There are female space marines, their called Sisters of Battle. “BuT tHeIr NoT tHe SaMe” It’s almost like males & females are different physically. The Sisters are one of the coolest faction in the Imperium because of how over the top & fanatical they are.
I know, I love them.
They're not really comparable as space marines would walk all over them like wet paper, but that's due to the fact the marines have excessive enhancements. Still, the Sisters of Battle are legit badass and have literal angels within their ranks. But that's probably why these people hate them. They dislike all things religion, which means they must innately hate the Sisters.
Well real world doesnt have to aply to fictional universe, like in Halo Spartan woman are as capable and deadpy as man due to agumentations working that way, but in 40k I like sisters of battle because unlike space marine pure brawn and superhuman capabilities sisters are more of clerics/paladins, crazy zealots who have more faith and courage than most space marines and can spontanuously combust into living saints in the middle of the battle, also most faithful can manifest straight up miracles from the emperor and turn the tide of battle, they are also very stylish for warriors in full plate powerarmor
@krsmanjovanovic8607 Male Spartans outclass their female counterparts except for a few rare exceptions. Multiplayer isn't canon and doesn't count, and the Spartan 4s are really just ODST in better armor.
As for the sisters they are NOT more faithful or curageous, rather it's more or less even. And very few can become saints in battle, basically their equivalent of Terminators and Primarchs.
As for miracles? A lone space marine can, will, and has, turned the tide of a battle in favor of the Emperor's legions many times. Sorry, but as badass as the Sisters are, they don't hold a candle to space marines lorewise. I say this even as the Sisters are my favorite faction.

Why are there no males in the Adeptus Soritas? The Sisters of battle have a huge lack of diversity in their group... Sisters of Silence also, Harlequins and so on and so on. Seems these groups are rather sexist to not include men.

I JUST started getting into 40k, and the first thing I hear from GW is they don't care about the lore. Which, as a writer myself, is sacrilegious. Pre-established lore is the ONE thing you should NEVER violate, because everyone will notice and demand a *satisfactory* explanation. There are plenty of times I've come up with JUICY twists or plot ideas, but ended up shelving them or adding them to the 'What-If' section because they just didn't make sense or violated lore, character personality or some other reason, like derailing the plot or overly complicating the conclusion.
Do not violate the lore for theoretical reasons without adequate justification. Nerds, lore mongers and writers will notice and call you out.

You definitely don’t know anything about the setting. Warhammer has never had concrete lore, the lore is purposefully made vague in order to expand it in the future. It’s easy to say don’t mess with the lore when you’re the only writer. But 40k has never had one writer. In order for the setting to last multiple years and still feel fresh and interesting the lore changing is not only inevitable it’s a must
Thing is, it's likely they are in a contract with Amazon after Amazon bought rights to make a movie. Depending on how much Amazon bought those rights for and contract details, GW might be stuck making changes for Amazon as it would be cheaper than trying to get out of the contract and likely getting sued by Amazon for some shit by trying to stand their ground. Could easily cost them more than what Amazon paid them. Won't really know until we can see the full contract details, which is likely under NDA still.

Black carapace doesn't work on ladies. The Emperor's DNA is what made the Primarchs. The Custodes are always men as stated in the lore. And there are plenty of women in 40k, some being incredibly strong and incredibly cool. You got the Sisters of Silence, Nulls, awesome, you got the Adeptus Sororitas, you have all the women in the Imperial Guard including hella tough Catachan fighters. There's plenty of Rogue Traders and Inquistors who are female.

