Great to see 'The Morning Fog' , ' Night of the Swallow' , 'Hammer Horror' , 'Symphony in Blue' and 'In Search of Peter Pan' being included. Some others that I would like to mention are 'Moving' , 'Blow Away', ' The Fog' , 'Never Be Mine' and 'Under The Ivy' ... Also 'Snowflake' , 'The Man With the Child in His Eyes', 'Wow' and ' Strange Phenomena ' . I'll better stop writing or I will be here for ever ! lol
Yeah so hard to have to leave out dongs like Moving and Never Be Mine and come to think of it at least a few dozen more. Kate Bush is a phenomenon, simply incredible.
Your lists have come up several times in searches for my favorite artists so I guess I need to subscribe now. I don't know if I could rank my favorite songs of Kate Bush, I love most of her work. I struggle more with her later stuff, though I still enjoy it and can recognize her brilliance. My favorites off the top of my head (in no particular order): 1.Love and Anger 2.Rocket's Tail 3.Sat in Your Lap 4.Running Up That Hill 5.Cloudbusting 6.Jig of Life 7.Waking the Witch (pretty much all of the Ninth Wave, I love the drowning concept as it's always been a huge fear of mine) 8.The Fog (speaking of) 9.Get Out of My House 10.Them Heavy People 11.Wuthering Heights -- The original version. There's a re-recorded vocal that you might or might not have heard. in an effort to reintroduce the song to the U.S. following the success of Running Up That Hill, they rushed out a compilation album in 1986 ridiculously titled "The Whole Story" (It's not widely available new, but not impossible to find; I'm "I-still-have-the-original-LP-I-purchased-in-1986-on-my-way-home-from-my-adult-job" years old). I'm guessing the re-record happened because Rolling Stone magazine called her original vocal performance "Minnie Mouse on Helium" so they thought a more mature vocal would appeal to Americans. Eh, it's still a good version but I prefer the original and even Pat Benatar's cover. 12.Experiment IV -- another commenter mentioned this one as well. It's also on "The Whole Story" and is a really creepy, wild fantasy about weaponizing music. Here's the video link, just in case you haven't heard it. ruclips.net/video/NTUcoR8_pyE/видео.html I love that you guys are willing to expand your musical horizons and tackle some of the older stuff. Take Care.
Just catching up on your two Kate Bush vids now. Great - thank you! One of my favorite Kate songs is "Experiment IV" which only appeared as a single and on her Best Of album called 'The Whole Story'. Check it out.

It's great to see the love for Love & Anger. That song is quite polarizing among her fans! Thanks for telling us about the Nada Surf cover, holy shit! Easily the best Kate cover I've ever heard. My list, in chronological order, that no one asked for: Oh to Be in Love, Breathing, Under the Ivy, The Big Sky, Experiment IV, Love and Anger, Never Be Mine, The Red Shoes, Moments of Pleasure, Sunset. I don't have favorites from Lionheart or The Dreaming because those albums are so tight, each song seems to be on the same level of quality with every other song.

