I just made this project for one of my nieces who is expecting. Such a great project. It turned out beautifully. I love it and I'm sure she will as well. Next time I do make one I will also make the pad a bit larger.
This has been my go too pattern for about the past 6 years now. Every time someone has a baby, I make one. I have probably made around 15 -20 or more. Nice easy to follow along instructions. Thanks for sharing.
I also used a heavier vinyl, 16" needle, fusible batting, and made my second mat larger by an inch all around. I added a handle so that you can pull it out of the diaper bag easily. Used an antique button. It's a piece of art! Great instructions and comments too! Best shower gift ever!
9 years later and friends are still asking me to make another one for the latest child/grandchild. Such a good tutorial! Thanks again and best wishes to you and your team. Stay safe during this difficult time. Greetings from Scotland today, Tuesday June 15th 2021
How adorable! One of my younger BFF’s is expecting her first baby and I’ve been looking around for ideas for gifts outside of the normal blankets, burp cloths, etc...this will work perfectly! Terrific tutorial as always 😊👍🏻
Just finished my first bag. I am super excited because I am a beginner sewer and it came out great. I made mines a little bigger and I cannot wait to give it out as a gift thank you!!
I used a heavier gauge colored vinyl and changed out my needle to a "16 denim". I used iron on fusible batting (not on the vinyl side) and used an antique button. I used the vinyl instead of bias tape on the pocket trim. Take care when attaching the elastic that the larger part of the loop is going to turn out to the outside when complete. Once you stitch closed, it's very difficult to move. Love the pattern. I enlarged it the second time to 13 wide and elongated the large piece on the pocket by 1 inch.
I made this for my Grandson. I also thought it was to small. My daughter loves it! It fits perfectly in her diaper bag. My grandson is 16 months old and she still uses it religiously. All of her friends want one. The only thing I changed was, I used Pul on the inside and added a magnet closure. Thank you for a great video of a very useful item.
I made one of these yesterday - thought it was a tad small though perfect for a new baby.... I have made another one today - really great idea and I am sure it will work well...
I made one for my niece. So cute! I did make it 16" wide and the lengthI added another inch. Per other comment recommendations, I used a 100/16 needle. I'll make it again. Thank you! Great video!
Hello again, I made another bag like this for a relative's grand daughter. I cant seem to post a photo, you tube wont let me. This was my fifth one. Thank you so much for the excellent tutorial. (This time I made it slightly bigger)
I am going to make this changing mat and will make it bigger as many have suggested. Has anyone used another washable fabric instead of the vinyl? I am thinking of using flannel instead so it can be thrown in the washing machine and dryer . Thoughts?
Hello, thank you so much for your tutorial which was excellent. The bag has turned out to be quite small, ie 11" by 8 ", have I done something wrong? The baby needs to be tiny to accommodate this mat!Thank you anyway and have a great Christmas!
the pocket was done wrong and changed if you watch closely. I put right sides together on the top material JUST LIKE SHE HAD IT and when I turned it right side out, the pocket material was correct but the back of the pocket had the wrong side out. Very frustrating
Easy to make, but made the mistake of NOT making it wider than the suggested 12". If I made another one, I would make it 16" or 18". Great pattern though!
This video was not completely clear on the details. I tried to make this exactly how it was on the video but came out wrong since I did not understand how to put the pockets onto the pad. Please include more details on other videos but don't stop what your doing.

+Mumtaz Mahmood ...The only folding done is with the 7" pocket pieces. Sounds like you folded the 23 x 12 main body?

Can the vinyl be left off.
I don't understand how to sew the button...can someone please explain? I'm fairly new to sewing and I can't seem to figure that part out!! Thank you!
Can it be machine washed with the vinyl?
Matching nails to! :)
Can ribbon be used for the edges? Thanks!
Tips about sewing on vinyl?
Where can you purchase the vinyl at?
joann fabric sells it... but you can also get the a vinyl fabric with cotton on the back there and eliminate the clear plastic
Love this! But is this changing mat machine washable? I guess not because of the vinyl?
yes... cold and dry on low for a few min.... and lay flat to dry the rest of the way...
Luv iy very handy
What did you call the white fabric?? Thanks
tintin8926 batting

Lana Morrissey you place the pockets between the top side and the bottom side of the mat and when you sew all around it they get sewn too.
Zip did this I think it's for a doll
Can you wash these with vinyl?
