    I bought the P50 with a 256 SSD as the main drive, instead of the HD, with the intent of just changing out to my 1TB 940 Samsung SSD with all the installed SSD parts , but I now see drive one is stuck with the M2 style of SSD for the main drive. I read that one can install a 2.5 inch as one of the drives.
    1. Does adding the 1TB SSD drive in the 2.5 inch drive require parts?
    2. I got the reinstall disks, and was planning on just reinstalling the system, just as I had on a W520. Any reason to use the Migration software?
    Thank you very much for the video. I know this can be tricky, and want to be sure I do it right.
    Thanks!

    Did you have to input your Windows key after booting up off your SSD or did copying over the image copy everything over?

    did you check for 4k alignment after the samsung migration? I have had to correct 4k alignment when doing some dell
    migrations using samsung migration software.

    the video is useful as I just got my P50 with only the M2.PCI NMVe drive and I want a 1TB spinning just as data dump or it money allows a SSD. do you know if Lenovo sells the kind of plastic caddy that the HDD had? do you know if a similar caddy is needed for a M2? the space looks quite empty I am sure the M2 will be loose if I just put it there?

    HI,
    I actually want to keep the SSD and put another 2.5'' HDD (1tb). Which HDD do you suggest? And also how do I know if my factory HDD is 2.5'' SSD or the small ones?
    Thanks.

    getting the run around with Lenovo. before buying i am trying to figure out if this thing will support 2 2.5" drives. the hardware maintenance manual seems to look like it does. I even found 2 different hard drive cables, one for slot 3 and one for slot 4. but one is sold out that is $23 and one is available but for $127.

      +Peter Markey around 7:50 in your movie you can see the connector for the 2nd HDD cable. but wonder if you can order the 2nd drive caddy. sales just tells me 2 2.5" drives is not supported.

    Is there a limit on the size of the SSD drive? I've read a couple of reviews that say that the max is 1 TB SSD. Samsung also makes a 2 TB 850 pro SSD, so physically its the same size... Will it work?

    • @mohamedgamal8704
      @mohamedgamal8704 5 лет назад

      Hey. The maximum one is 4 TB SSD so that's why they made 2 TB ssds and 1 TB. The SSD is called solid state drive not solid state drive drive.
      The d at the last means drive

    I am confused why you returned the M2 PCIE version you got by mistake. I have that one, and I get 2.4k for read, 1.6k write (so about 5 times faster than your SATA SSD). you could have just bought the cable or enclosure, the PCIE NMVE is light years ahead tech that your SSD. I am happy for you, you saved money, but I think it was most that given that Lenovo make a mistake, you could return and happened to face a lower price in the website, but the swaping the unit because they gave you a better disk, is a head scratching for me. just my humble opinion.your videos will be very useful for me as I get my P50 as I want it.

    Recently my Lenovo P50 Laptop suddenly won't turn on. It turns on for only 1second, with the green power button and keyboard lighting up for 1 second, then it immediately shuts down. When I plug in the power supply, the green light on the back of the computer lights up when I have the battery installed. So it doesn't seem to be a power supply issue. I searched all over the web for solutions & tried doing power drains, unplugging/ plugging in the battery & power supply, running with just the power supply, running it with just the battery, & both battery & power supply. I did the CMOS battery resets, removing HD & ram then trying to powering it on, but I get the same result.
    Have u ever dealt with anything like this with any Lenovo laptops you've worked on? Do u have any possible solutions? Please let me know. Thanks & have a nice day.

    I'm not very techy, but is it possible to put in a 500gb ssd next to the already existing 500gb harddrive that came with my laptop?

    • @Hookk16

      and if you can, do I need to buy another little cable thing so it connects?

    • @BagusHanindhito
      @BagusHanindhito 8 лет назад +1

      yes,,, just buy a NVMe SSD and put it on the NVme slot so you can keep the existing 500GB HDD.

      the P50 takes up to three disks, two in M2 format, one in 2.5 inches. the M2 can be SATA or PCI NMve. my gues for all of them you need some sort of caddy or enclosure to hold the drive in the space the computer has.

    I'm running a Samsung 950 Pro without issue. My only gripe with the P50 is the 4K screen. It's amazingly crisp but gives me vertigo after 15 minutes of use.

      I don't get it. if you set it as 200% magnification as the OS would recommend, it is almost the same as 1920x1080 but with sharper text. were you joking?

      +David Bauer I thought the M2 drives are still priced too high and the capacity was not there for what I needed. Maybe in a year or 2 when the prices come down I can get 2TB M2 drives for about $400, then I'll spring for 2 of them.

    Great job covering the connector as you detach/attach it with your hand. Who cares about the benchmark test results? It is clear it will perform better. Waste of time.

    Yes! that would be great if the system came with the required cable in you video. When I picked the M.2 type drive and paid extra for the upgrade, It didn't tell me that the 2.5" proprietary cable was required now as it would have just been included without the upgrade, This would now need to be ordered. Which you cannot even order from IBM Spare parts, or Lenovo.. and even if you could the price has been dramatically increased! Shame on you guys at Lenovo.. Very disappointed!
