When I see these living conditions in these war torn countries and how they still smile and laugh and love n stick together literally makes me realize that this money I’m chasing isn’t the most important thing to my happiness. I am surprised at the number of people who speak good English, and how even though everything is ramshackle and rundown, it is still very clean. It says a lot about how much the Somaliland people value education and community.
A lot of people are also from the UK with Somali heritage probably visiting their home country
We were part of the British empire up until the 60s and some of our words are still english just slightly changed
They are mostly guys who left the country very young or was born in the west and decided to go back, that’s why their Somali speaking skills are lacking if a native were to listen
We were colonised by the British in the north, colonised by the Italians in the south, and djibouti was colonised by the French. Somalia used to be one of the top 3 countries in the continent until we went into war, it’s really sad.

With my job, we work with a lot of Somali clients. They are some of the friendliest, most genuine people I have ever met, and I am always impressed by how strongly-linked their communities are. Thank you sister. We tend to be very isolated ppl and only feel comfortable with our own people. We tend to create our own bubble and enjoy it a lot and if ppl come inside it, we welcome them with honey just like a colony of bees 🐝 we are good giving honey but we also sting the intruders lol 😂