Kate Bush is really split into two eras: before Hounds of Love and after. I always go back to the first era because what she did then was unlike anything I have ever heard or seen from a musical artist male or female. Some of her work was so incredibly weird and bizarre...and it all charted in the UK...insane lol But from The Sensual World on contains a lot of great emotional moments from her--but it's much slower and introspective. My Top 10: 10. Wild Man 9. Hello Earth 8. Houdini 7. Wuthering Heights (just for sounding like a Disney Princess from a fairy tale in real life lol---and reaching number 1 on the charts with it lmao) 6. Suspended in Gaffa 5. Get Out of My House 4. Breathing 3. Cloudbusting 2. Running Up That Hill 1. Leave it Open
My Top 10 was really hard to narrow down as I'm a huge Kate Bush fan. All my choices are from her first 5 albums. 1) Wuthering Heights 2) Hello Earth 3) Waking The Witch 4) All The Love 5) Night of The Swallow 6) Babooshka 7) Mother Stands For Comfort 8) L'Amour Looks Something Like You 9)Symphony In Blue 10) The Man With The Child In His Eyes. Honorable mentions for Never Be Mine (which can reduce me to tears) and Moving.
1. Running Up That Hill 2. Wuthering Heights 3. Babooshka 4. Moments of Pleasure 5. The Sensual World 6. Hounds of Love 7. Cloudbusting 8. And So is Love 9. Moments of Pleasure 10. Under the Ivy
1 - The Morning Fog 2 - Watching You Without Me 3 - Waking the Witch 4 - Delius 5 - The Dreaming 6 - There Goes a Tenner 7 - The Fog 8 - The Sensual World 9 - All We Ever Look For 10 - Them Heavy People
10. The Sensual World 9. Running Up That Hill 8. Babooshka 7. Moments of Pleasure 6. Wuthering Heights 5. Cloud busting 4. Suspended in Gaffa 3. There Goes a Tenner 2. Night of the Swallows 1. The Dreaming The Dreaming is the quintessential Kate Bush song. Layered. Strange/unfamiliar instruments. An important, critical theme. An expansive sound. A theatrical delivery. A persona. Call and response ("See the lights cut through the gaps in the land" and "Coming in with a golden light"). I love the song so much. Just a word about There Goes a Tenner. Like Bob Dylan in Tangled Up in Blue, the timing of the events is left deliberately ambiguous with past and present merging in the consciousness, but carefully looking at the lyrics suggests that the chorus "We're waiting," is the police asking about the money in the interrogation room, where she has been all along. This is backed up by "I've been here all day." So she's confusing the past, looking with trepidation on the upcoming event, the present, where she's been booked and is being interrogated versus the present when the crime is in progress, and then back to the far past, when money wasn't a problem (that "rich" windy weather). When she was carried by someone and money blew out of their pockets. The relationship was more important than the money blowing away, as they just watch as bill after bill sails away on the breeze. The ten shilling note (half a pound) puts the memory as before 1970, when the note was put out of circulation. That would put the "him" they used to vote for as possibly Harold Wilson, leader of the labour party, and given that the song was written during the Thatcher administration, you can find the motive for the crime. The safety net has been torn apart, and they are desperate. What was at first a lark from watching bank heist movies has become real and it's a real refection on the dismantling of the social safety net undertaken by the Thatcher administration. Another theme is trepidation about the future and (and memories about those feelings) as contrasted with a feeling of confidence in the future. That's a lot to pack into a two-and-a-half minute song, which I feel is brilliantly executed, even the Cockney accent she adopts, which fits as well because the lower classes would have suffered the most from the dismantling of the welfare state and the dole. Many were driven to crime. Packing an abundance of meaning into relatively few words and having the music be a participant in the delivery is a hallmark of Kate's genius. The Dreaming, as an album, has a strong sociopolitical undercurrent. It's about greed and hope, the haves and the have nots (There Goes a Tenner, Night of the Swallows) and the strain that not having puts on a relationship, and governments taking from the poor and oppressed (The Dreaming). It's about wanting and not achieving (Sat in Your Lap, Suspended in Gaffa). It's about trying to focus on what's important and the difficulty of doing that. It's about struggle and questioning your own belief systems. It's about being driven to make choices and sacrifices that you shouldn't have to make (Pull Out the Pin). In Leave It Open, Kate says "Harm is in us, but [we have the] power to arm [ourselves against it]." That power is love and belief. She sacrifices her relationships for her music (All the Love), but she understands that music is only what she does, not who she is. She wants to believe in humanity the way that Bess believed in Harry Houdini ("Rosabelle believe.") But she also can't let everyone in who wants a piece of her, which is where the album ends. Leave It Open and Get Out of My House end each side of the album, and they're two sides of the same coin. You have to let some things into your world, but it's difficult and frightening. Get Out of My House are your defenses. Leave It Open is being open to the world. Kate let the weirdness in, and God love her for it. Where to draw the line? That's the rub.
It was interesting to see your rankings, but I was surprised that no one had any tracks from her last three albums (The Red Shoes, Aerial, and 50 Words for Snow). In my opinion, some of her best work is on those albums - Moments of Pleasure, The Red Shoes, King of the Mountain, A Coral Room, Nocturne, Sunset, Joanni, How To Be Invisible, Wild Man, Among Angels
Good to see somebody likes her songs on The Dreaming, which I think is epic!! You'd probably have to be a Brit to get There Goes A Tenner. A top 10 from me is just too tough to contemplate, sorry guys. Somewhat surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for The Red Shoes. Probably her least off the wall work but Rubberband Girl, And So Is Love, Constellation of the Heart and Big Stripey Lie, and The Song of Solomon are awesome..... Oh, I'll come in a hurricane for you .... are you kidding me? And his right hand (his right hand) Doth embrace me .... Suggest you study that one a little more, lol!
The Man With the Child in His Eyes - 2 minutes and 52 seconds of pure magic. Just saying guys! :) Edit: How can a 13 year old come up with the line "I just took a trip on my love for him"...? It's insane!
1. This Woman’s Work 2. The Man With the Child in His Eyes 3. Cloudbusting 4. Breathing 5. Pi 6. Saxophone Song 7. King of the Mountain 8. Love and Anger 9. Running Up That Hill 10. The Sensual World

