@@RatsKingdomyou are objectively wrong. He may not be your favorite, but he is undoubtedly one of the best in the past 20 years. It’s not a legitimate or respectable position to argue the opposite.
He's really good Ive really come to like him and he does a lot of guns stuff real justice but I like him singing his own stuff with Slash better... fantastic music... this one doesn't hit quite as well but again I really like Myles
Myles Kennedy is so awesome! This live version was doubly tough for him, because the high ‘screechy’ bits are sung to sound more like Axl’s version than the way Myles normally can hit high notes clean - without vocal fry. Further, he had to hold back at the same time, so as, not to overwhelm the acoustic guitar and the intimate setting (which he can easily do). Guy is amazing! *Obviously, check out more Alterbridge where his voice really soars, but also - he has a great solo career in different styles where he plays all the guitar. A great acoustic guitar (and occasional mandolin and lapsteel) album he did is called Year of the Tiger ! Absolutely incredible Americana style ode to his deceased father and strength of his mother! His new one ‘Art of Letting Go’ is more 80’s and 90’s electric rock style - with inspiration nods to Chris Cornell and his buddy Ian Thornley - and also quite excellent! Cheers!👍
Yeah I was surprised by the trouble he had around 10.30 mark. As you say though, with an acoustic version everything is raw and exposed adding to the difficulty at those higher notes.
Michael, you need to look up videos of Alter Bridge playing Burn It Down live from their last tour. Mark Tremonti takes over lead vocals for the song and Myles Kennedy improvs the solo differently for each performance. I think I posted one on GuitarGate a while back, definitely worth checking out to see Myles' guitar chops
Myles Kennedy and his band Alter Bridge are the best rock band of this century. Slash is a great guitarist and he did great to hire Myles. When Slash and Myles tour together they play maybe 1 Guns and Roses tune. The newer stuff is great!
@@guitarlair It was pretty in tune and cracking was obviously on purpose. This wasn't even that high for Axl in his prime and he's a baritone. Myles is probably the tightest singer I've seen live. I think Axl is still great now too, but he's always been more about putting on a good entertaining show rather than just vocals especially now as he ages.
@@zaynekvam9404 bro, he sounds like a duck, here this IS HIGH for him, this is not high for Axl because it's within Axl's register as a baritone. I love Myles but GnR's songs were not made for him to sing.
Great analysis, Michael! I really enjoyed your other videos with Myles and Alter Bridge too. I think you’d dig some more of his originals with Slash like “Lost Inside the Girl”, “The River is Rising”, or “World on Fire”.
This song was one of the few that inspired me to even learn to play the guitar, Slash is iconic to me, i listened to guns on the radio by random chance and got instantly hooked they were the start of my taste for music, then i started to go through all the different kind of rocks till land on hendrix and blues but hard rock was the start of all of it for me, slash's licks, riffs and solos still hits my heart in a special spot! I cannot help but just close my eyes and let it hit the soul
This is an extremely difficult song to do properly this bare bones. Let's acknowledge that. It requires the rhythm section to sound "right". I'd have loved it if Myles had the second acoustic to do the rhythm section because he'd easily be able to do it and still sing the crap out of it.
And I know he's technically brilliant, but I hated that solo and he has almost no "touch" , at least on acoustic. It's all just on full blast all the time.
Long time follower, first time commentor. LOVE all things Myles. I highly recommend checking out Tommy Shaw's live solo acoustic version of Damn Yankee's "Come Again" It's just, you know, your typical 70 year old with his 12 string just shredding the crap out of it!
Album version is probably my favorite GNR song. Hard to explain...but the song has a lot of - I don't know, that energizing feeling? Just certain parts of the song is like 'F yeahhhhh!' Love to blast this while driving. It's just so damned good. Come to think of it, that's how I feel about most of their songs!
Awesome reaction! Would love to see you react to some more Slash stuff, especially the live Guns N Roses shows from the lates 80s/early 90s. There are some awesome extended solos in those ones.
I was 7 years old when I first saw Welcome to the Jungle and Sweet Child O'mine videos on MTV in 1987 and my first thought was who is the guy in the top hat playing guitar. I've been a Slash and GNR fan ever since. Wanted to play guitar directly because of Slash.
YES. The reason for Slash being one of the absolute GOATs in his genre is spot on in your analysis. His melodic feel he brings to his songs is of the very best and it is so freaking iconic. Miles...well, that guy can sing. Chris Cornell was the GOAT for me, but Miles is in that same league.
I started learning guitar as a kid because, at the time, I didn't play any instrument and solely wanted to know how to play sweet child o mine hahah. Definitely agree he is one of the greatest because of the iconic writing
i know its about the feel and general structure of the song, and you go in blind, but I think it'd be helpful for you and us playing along to just take 30 seconds and match the tuning. Just some feedback from a big fan! Keep it up. Also that martin is so rad
9:50 Actually myles didn't miss it,Slash forgot and went to that plucking part before verse 3 and came back to the bridge part so they laughed it off😂...Look at slash's fingering...It was slash that messed up a little.😁...Anyway Love them,Slash was the reason I picked up the guitar.
7:50 I really wish you’d tuned it down dude. Loving the video though. I actually wrote to the Foxtel back in the day seeking to purchase this session. It was never available for sale. I’ve been a Miles Kennedy fan ever since!
Myles is the SHIT! He can sing anything. His ranges is ridiculous, although sometimes I hate it when he yell/sings in a higher octave for a long time. But, he should be more famous than these crappy pop stars. The Seahawks or Mariners need to have him sing the national anthem. I think he could give a performance right up there with the best.
There's something really magical about this performance, but also super weird. On other songs in the same gig, Myles plays rhythm guitar, but not on this one. But it feels like he totally should be playing under those lead parts... Maybe he just needed to concentrate on the demanding vocals. Either way, it just works!
And I was going to piss everybody off but miles sounds like a karaoke version to me it's so uncomfortable and I can't stand what Axl Rose has become and I love / guitar playing but I can't do it with miles I keep trying and it's not there
Miles is, HANDS DOWN, one of the best singers of this generation. Dude rips.
And aaron lewis
yep, gonna see him today in Budapest, can’t wait
Disagree.. don't care for his style or voice much at all
@@RatsKingdom well, you're certainly one of the singers of all time. Great original material, super meaningful lyrics, deep shit.

