1st Review of the New Lenovo ThinkPad P50
Просмотров 42 тыс.8 лет назад
This is my first review of the Lenovo ThinkPad P50 that just arrived 2 days ago. Please post all comments and questions to my blog on Nani.Today at: www.nani.today/?p=7656 I believe this is the first review of a productin version of the P50 on youtube. And in this video, I compare the P50 to something familiar, the W540. Several areas are a improvement over the W540: - Track Pad: The track pad ...
Hey I gotta p51 and my Lenovo had fell off my desk and shit didn’t boot my sata drive got fucked know I’m installing one of these would it boot back up and would I need to reinstall windows
Or would I need to reinstall windows since I couldn’t copy over since the hard drive got corrupted from the fall
Was the caddy Already in the laptop or do i have to buy one
I have seldom seen anyone loosen an already loose screw 20 more times. Before you make such vodeos, you should PRACTICE!
Recently my Lenovo P50 Laptop suddenly won't turn on. It turns on for only 1second, with the green power button and keyboard lighting up for 1 second, then it immediately shuts down. When I plug in the power supply, the green light on the back of the computer lights up when I have the battery installed. So it doesn't seem to be a power supply issue. I searched all over the web for solutions & tried doing power drains, unplugging/ plugging in the battery & power supply, running with just the power supply, running it with just the battery, & both battery & power supply. I did the CMOS battery resets, removing HD & ram then trying to powering it on, but I get the same result. Have u ever dealt with anything like this with any Lenovo laptops you've worked on? Do u have any possible solutions? Please let me know. Thanks & have a nice day.
Waste of time
Great comparision I just wish you compared them both with them running the same OS (i notice the W540 running Windows 7 and P50 running Windows 10 and i think that might affect performance).
After one month all OK. Fast, easy to work on W7, like a system developer I am very satisfied JustU.Faith/ThinkPadP with the performance. Only miss a little bit the internal CD driver.

*_Bought 2 for my team recently☞☞>_**_JustU.Faith/ThinkPadP?撃_**_ Having used myself for a long time I knew Thinkpads are built for software developers in mind but how easy it is going to be to upgrade I had no idea till I opened the back cover. As soon as you open back cover you see all (two) slots for the RAM are available (since machine has 2 slots under the keyboard - factory installed RAM used those slots which was very smart idea imo). Same thing with SSD/HDD._*
Great job covering the connector as you detach/attach it with your hand. Who cares about the benchmark test results? It is clear it will perform better. Waste of time.
My Samsung 860 Evo 4 TB SSD 2.5 inch SATA is TOO POWERFUL FOR STORAGING okay I have a SATA motherboard so I can do this process
Thanks for the video, did it too, works. buuut any idea to the graphic upgrade? probably only external will work, but how?
u named ur channel after ONE laptop? in one year, all you'll have left to make videos about are keyboard jizz tests
Now I am interested how you calculate Stock predictions? :) Still happy with the device after 1 year?
Wanna ask, between the two which one is heavier and thicker??
If this guy cant get the cover off a swap should be a breeze for me lol. yikes.
thank you.
is the P50 slimmer than the W540? It kind of looks like it, but it's hard to tell.
wtaching this on w520 with tear in my eye. Wish lenovo make further generation in w520 factor (only thinner and with better cooling) or at least make a retro thinkpad series, 14 inch with quad core and quadro 1000 series (dream).
hows it holding up .... any issues encountered ???
Jon Osterman throw away the included HDD, Chinese probably hacked it so that they can spy on you. they already did that with their Huawei phone
I bought the P50 with a 256 SSD as the main drive, instead of the HD, with the intent of just changing out to my 1TB 940 Samsung SSD with all the installed SSD parts , but I now see drive one is stuck with the M2 style of SSD for the main drive. I read that one can install a 2.5 inch as one of the drives. 1. Does adding the 1TB SSD drive in the 2.5 inch drive require parts? 2. I got the reinstall disks, and was planning on just reinstalling the system, just as I had on a W520. Any reason to use the Migration software? Thank you very much for the video. I know this can be tricky, and want to be sure I do it right. Thanks!
HI, I actually want to keep the SSD and put another 2.5'' HDD (1tb). Which HDD do you suggest? And also how do I know if my factory HDD is 2.5'' SSD or the small ones? Thanks.
you did?
Did you have to input your Windows key after booting up off your SSD or did copying over the image copy everything over?
I just mine, I went for the Xeon version; and somehow in my use (often extensive video rendering which uses CPU and GPU) I have almost never have the CPU running lower than 3Ghz. I could guess maybe you had the laptop in balanced mode instead of performance; or maybe the Xeon runs more effcient than the i7. I think I see your point of the no need for the colorimeter; but now that I have it, I cannot live without it. somehow the screen asks to be calibrated every week and once I do I can tell the difference. I dont know if it a weakness
I am confused why you returned the M2 PCIE version you got by mistake. I have that one, and I get 2.4k for read, 1.6k write (so about 5 times faster than your SATA SSD). you could have just bought the cable or enclosure, the PCIE NMVE is light years ahead tech that your SSD. I am happy for you, you saved money, but I think it was most that given that Lenovo make a mistake, you could return and happened to face a lower price in the website, but the swaping the unit because they gave you a better disk, is a head scratching for me. just my humble opinion.your videos will be very useful for me as I get my P50 as I want it.
The guy is a fucking idiot
the video is useful as I just got my P50 with only the M2.PCI NMVe drive and I want a 1TB spinning just as data dump or it money allows a SSD. do you know if Lenovo sells the kind of plastic caddy that the HDD had? do you know if a similar caddy is needed for a M2? the space looks quite empty I am sure the M2 will be loose if I just put it there?