kate bush is definitely my favourite female artist.....she is criminally underrated. david gilmour discovered her in the 70s, and helped her with a record deal....... anyway i digress, top 10.. 10. the man with the child in his eyes 9. the sensual world 8. running up that hill 7. the dreaming (title track) 6. hounds of love (title track) 5. rubberband girl 4. and dream of sheep 3. breathing 2. wuthering heights 1. cloudbusting. glad to see breathing made it on one of yall's list. such a great song about nuclear fallout

I couldn’t rank them, but my top 10 at the moment are: Walk Straight Down the Middle; Under the Ivy; Be Kind to My Mistakes; Wuthering Heights; Night of the Swallow; Jig of Life; Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God); Hounds of Love; Lily; and Cloudbusting!
I was glad In Search of Peter Pan was mentioned. From her first album songs like Moving and The Kick Inside have a purity to them which is very impressive. And her second single The Man With The Child In His Eyes is such a classic 70s ballad, I thought that would be hard for all 3 people not to put it down. Wow was a great single too. And December Will Be Magic Again was only released as single so I don't know if that was considered here by all three.
1 under the ivy 2 all the songs on kick inside, hounds of love (under the ivy is unbelievably a b side on hounds extended version!!!) and 50 words for snow and Ariel....sry I'm rubbish at differentiation with songs if I love an artists albums....just don't ask me to do fave songs for Bowie or nick cave...I get similarly stumped...lol
01... Hounds of Love... 02... The Man With The Child In His Eyes... 03... Army Dreamers... 04... Cloudbusting... 05... The Saxaphone Song... 06... King Of The Mountain... 07... Delius... 08... This Womans Work... 09... Sunset... 10... Houdini....

This Woman's work Talking of British female singers with beautiful voices...are you guys familiar with Sandy Denny? She did 4 albums with the great Fairport Convention - late sixties/early seventies, then had a solo career in the seventies until her premature death in 1978. You probably are. Just a thought anyway.
10. Walk Straight Down the Middle 9. Get Out of My House 8. Rocket's Tail 7. Sunset 6. Fullhouse 5. Experiment IV 4. Jig of Life 3. Running Up That Hill 2. Babooshka 1. Lily (Director's Cut)
I think my possible least favorite song is actually in Jason’s list (“Deeper Understanding”). 😉 “Sat In Your Lap” is great, but my favorites on The Dreaming are probably the title track, “Pull Out The Pin”, “There Goes A Tenner” and “Get Out Of My House”. Of course the first 3 songs and “Cloudbusting” on Hounds Of Love are killer, and I’m also partial to “Wuthering Heights” and “Moving” on The Kick Inside, “Egypt” and “Babooshka” on Never For Ever, the last couple songs on Aerial, “Symphony In Blue” and “Wow” on Lionheart, and the title track and “Reaching Out” from The Sensual World.
I’m with Jason on her voice. I couldn’t make it through the iTunes samplers on a single complete album. One reviewer once wrote, paraphrasing,.... she sounds like an elf singing into a Hoover vacuum cleaner. Hard to listen to, though I readily admit her collaboration on Peter Gabriel’s So is one of the finest songs ever made on one of the finest albums made. It is stunningly good.