It’s long past due that people universally accept Myles Kennedy as one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time 🤘
He's really good Ive really come to like him and he does a lot of guns stuff real justice but I like him singing his own stuff with Slash better... fantastic music... this one doesn't hit quite as well but again I really like Myles
I can see that. The Alter Bridge work and work he does with Slash are both awesome.

You really nailed Slash’s value on the recognizable solos and licks that elevated him and the band!
Love the analysis. Slash has always played just what a guns song needs. Always blows me away how perfectly written his parts are written
I haven’t heard this version in years! I love Slash’s music and Myles’ voice!

I freaking love just jamming in E minor nothing funner. Every open string is part of the scale😊so awesome
Myles coming to baltimore end of January!
Not many singers out there that can give prime Axl a run for his money, but man does Myles deliver
One of my favorite versions of this song. Also, do more on Stephen Wilson Jr! His LIVE AT THE PRINT SHOP stuff is FANTASTIC!
Excellent! Myles is so good!
I didn’t appreciate Myles vocals till I got older. None of those songs are easy to play like that on acoustic

Myles is a great musician and singer.
Lovely Martin! 🎉
Jeez shows how insane of a vocalist prime axl was.
Myles is the singer all other aspire to be.

@ ah I missed that part :)
Slash is a god, but this song isn't the same without Axl's voice.
Was holding my guitar already tuned half a step down and I saw Michael posting a Slash reaction video... Coincidence? I think not
Play it, bro

WE WANT MORE ZACH TOPPPPPPP
That’s a sweet Martin.
Myles does Axl song better than Axl does.. His performance at the GNR Hard Rock inductee ceremony was amazing.
Awesome vid man 🙏
I always wondered why Myles left Slash alone on this song when the whole session they were playing two guitars.

love the Martin
Dude,I don’t know where you are located, but Mike,I would love to have a beer with you!

Nobody holds a candle to Axl when he was on. He had to be on though and that was kinda rare. Slash is a tasty player/writer.
You gotta watch from the same set when they played sweet child of mine
If you are gonna do a Slash performance. Do "the godfather" theme live at made in stoke. There is a true example of his playing
Not sure if you've done modest mouse but that'd be great! Just saw your Conor Oberst one, amazing. Maybe Styrofoam boots or teeth like God's shoeshine
Gourgeous guitar

Your videos are fanatastic, but when you get an Eb tune grab an Eb guitar, it'd be so much easier :)
It starts in EM, then G and so on
Michael have you ever listened to necrophagist if not you gatta check them out it’s madness epitaph is a 10/10 album
4:40 part reminds me of halo haha
There are up coming artist who are mind blowing but no one knows them because all we do is promote people who are already famous. All about the clicks
you have to listen to mkgee if you haven’t
Huh huh, you said ‘lick bag’
He should have just went for chest voice on the high parts instead of head voice that warbles all the time.
I love Myles but this song is too high for him..his voice was cracking and he sounded like a duck dying in most parts during the chorus.

Miles crushed it. Slash did okay, but you can tell he's not a comfortable on acoustic. Miles is a great player as well.
Man, just retune your guitar ffs lol. 😂. So weird to do this with only one guitar so the crowd has to help out with claps.
Sign him up Axl can’t sing anymore
Joder, como desafina el cantate...
Hurts to hear this guitar butchering
You know Slash plays in e flat. Why do you not get prepared.
Nice guitar but not a fan of Slash or Miles Kennedy... just doesn't do it for me...
Should have just transposed. Kinda useless now.
i’m nobody but i don’t like myles style of singing.. he has decent range, pitch , tone, vibrato, but i think he uses a these to hide his weaknesses.