Daniel you need to buy this: shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdetails/4XB0L63274/460/7EF7D50A5A7047049A355BF42AAF3C5C
What a dumbass. You should have bought a NVMe SSD and kept the existing drive as well. Now you have a slow SSD and you can't use the existing drive it came with.
If your work is not very disk-intensive, then it won't be a big difference in time efficiency vs the cost benefit. SATA III SSD is still 5 times faster than the mechanical ones.
I do not understand how even in 2016 a laptop can be so heavy, so huge and so poorly designed. My university sponsors this one for me so I only pay half, but it is so bulky and old-looking. Personally not at all a fan of a tracking point and the second set of mouse buttons, the word "ThinkPad" in an angle in the corner just completely ruins the look of it. Rounded keys, stuffed with pictograms, cheap looking plastic. Come on Lenovo, I know the inside matters more than the outside, but this is just not good looking at all.
The thinkpads are not meant to cater at all to those who want ultra-modern "slim & sexy" looking laptops due to the compromise that brings. These laptops are built for durability and performance. Also, most people seem to agree the keyboard is one of the best out there. Try writing a long-form piece on this vs the super thing chiclet keyboards and you'll see the design is not poor at all.
Tell him to use his tablet. In my opinions, the simple design on Thinkpads is extremely pleasing.
Really? I think it looks kinda cool. Reminds me of the 90's. Less form, more function.
KanjoosMakhichoos To be honest, I like beefy gadgets !
Longevity. Want your quad core processors for financial modelling, rendering, running proprietary programs, you got to keep the heat down, and concentrate on running faster. These are desktop replacements for performance, not built for portability (or cool). Yes I can get an i7 processor in a slim and light form (Dell XPS) but I need to use the thing all day, every day, running CPU intensive tasks. And I want to be able to upgrade RAM and drives in the future.
you have 65GBS of RAM?????
thank u so much 4 ur vids. how would u rate p50 on video editing? what specs would u recommend?
Hows the laptop holding up ?...does Lenovo ship with a lot of bloatware ???
Yes. Trust me a lot except power management
64GB Ram lol, how many memory slots?
16*4
I'm running a Samsung 950 Pro without issue. My only gripe with the P50 is the 4K screen. It's amazingly crisp but gives me vertigo after 15 minutes of use.
I don't get it. if you set it as 200% magnification as the OS would recommend, it is almost the same as 1920x1080 but with sharper text. were you joking?
How do you call this a review of the laptop and you don't even mention anything about the screen, which is what 99% of people interested in this laptop want to know about... THUMBS DOWN.
my t61 boots faster than my p70 full spec both win 10 pro can work it out
What hard drives do your T61 and P70 use?
Can you pls tell the specs? FHD or 4K? How is the quality for you?
thanks for the video. but actually, you argue extensively about how cooler it runs the P50, but when you show the task manager, CPU speed is only 2.6, so the machine is not using the turbo. the 6820 should turbo all the way to 3.6, which it means either thermal throttle or power throttle. that is a bummer if it gets confirmed. it is like buying a 35watts CPU for the price of a 45watts.
Which specs have your P50? FHD, CPU, GPU,
Why on earth would someone buy a thinkpad and use the touchpad??? Looks gay like Appleshit. Learn to use the Trackpoint. Also learn to focus the camera if you want to do videos like this.
Hi, Thanks for your video. Can I know the SATA Hard Drive Connector w/cable model No. or Part No.
getting the run around with Lenovo. before buying i am trying to figure out if this thing will support 2 2.5" drives. the hardware maintenance manual seems to look like it does. I even found 2 different hard drive cables, one for slot 3 and one for slot 4. but one is sold out that is $23 and one is available but for $127.
+Peter Markey around 7:50 in your movie you can see the connector for the 2nd HDD cable. but wonder if you can order the 2nd drive caddy. sales just tells me 2 2.5" drives is not supported.
If my P50 has a 500gb hard drive in it, can I buy a samsung 250gb ssd and put it in next to my hard drive? or will i have to use an external ssd hard drive for more storage?
+Hookk16 yes < there is 2 sockect for m2 ssd that u can have 1 hdd and 2 m2 ssd
Does replacing the HDD with an SSD make the laptop startup faster? I just bought the Thinkpad P50s, so I just wanted to compare with someone who has the P50 version. I'm going to be returning it to purchase the P50. Thanks for the video!
I'm not very techy, but is it possible to put in a 500gb ssd next to the already existing 500gb harddrive that came with my laptop?
and if you can, do I need to buy another little cable thing so it connects?
yes,,, just buy a NVMe SSD and put it on the NVme slot so you can keep the existing 500GB HDD.
the P50 takes up to three disks, two in M2 format, one in 2.5 inches. the M2 can be SATA or PCI NMve. my gues for all of them you need some sort of caddy or enclosure to hold the drive in the space the computer has.
When you release video about docking station ?
64GB memory, that is luxurious!
Good video, what would you say is the average battery life?
Saw the new trackpad. *goes out and buys the p50*
Yes! that would be great if the system came with the required cable in you video. When I picked the M.2 type drive and paid extra for the upgrade, It didn't tell me that the 2.5" proprietary cable was required now as it would have just been included without the upgrade, This would now need to be ordered. Which you cannot even order from IBM Spare parts, or Lenovo.. and even if you could the price has been dramatically increased! Shame on you guys at Lenovo.. Very disappointed!
