The View From Halfway Down should be recognized much more than it is. The View From Halfway Down and Free Churro (the episode where Bojack monologues at his mother’s funeral) are some of the greatest moments of beauty and devastation in any art of any medium.
@@DanMAD For me with Rick and Morty it was the last line of the last episode of Season 4. “Holy shit I’m a terrible father.” For some reason hearing Rick ACKNOWLEDGE his biggest mistake with Beth and feeling enough shame not even be able to face the family was kind of a mind blower for me due to Ricks psychopathic sense of narcissism. It was a very human moment for him. He cloned his daughters to keep them close to home (in a literal and figurative sense) and ended up losing them both.

The view from halfway down poem isn't just what Is being read, it's the whole performance. Herb intervening, him panicking. It's all part of the poem and is so real
I've seen some folks talk about how the poem "The View from Halfway Down" switches from 3rd person to 2nd person to 1st person and how that's representative of a countdown to the end, but I think it also reiterates the point that you made about Todd's speech to BoJack too. BoJack always wants to blame everyone else for his problems and remove all responsibility from himself. But in these last fleeting seconds of Secreteriat's/BoJack's experience, he can't point to "him" or "you" anymore, because there's finally that realization that the weight of his choice and his actions are all his own. He can't distance himself from that anymore, and that's why the final part is all in 1st person.
Ya definitely gotta up the volume on those movie/show clips. Couldn’t hear a word from the movie clips. Other than that, I enjoyed listening to your commentary.

I agree on that take that BoJack Horseman as a TV show is an experience, since the first season back in 2014 (in a time where the adult cartoon tv shows were just adult swims random cuts and the whole "absurd humor" overall was declining) all the way through early 2020 where the show has ended, I grew up so much. Usually one can say they grew up watching a TV show referring to the childhood, but in my case, I was finishing college and getting through the adult life experience and relationships, and the show was so real and human, the subjects that it touches and the viewpoint that it gives to the audience are very valuable. So I can say I grew up with all the characters, the harmony that it is shown between characters through seasons it's outstanding.
Love this take. You got two of them, but I would have included how the use of an f-bomb is limited to one per season, usually after Bojack does something unforgivable to someone else. There's plenty of cursing in the show, but the f-bomb brings extra punch to each gut-wrenching scene.

Bruh that is so true, Bojack is such a powerfull character and an very intresting one as well. I think that when the series espesially just becomes amazing is at the last three seasons when Bojack and the people around him get actually real. And i am honestly sook that someone could do, this good of a job putting the whole storyline together in such a beatifull way to watch. If I can be beautifully honest as a critique . The comparison of Christoph vs Farmer to Bojacks inner turmoil of trying to do good seems like a comparison made to sound like what you’d expect to hear in a film essay type video. I wouldn’t think to comment it but the whole Inglorious Basterds segment, but the fact it took up such a portion of the video- in my opinion just seems like a really flashy way to introduce the fact that yeah, Bojacks destructive ways get in his own way. Don’t quite see the connection beyond that sentence. Don’t really believe it’s necessary to get deep in the characters of this classically suspenseful scene. I hope I’m not sounding rude, commenting to actually be constructive. I’m in the middle of it still but it’s still a gripping video so far.