Games Workshop is disconnected from its audience many years now, it's only now they got the ESG deal and made it obvious. I personally dont quite care, mostly because the writers always wanted to have females custodes and that the emperor is always seen as whatever that person believes the Emperor to be so I suppose a woman wouldn't exactly be out of the question, besides the space marines are still only male, they weren't specifically crafted by the Emperor. The point of a custodes after all is pushing the human body to the limit of what it could be, not only the male body. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and start a discussion on this further if you are, Endymion
At this point I utterly shun EVERYTHING that is remotely modern. I dont play new games, dont watch new movies, dont listen to new music. I was born in the 90's. Experienced life when our society was slightly worth caring about. I emulate things from then, and preferably before. My life is great since making this revelation.
I'm only a very casual WH40K video game fan, so from a mostly outside view, the problem with this female Custode issue, is that it's specifically something being demanded externally for "current" real world social politics, and not for the improvement of the lore or expansion of the game, as previous retcons have been. Serious and longtime fans have every right to be angry about it.
There are 3 problems with female Custodes.
1. it is not about male vs female but stupid politics that wrecks everything, so yeah, outside forces affecting the lore.
2. It breaks the continuum as there are many places explicitly calling them the sons of the emperor, and saying they are the sons of nobles in Terra, breaking the lore.
3. We already have a female equivalent to the Custodes! We have the Sisters of Silence, so why should we add female Custodes at this point?
Considering how loyal fans are, how expensive minis are, and how much dedication is necessary to paint, assemble, and prepare the units, is clear GW shot their own foot. I cannot understand how companies hadn't figured out Wokeness does not increase sales, but rather make losses for alienating the true clients.
It's not about creating sales, it's about pandering and doing what their money-masters who dole out the ESG loans tell them to do. When Blackrock and Vanguard tell GW, "Do this thing, NOW, slave." - GW, knowing how much investor money they'll lose if they don't, which will crater their business, simply bend the knee, close their eyes, kiss the ring, and say, "Yes master."

With regard to The Emperor specifically, I think any argument aiming to hard define characteristics, motives or pretty much anything about Him serve only to reflect the internal perspective of individual making the judgements. They are projections, externalizations of self, and that is what they define. People argue over this stuff because they seek evidence to back up their internal reality - and I include all 'sides' in this, even my own personal biases/inner 'fan narratives' - about who and what The Emperor is, or is not. These arguments miss the point entirely. Consider why the concept of divinity and The Emperor as a god; there is a good reason that this idea is so hotly contested as a foundational aspect of the lore, a contest of ideology between people across the Imperium, from baseline humans all the way up to the Primarchs themselves. The reason is: The Emperor is un-knowable. So great is His power, His legend, His experience, His knowledge; so far beyond anything comprehensible or definable in terms relevant to any other human being, that even the Primarchs can only begin to speculate, and then just barely. As is discussed in the lore repeatedly, so god-like is his capability that arguments for or against notions of divinity are essentially meaningless, as are attempts to define Him or understand His motives or limits, if such exist. The Emperor certainly demonstrates how concerned he is about anyone's opinion of His gender, His life story, His agenda, any concerns of mortal life, or even concern for mortal lives at all; which is to say, he has none. He uses anything and everything he can as means toward and end only He knows and while may at times APPEAR to express mortal-like concerns or emotions, His appearance(s) are always in the interest of His designs and he spends mortal lives as freely as a star consumes hydrogen atoms. Unknowable as He is, The Emperor can only really serve as a mirror, onto which we project and in which we see, ourselves. I believe Dan Abnett says something more or less to this effect in his post-script notes at the back of The End and the Death regarding the way The Emperor is never portrayed in the first person in narrative, rather only through the perspectives of other beings as they observe or reflect upon experiences/memories of Him.
In short, claiming The Emperor is gender-queer is pointless except as a way to indirectly declare one's self aloud; likewise, to argue that He is not, is equally so. The bigger issue is why we're all letting ourselves be consumed and enraged by things like identity politics and divisive tactics while the survival of the human species is kind of at stake and what we really need is to see ourselves IN EACH OTHER and come together - otherwise there probably won't be any more humans left in the alarmingly near future and none of it will matter anyway :P

The thing is that the lore has always been retconned to hell and back. Just compare OG Necron and Eldar lore to the current itteration. Or Squats to Votann lore. They've retconned entire races from the ground up before many, many times.
Of course the Custodes change sucks, as does any retcon, but the non-40k people only giving a shit about this small change in particular are nothing more than grifters.

@@Zakading Dunno man, I remembered reading Necron from 3rd Edition onward (don't collect (too expensive) but love the lore) and the changes look more like a picture becoming clearer and clearer. From vague to more detailed. Whatever change was more like "filling in" the blanks.

@@nemo0036 Necrons started out as Chaos Cyborgs, then turned into mindless, soulless, personalityless alien killer robots and now are the ancient space-egyptian rivals of the Eldar (who never mentioned them in any of their previous lore up until that point) and slayers of the Old Ones, with distinct, often downright comedic, personalities for each of their leaders and existing only to prepare for the inevitable final war against Chaos. All 3 of these are completely different from one another and their current role in the setting is basically the complete opposite of what they were originally.
The best thing we can do, is for some of us to create things with a focus on never capitulating to the woke mob, those of us who will not create ourselves should support those that do, and all of us can vote with our money, and boycott those that do this nonsense.
