  • Paul Hogan wasn't the only person the 1986 surprise hit "Crocodile Dundee" launched to stardom. The Australian actor's American co-lead, Linda Kozlowski, likewise catapulted from relative obscurity to the national spotlight with the help of that low-budget comedy.
    The acting duo became so inseparable from one another that not only did they go on to star in two more "Crocodile Dundee" films, they also got married. Unfortunately, their greatest success also turned out to be their biggest stumbling block, with neither actor able to escape the gravitational pull of the franchise and break out successfully into new roles. So where is Linda Koslowski now? Let's find out what really happened to this "Crocodile Dundee" star.

    Her performance (in the first DUNDEE at least), was absolutely breathtaking. The nuance that she brought to that role was incredible. We can see her initially regarding this man as a boastful, toxic male that is purely the subject of a story; then we can read her gradual attraction to this rugged man, we can see doubt, we can see hesitation, and by that last sequence with the stunning soundtrack crescendo, we can see the love in her eyes.
    There is a final shot of her face just as Mick grips a pylon to walk to her across the people, and we can clearly see how much she loves him; ALSO - Mick is getting to her in his own inimitable way, and we can see it register on her face, "Of COURSE that's how Mick would get to me!"
    It's an amazing performance.
    Sharon Stone made her bones in BASIC INSTINCT (1992) long after DUNDEE (1986), but Linda should have been in Stone's shoes by the time 1992 hit, as a known bombshell. She says she "turned down" many roles. Well, that's bad advice from her agent, or bad decisions on her part - so you're playing some funny guy's girlfriend? - that's how you build a career. And then the meaty roles would come along in between the comedies.
    She got her-SELF typecast by not accepting anything else. A tragedy. She coulda been a contender...

    "Both stars were virtual unknowns before 'Dundee?"' No! Not at all! Paul Hogan was already a huge star - both in Australia - and, increasingly worldwide, due to his long-running hit TV sketch show - and advertising cameos promoting Fosters beer. And the "Crocodile Dundee" films were built on his long-established image of a quintessential "typical" Australian (rather like "Barry Mackenzie"), being essentially, "Paul Hogan - the Movie!" These tatty RUclips celebrity profiles, made to sound "authoritative" by people with clearly limited personal knowledge of their subject or experience, are often anything but "authoritative!"

  • @douglasjackson5007
    @douglasjackson5007 2 года назад +33

    Thanks for this as I have sometimes wondered what happened with Linda Kozlowski. Watching her in the Crocodile movies, I had a sense she wasn't acting - that she was just being herself. That, to me, is the hallmark of a fine actor. I felt much the same way about Kathryn Hepburn when I saw her alongside Cary Grant in the 1938 film 'Holiday'.

    • @skaruts
      @skaruts Год назад +1

      If an actor is merely himself, then all his characters will look and sound the same. That's not the hallmark of a fine actor, it's the hallmark of an actor that doesn't ACT.
      (I'm not saying Linda didn't do a great job in Dundee, though. I just completely disagree with your statement about acting.)

    I always felt that the affair between Paul and Linda, leading to him divorcing his wife with 5 kids, tarnished the charm of the whole CROCODILE DUNDEE franchise with Linda tagged as a mercenary homewrecker. She obviously got some bad career advice thinking that she could "turn down lots of stuff where I'd play the girlfriend of some funny man." 90% of actresses get cast in roles playing the girlfriend of some leading man, or the girlfriend of the leading man's sidekick, or the girlfriend of the leading man's archrival. That's Hollywood.

      There was a special attraction between Linda and Paul that came through making the 1st movie great and the 2nd pretty good as well. That kind of attraction and love can't be denied. Linda should have picked up another side role as the girlfriend, then gone after a terror thrlller or such next. She had the acting chops, but she had that pretty woman image that didn't lend itself to other roles, without a shock script. Hogan's Dundee character was so compelling; Saloane would have never made it up the line, the way he did, without returning to Rocky, or his breakout with First Blood. Linda's character role in CD was perfectly scripted and well played. To turn that out another time, would be tough.

    Linda Koslowski was and still is a very beautiful and sexy woman. I always thought she was a very extremely talented and very good actress in fact one of the best I have seen. The fact that Hollywood treated her badly in terms of not giving her a far more successful career than she had shows what Hollywood is about. I am not surprised after working so hard to become a very good and professional actress she was not given the glorious career she deserved she should have gone on and won a lot of best actress awards and nominations I am sure she was that good in my opinnion. Its a loss to the movie world that she did not make it or rather denied by the Hollywood hacks. She only did one good movie a horror movie called village of the damned with Christopher Reeve in the 1990s and that was it. She was excellent in it. I am gutted she did not get the career she deserved. How many great movies with Linda in it as lead role have we missed as movie fans since the 1980s, all because Hollywood had less talented casting directors who did not see her potential. I am not surprised she became disillusioned with Hollywood and left Los Angeles in the 2000s after decades living there in a nice large house living off the success of Crocodile Dundee. She also is a very tough, fearless lady. I don't think any situation or crisis would phase her. All I can say is any man who gets this gorgeous delightful woman in their lives is a very lucky man indeed. Linda Koslowski I love you. I really wish I had seen you or met you. She is the sought of woman you want to meet in your life. Oh well I can watch the movies she is in to appreciate this glorious woman is probably the closest I will ever get to her. I wish I could meet woman like that in my life. I wish you all the best Linda Koslowski I love you.

      Women have always been second to the man in careers and the problem here is that the fame went to her head and she thought she was worth more. Nobody is indispensable and only established big stars can get away w turning down work once in awhile to try to keep their careers on track. Someone who may have talent, who gets a boon w one major role opposite a star, doesnt have the luxury of picking roles.

      I feel for you...acting must be an uncertain profession, and therefore very stressful. The few who "make it" in a big series or movies are pretty well set, but I suspect the vast majority of actors/actresses wait in anticipation for the casting call abd call backs. I have great admiration for actors and actresses, especially in modern times. I've "watched" from the golden era of 50's & 60's, and acting has only gotten better, along with writing and production. All the best to you.

I come across situations described like that, in my own life experience, in my view it may well work out for so many years, or certain length of time. But in my view, Hogan is probably better without her, hopefully finding some one with more things in common with his own personality. Good compatability is very important in life. With a bit of luck Hogan will find that compatability with someone new