And so is love 10. And Dream Of Sheep I'm surprised no one has mentioned 'Moments of Pleasure' and 'The Man With The Child In His Eyes'. Such lovely songs.
Would put heavy people and kite in there somewhere. not much love for or the first album here? it was probably her second biggest in the UK. Mind the UK charts back then where a strange nonsensical place.
Im 52 and been obssesed with her since chilhood so Jason's perspective is kinda bizarre and interesting to me. But, hey, he has Love And Anger at number one, and that is very very very interesting and unexpected, which watching your Kate videos was very fun. That is one of my top favorite Kate songs. Didnt now about the Nada Surf version. Gonna go check that out rrrrrright now. Thnks

In Leave It Open, Kate says "Harm is in us, but [we have the] power to arm [ourselves against it]."
That power is love and belief.
I liked a lot of those. But I was probably so transfixed on the early albums that I may have shortchanged the later stuff. - Joe
And his right hand (his right hand)
Doth embrace me .... Suggest you study that one a little more, lol!
Cmon guys no "King of the Mountain" at all? Love the channel :)
Nothing conventional about "Night of the Swallow"
"Suspended in Gaffa" you are saved...
I think Ken should be a contender for any list. That was such a belter
Joe gets Kate. Sat in your lap is stunning. I am surprised that no one chose sensual world.
The Man With the Child in His Eyes - 2 minutes and 52 seconds of pure magic. Just saying guys! :)
Edit: How can a 13 year old come up with the line "I just took a trip on my love for him"...? It's insane!
It’s impossible to pick just 10. - Joe

Can't believe so many people do not have The Man with the Child in his Eyes in their Top 10.
Good list, need to think about this guys. Anyone hear Placebos version of "Running Up That Hill"? "Suspended In Gaffa" reminds me of Bowie.
Placebo’s version is a little slowww for me. I haven’t heard too many great cover songs other than Maxwell’s This Woman’s Work.
@@TastesLikeMusic I love Placebo's version!
I missed that one on our initial listen through and I was not familiar with any of her non-album stuff unfortunately. - Joe
1 under the ivy
2 all the songs on kick inside, hounds of love (under the ivy is unbelievably a b side on hounds extended version!!!) and 50 words for snow and Ariel....sry I'm rubbish at differentiation with songs if I love an artists albums....just don't ask me to do fave songs for Bowie or nick cave...I get similarly stumped...lol

Talking of British female singers with beautiful voices...are you guys familiar with Sandy Denny? She did 4 albums with the great Fairport Convention - late sixties/early seventies, then had a solo career in the seventies until her premature death in 1978. You probably are. Just a thought anyway.

Favourite Kate Bush is Get out of my House.
Great song. - Joe
Booooooooooo. - Joe

Good lists, but no love for Moments of Pleasure? The lyrics alone...
It’s a fine song. I prefer the crazy gothic/theatrical stuff myself. - Joe
Moments of Pleasure' is easily my favourite from that album.
what about " James and the Cold gun? " Also agree that the man with child in his eyes is a top ten cert.

Kate Bush.
Todd Rundgren, New York Dolls, Carole King, Iron Maiden, Devo -Jason
1. Where are the lionhearts. 2. Organic acid. You'll find these on RUclips. No idea why these two songs are not on any of her albums.
I'm with Jason - the earlier higher pitched stuff doesn't appeal to me.
No thumbs up for you. - Joe
Were cloudbusting Daddy!
Would put heavy people and kite in there somewhere. not much love for or the first album here? it was probably her second biggest in the UK. Mind the UK charts back then where a strange nonsensical place.
Jason is an Idiot T Shirt, when ???
Just kidding, this was fun...
