- This episode was so good! I loved seeing more of the fights and how the different mages use their magic. Glasses guy's magic was definitely my favourite, so cool! Also really liked learning more about Wirbel, his past and what kinda character he is. Can't wait to see Frieren fight next episode!

Huh, I never noticed it before, but last episode Ehre described fighting Fern as being like fighting her grandfather, which I assumed was an insult, but this episode she mentions her grandpa being a first-class mage so maybe it was actually a major compliment
I'd say it's more of an observation. Fern quite literally fights using an outdated style. Because Frieren taught her that outdated style. The philosophy of Frieren revealed in the last episode being 'this is already enough to defeat mages of this era'

Wirbel said the demon attacks increased exactly 29 years ago. That coincides with Himmel's death. There has to be some significance of that.
Yeah, they also had confirmed previously that Aura returned 29 years ago too (either her or her powers, I don't remember exactly which was).

If you notice a detail when Richter said Serie's name, Frieren narrowed her eyes. That indicates she knows or has some connection to Serie. Can't wait to see anime onlys reaction to the next ep. It's gonna be lit.
I didn't notice!! That'd be so interesting if they know each other from before considering how long Frieren and I assume Serie have lived!
About the proctors discussion it was referring to Sense telling Genau that he made a difficult test resulting in test takers being killed by other test takers and the Geisel (big bird creatures)

Even this first test proctor Genau was bit brutal in his method, but I'm kind of agree with him, that the purpose of this test was to determine if these candidates could perform what the First-Class Mage would do, like he said, "no promising test taker would die from this."
Yeah I guess he has a point but stillll, did he have to make it deadly? I hope round 2 isn't as dangerous but then it's the second round so I'd expect it to be even more so
While true, I think his methods miss a crucial point; just because they're not up to the task today doesn't mean that they couldn't reach first class proficiency in the future had they not been killed. Given the low population of mages in this era, it seems like a waste to kill off mages already at a proficient level in their very first trial.
@@jaesaces while true, every mage also enters this exam knowing they may die. Nothing forces them to do the exam (at least usually).
@@Ryodraco Oh, it's definitely a risk, but without taking the exam it's hard to evaluate how risky it truly is to them. And Genau's test specifically does not allow an individual to quit due to the barrier. Worse yet, giving up and hiding is also not an option, since your teammates would likely make you participate by force.
Gotta love the fact that demons are actually acting like an "actual" Demons by using kids and women for war
Probably also other humans considering the situation might be too chaotic that some bad guys might took advantage like becoming bandit lords or sth, and forcing civilian to fight for them.
The ones who used children for war in this instance was another human. Since he said between nations and I doubt he'd refer to the demon army like that

Wirbel mentioned the children when he talked about political wars, so the ones sending the children were quite definitively not demons in race at least lol
The comparison to the Chunin Exam in Naruto is that one of the exams was set in a forest, literally called the Forest of Death, where teams had to steal a scroll from a different team before making it to a final destination.

(I'm a manga reader and currently on the latest chapter) What a lovely episode I really did love all of the interesting discussion and interaction in it. Like some of the guys where not cold hearted dudes especially Wirbel and Denken. As Wirbel seems like he could be a psycho but he is actually a sweetheart deep down. Just fighting demons and protecting the northern lands so that his old love interest. Could one day return to him as her family moved away out of security concerns. But he still is able to kill anyone including women and children if he really needs too. Which makes his morality so much more complex. Also seeing how the northern lands sometimes use child soldiers was pretty brutal. Then we had Denken who As he deemed that unnecessary unlike his teammate. He thought that just putting them under a sleep spell would be enough. So despite Denken seeming very cold and calculating he still care about the life of other people and Denken is the best characters so far in Frieren season you guys will love that Old man
But then I also loved seeing the magic used in this episode as well. Like how Fern overwhelmed Ehme with her magical blasts until she could not take it anymore. And Land don't sleep on that man he's the Goat and I don't want to spoil anything but Land is not there on the entire examination he's in his home town chilling having tea while his clone do all the work 💀. That's First class mage potential right there and also Übel she's a beast but cares about land very much.
Feel the same way and can't wait to see what's to come!

Fern showing that she's stronger than the last time we have seen her really in action in episode 9 and let's us know that Frieren is still training her. Wirbel was so stupid by revealing his technique by saying he has to look at the object in his vision to activate the spell.
You're right, love to see the continuous progression! Yeah Wirbel kinda messed up haha
I was expecting it to be a flashy battle between mages this time.
I was especially looking forward to the battles between Fern and Ehre or Wirbel groups, and between Frieren and denken groups.
But it's a little different, and it looks like it's going to get more intense in the future.
Having Fern say that Ehre is the strongest in Wirbel's group, and then defeating Ehre with just general attack magic, Fern is definitely superior. He is, as expected, a disciple of Frieren.
Anyway, I thought Wirbel was a guy who was fixated on fighting, but surprisingly, he was kind to his friends.
Wirbel is a pretty nice guy.
And, although it was just an introduction, an elf named Serie finally appeared.

Depends on how Fern defines strongest. It could simply be related to mana. But as Ehre said, Wirbel would kill Fern (and herself). Fern's only chance is a sneak attack, if that fails she's done for.
Serie would straight up demolish Frieren and she knows it as well, they ain't fighting
