About 10 years ago, my friends and me were sitting on top of our favourite hill spot, looking down to the valley where the sunset was to the west. We were talking about instruments and that we didn't know any tuba solos. We randomly put this song on and got totally hooked on it! Then, during the last moments of the epic tuba intro, a huge 5 second shooting star englightend the whole valley. 10 years later, me and my friends are still regulary listening to this song, remembering the unique moment :)
Not even considering multiphonics, (which are extremely difficult as it is, and he pulls it off flawlessly) his tone alone is amazing. He has that pillowed thump in his low notes and that massive reverberation in his high tones. His articulation is perfect, his fingering is agile and accurate... *quits tuba*
boys... allways doing comparissons... I never talked of Gene, no doubt that Gene, Bobo, Baadsvik etc. are good, but comparisons are not fair, cause everybody have different style of playing, is a matter of taste my dear gollum friend!
my friend passed away 5 months ago, and this was his favorite thing to listen to and study. I listen to it everyday now trying to perform bits and pieces to increase my range and skill. I would love to meet you Mr. Baadsvik.
Having the chance to meet him and getting his autograph, I promise you, when he goes on tour, do not miss it. The difference between a recording and hearing him light and sitting about 3 meters away from him is truly amazing. Wouldn’t trade the night for any other
Who could have imagined that the tuba offered so many opportunities and the broadest range sound. Admittedly Baadsvik has a fabulous mouth technique. A Grandmaster of the instrument and a very convincing ambassador! Congratulations to the artist!
Multiphonics, unorthodox sounds, tons of creativity, and a pretty mean groove to top it all off... I LOVE IT!!! Probably some of the best tuba playing I've ever heard. I am thoroughly convinced that tuba multiphonics in fifths and octaves are the best thing that ever happened to music...
I’m currently a middle school tuba player and I cannot imagine anyone reaching such a level. The clear tone is something I have never heard. The force on his low notes and the tone. The tone is just it for me. It’s truly a beautiful piece of music and an artistic showcase
Baadsvik is just leading the way into the future. Fifty years from now Euphonium and tuba players will be doing even more amazing things, because great modern players like Baadsvik are showing young players to explore and experiment. Strings reached their apex fifty years ago. The big brasses will continue to evolve for another fifty...thanks to the new literature and great performers.
That's all assuming we don't have virtual concerts we can attend to just by thinking it as we are all connected to the internet by our brains. And assuming the instruments aren't just synths. (Hey, it's 50 years from now, who's to say what really will happen.)

this is officially my new workout song!!!! I LOVE THIS TYPE OF MUSIC!! I play the trombone. I only like this type of music because my dad was a band director back in 1984 and retired and now he has a 15 years old son at the age of 61. LOL
Потрясающе! Никогда не думал, что туба вообще может так звучать. Всегда думал, что это такой большой, отстойный инструмент, который иногда гудит в оркестре :) Разрыв шаблона, однако... Приятный! :)
StarLight Eb... It features a cylindrical bore throughout the valve section. Very interesting, I'd like to try one. I can say, however, that the FireBird is amazing.
Baadsvik is a diabolic virtuoso - a magician with an instrument that does not lend itself to being placed on the audial centre stage for a solo performance. It is the equivalent of a choreographer taking a man the size of Pavarotti and turning him into a prima ballerina.
@zachary chenault what he is doing is call multi Phonics (i believe that is how it is spelled) what u do is play the chord or root and hum the other pitches through the tuba it is really hard to well like that.
"It's easy" well said. All you got to do is try, then fail, then try again, then fail better. You'll get the hang of it. just don't do what I did and try to learn to quickly during marching band season or else your start accidently using your voice as you play. (Or is that just me) lolol
@@coffeeprogaming9395 That's just you. If you want to see a tuba who is better at multiphonics and lipbeating than Øystein, look up: Yougblood Brass Band Brooklyn, all of the weird sounds are the tuba doing multiphonics and lipbeating. It sounds really cool.

Baadsvik (professional tubist above), as well as all other college level or higher concert tubists, play on F or Eb horns (though, F more than Eb)

He tours, comes to the US every Octuba (heh) and spring.

John Maughan oups wrong comment, my bad ;)
Senza dubbio il miglior tubista di tutti i tempi
I got to watch him live! ^_^ he is crazy talented and yes he was singing and beat boxing in his tuba
WHAT??????!!!!!!!! HOW YOU DID IT??????? IT'S FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!
Yyu
Um instrumentista virtuose, brilhante.
I wish I was half the tubist that this guy is.
I feel ya man

What are you talking about? And this comment was made when I didn’t have a fully functional brain
Even besides the multi phonics his upper register just sounds amazing
