone? What Smoke is saying includes everyone's orders + bunch of extras for him, so I think he's the one who is ordering. At the beginning, Smoke also says "Carl, what do you want?", indicating that he is the one placing the order
yes, but he takes a lot of time to order his own food btw
Big Smoke's initials are a dead giveaway: B.S.
For me, it was when he ordered *TWO* numba 45s
I know this is going to sound weird but I need this background music😭 its so catchy
another Thing that big smokes betrayal. That after you Finish Business, wrong side, og loc, and other missions for big smoke. he disappears and he wasn't heard until Reuniting the families mission. its kinda weird
