    • @wd757
      @wd757  3 года назад

      I can tell you that you can feel the air movement under the cowling when your doing a leak check at idle. I actually saw a guy get his hat pulled off his head and sucked into an engine while doing an idle leak check. I think 2 meters might be a bit conservative at idle. That number definitely increases as you increase power.

      Mentour Pilot described it similar to holding your hand on the hose of a vacuum cleaner. You feel nothing and go closer and still nothing, you go closer and again a little bit closer and suddenly your sucked into it when entering an area of about two meters around the turbine inlet. But I still wonder if one cannot feel at least a little bit of wind or air rush when going closer.

    • @MenaceMartin
      @MenaceMartin 3 года назад

      Assuming you are talking about the underside of the engine and not the vapor at the inlet... It's a breather outlet. These engines are designed to be most efficient and "happiest" at high/cruising altitudes. The oil/water vapor you see only appears at low altitudes and ground level, where there are minor tolerances which aren't evident at their designed high altitudes.
      The large tornado/vapor you see at the inlet is due to the suction of the intake creating an area of low air pressure, whilst the surrounding air is humid, essentially causing a localised cloud to form.
