Was not aware it was a Sherman Brother's song.
Not to ruin everything and be not-so-family-friendly, but there is one fact that you left out. There was an alternative version of the ride for a short time. It was called the "wild west show." The wild west show was retired when the *technically* only cast member death on disney property occurred on the ride, an 18 year old named Debbie Stone. She got caught between the rotating wall and the stationary wall of the outer part of the ride and got crushed to death while the ride was in motion and no one noticed because they thought her screams were a part of the show. That's why there's a giant sodium light on the back wall of the Carousel of Progress guest seating area, to keep people from walking to the door hole and getting sucked into the rotation. She still is the only death to this day because Disney now has a policy of not declaring deaths on property for cast members; they have a deal with Celebration Hospital that all deaths be moved there first before the declaration is made, so deaths don't appear under Disney's jurisdiction. Happiest place on earth, gotta keep it clean.

Yes the attraction was called America Sings and it operated from 1974-1988. The death wasn't the reason the attraction closed, the attraction closed because it didn't fit in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
I 💕 CoP but always worry that it’ll disappear. In the mid 90s it always had long queues. By the late 90s, this was not so & a CM was doing exit questionnaires to see what we thought of it & if it was still relevant. Would love to see a new last scene with new & upcoming stuff as all the tech in that is old hat & we have it at home. Incidentally, as well as the tech from the last scene we also have the salt 🧂 shaker!
In 2015 when I went to WDW, they didn't let me stay seated in my rented ECV.

I l ove CoP but the last time I rode it the theatre was disgusting with dirty carpet and torn seats. Very un-Disneyesque.
