Listening this song I think only one word: masterpiece! I don't know if the guys are the best musicians or Bono the best singer but, together, they were and they are still pure magic.
I'd be hard pressed to say they still are... Bono started losing his voice after popmart... I remember the indescribable letdown the elevation tour was, to me, after popmart (vocal-wise) and it's gone down hill since then.
But we'll always have 2 amazing trilogies and one good one. Amazing: Boy-October-War and AB-Zooropa-Pop... we'll forever have those!

@@elijahshuler9985 Well I do remember there was a way to download U2 pop mart in Chile which was amazing too... and most of one in Norway if my memory serves me right... but I do not think they are/were better than the mexico official one. If pirate bay still exists maybe one could find good snippets there of the popmart era.
Of all the live clips of U2 singing "The Unforgettable Fire" live, this is always the best one in my opinion. Awesome .

Fuck I really miss Larry playing like that. That was my drumming inspiration. Larry's playing from the eighties. Before drum machines dominated U2 landscape. This was I think the last tour to see Larry pounding so hard and passionate.

Hard song to sing live. The notes on the studio version are crazy. He does well with it though.
He''s just Bono forcing his vocal chords but he can't move dance and sing at the same time. Had he stayed still behing the mike for this track in front of the monitors, he would have heard well his singing and the music. the sound on stage had to be far too loud. He couldn't compete with another 1980s professional of the stadium rock like Tina Tuner who contrary to him, ùa,ahed to move dance and hit all the notes without any effort.
Oh seriously who cares if he dances. He isn’t trying to be Tina turner for goodness sake.

bono was at the prime of his vocal capabilities here, he kept it a few more years and nowadays (2019) he vocally is a shadow of his former self, people get old... however he is still a good performer today, but not the godlike voice he once had...

+rob kling Pretty much spot-on with the end of their best work. Releases after then were, to be polite, highly commercial and completely lacking in any U2ness.
+Nick Kendell agreed. I'm not suggesting that they recorded awful music after 1990, but just can't compare to previous work.
No, not awful, just very different, and not what could be classed as classic U2, but all bands that remain also evolve. I'm a dinosaur and prefer the older U2...but having seen them in 1981 or 2, that was raw, and I mean raw...but still excellent.

Can't comment on Pearl Jam as I don't know their work. I shall bow to your vastly superior knowledge on that one. Maybe I should take a listen...

Bono didn't exactly manage to pull it of at 3:50...that's why they've changed this part at 360 tour...SO....Even in 87' Bono's voice wasn't the same with the 84' studio version...
Konstantinos Charalampopoulos He said in 2000 that he didn't study how to sing, and he actually said he was pretty bad singing....

christos1973 listen to the show from Milano in 1985. That might be the best version.
