In general though this group is absolutely amazing but as a tuba player i must say DAMN this guy is good ive been trying to get my range just up to the super high f above staff with 2 bar lines but he plays it like a so cleanly and beautiful it honestly astonishing also 6 valve tuba

One of the musical highlights of my life was when they performed in the Empire Theater here in San Antonio several years back. I heard them play their version of "Mars, The Bringer Of War". Haven't seen or heard that from them since! Next time they're here I'm going to spring for front row center tickets!

I started playing tuba in my freshman year of high school. The senior tuba player was a girl that weighed 45 kilos. Tiny! We were marching in the Rodeo Queen Parade, a five mile endurance trek. My shoulder hurt! 15 kilos on a bone, bouncing with every step. I might have stopped, except that spunky lass was swinging the bell from side to side, high stepping, and bowing in time to the beat. As a guy who outweighed her by two to one, she inspired me! Turns out the dance moves shift the weight off the shoulder... Also, the drill team marched behind us. We tubas were at the back of the band. Quitting in front of sixty pretty girls was never an option. Heavy metal indeed! When the tubas hit the deep notes, you can feel it in your heart. Best of luck!
"Multiple tonguing" I've never heard that term. Double and triple tonguing on brass is not difficult unless one is in a very low range, particularly on tuba.

For anyone who does not play the tuba, you have to essentially frown to get a good tone on tuba. This man stood, playing, as someone took a picture of his ear, on a massive stage, and held a FROWN THE WHOLE TIME. That, in itself, is a huge feat.
This is nice to listen to as well as hilarious. It takes a lot of skill to be able to pull this off. Thank you all for your hard work and for sharing the video. It took me a minute to figure out what was going on, but how you all put together the music part, as well as the comedic act, was smooth. Thank you once again.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm plenty impressed by the high notes from the Tuba. I'm equally impressed with his dynamic control. It would be so easy to let those low notes just boom out, but he does an extraordinary job of making his entire range sound uniform. Just another day at the office. This guy is brilliant!
I love Mnozil. They’re fkn hilarious, they’re boss players and their attention to detail is usually spot on....except in this segment where they play the super man theme. Alas, it seems that for once they’ve slipped up - this time by the rhythmic melodies of Williams
I mean.....Its definitely on purpose. These guys are some of the best writers around. I bet they wanted to change it to keep it interesting/slightly different than just transcribing the score. there are some changed harmonies as well throughout the superman so
These guys are amazing. Probably the best small brass group in the world. Would love to hear them live some time. The tuba player achieves such a beautiful tone, he makes the instrument sing, which must be so hard to do. Would love to know what exact instrument the guy in the hat is playing here, is it a flugel horn ?
The Tuba-player is really extraordinary. It's actually a bad idea, to have his colleagues clowning around, whilst he has to do the technically most difficult things on his huge-and beautiful-instrument.
