Hey thanks for watching again. I do play at a few weddings a year. Usually not that far from home but maybe we can work it out. Look me up on Gigmasters. Search for me in Maine.
I've been using the RPBG-12-56 Rares on this guitar. Kind of a blend between lights and mediums. I use them on other guitars and they're just ok, but they seem to match this guitar perfectly. Thanks for the comment
@yumpladukfoo DR Rares work great on these guitars. I use .12-.56 gauge. All my videos are with the DR's except "Time to Burn" which had Martin SP 80/20's
I put DR Rare strings on this guitar and it just came to life. I also put Tusq pins on it but I'm not sure how much they affected the sound. They're only about ten bucks so they might be worth trying out. Thanks
This is my favorite Neil Young song for some reason. I am thinking about getting a D 15, or possibly the Martin SWDGT. Nice to see you playing a great song with a guitar I am very interested in.
@TomMartinD15 Man that's cool to have Larry Cragg work on your guitar. He's The Man. The the low E string is tuned down to D. I"m doing some palm muting with the right hand for a little effect. Other than that it's pretty much just rock n roll. Thanks for your comment, enjoy that Martin.
@TheIrishguitarguy Thanks Daniel. I've found that DR Rares work best for this guitar. I'm usually not too picky about strings but the DR's are perfect for the D15. I use .12-.56 gauge mostly. Sometimes .12-.54.
I have been checking out people doing Young for a long time. I don’t know why I am just now ‘discovering’ you. You are the best. I am going to check out your guitars! Maybe your product will help me get there. Thank you. Well done.
@@JeffMonkman It seems like you have a lot of fans that would be quite happy if you would. Also, do you care to comment re how long a wait I would have if I was interested in your guitars? Or should I go through the website?
Thanks a lot. Perfect singer/songwriter guitars in my opinion. They cover all the bases from beautiful finger picking to soft and heavy strumming. Very dynamic guitars. And the quality is all Martin. Let me know how you like yours. cheers back at ya!
I bought this guitar because of this cover!!! OUTSTANDING!!! Now if I could only play the song! Jeff, your musicianship is amazing! I would love to learn this tune. Are you using factory strings and setup? Nothing beats the sound of mahogany.
Do you have a website for tutorials? I would love to check it out and hopefully learn to play this song. Please keep posting your videos and Merry Christmas Jeff!
Jeff, I have always wondered how you play this song like you do... would you be able to post a how to video?.. or even a description of the chords you use? Thanks
Hello fellow Mainer. I use two room mics going to the PC, then some mastering software after the fact. The guitar is unplugged and I'm singing through a small PA. Gotta love these D15's, a lot of guitar for the money Thanks for the comment
I am blown away by this cover! Can you tell me if this is essentially drop D tuning? Also, would you kindly send me the link to the tutorial? Thanks. You sound great. I am looking at buying a D-15 and a set of DRs!
Thanks a lot Rich. I've been using DR Rare strings for about 4 years now. They have a more solid feel and they last a little longer. They work great on these hog guitars.
I love the sound of mahogany. I bought this guitar because of this cover! OUTSTANDING! I like it better than the original. Jeff, your skills are amazing! Now if I could only play this song. Are you using factory setup and strings?
@mattthom1 I'd have to say no. In my opinion you really need a spruce top for bluegrass music. Check into a Martin Custom D or a Martin DSR, both are about the same cost as the D-15. I really like the DSR's.
hi, wich DR Rare strings set are using you? i mean, i was looking one of those for my D15 after read your comments, but there are RPB5, RPMH13, EXR13, So please help me to find the better for my guitar, by the way, awesome cover, excellent performance
can't believe some one didn't like this. oh, well...super job my friend. I play an HD16R and it don't sound any better than your d-15. Good song selection too. see ya!
Greetings from up 95 in Portland. Also play a D15 and wouldn't much trade it for much of anything else. . . great playing - is your guitar mic'd in this video???
First of all, who is the idiot who disliked this?! Second, I bought this guitar because of this video! OUTSTANDING cover. I like it better than the original. Jeff, your guitar work is amazing. I could listen to this all day. Now if I could only learn to play this song half as good I'd be happy. Are you using factory setup and strings?
The bluegrass size strings have medium on the bottom a lights on the high E, B strings. That's what I'm used to. Those are all good guitars. MF has the 45 day return policy, you could buy a D15, try it out for a month, send it back if you don't like it. I'd bet you keep it though.
Mi Monk! Nice sound on your D-15! Mine D-15 is also great! What kind on reverb are you using? It sounds a bit like mine Wet Reverb? Or is it Holy Grale?
Coupla questions......what chord is that with the hammers/pulls at the end of each line? Also, is your high E tuned down to D? Thanks man........really really nice.
Thanks. To me they sound more mellow, less overtones, not as much bite as spruce. They're more forgiving, mistakes aren't as in your face. Which can be a good thing. I like this guitar for singing songs but not so much for instrumental stuff.
Cool, you won't regret it for a minute. My D15 has been an absolute pleasure from the moment I opened the case. It's made me a better player. Enjoy it!
Forgot how much I enjoyed this one. It's great man. I've been trying out some Neil songs lately, they're so fun to play but a bitch to sing. I posted one anyway though. Hope something new is coming on that JMac.
Hey thanks for watching again. I do play at a few weddings a year. Usually not that far from home but maybe we can work it out. Look me up on Gigmasters. Search for me in Maine.
What a terrific rendition, Jeff, sheesh, this is SO good! You got "it."
Beautiful rendition of a great song. You have great rhythm when you play.
Effing brilliant playing and vocals.Top notch...
@Fstpicker
Thanks Jeff. These are great little guitars for singer songwriters.
@OMERTA011
Two condenser mics. One about 3 feet in front on a table and the other about 6 feet out front on a stand. Panned left and right about 50%.
@byzofsumma57
Congrats on the new Martin, I'm sure you're gonna love playing it. And they smell great too!
Thanks for the comment
@sambiga
thanks man. I added some reverb afterwords on the recording software, Sonar. Nothing fancy.
SWEET! You gotta love Neil! BRAVO - love your performance; you sound GREAT
cheers
Best Neil Young cover ever!

I will certainly that. Thanks for the offer!

You do that cover the best of anyone I've heard!
Good Guitar, good Guitarplayer, good Singer. ... and what a nice song....
This is my favorite Neil Young song for some reason. I am thinking about getting a D 15, or possibly the Martin SWDGT. Nice to see you playing a great song with a guitar I am very interested in.
checked loads of your vids Jeff, this is a tremendous effort, absolutely inspirational. love that hog Martin.

great sound, great cover.
you play great! really fluid, with an interesting tone.
That's a great authentic cover, Monk! That Martin sounds superb!
It's in drop D tuning. The guitar is tuned down a 1/2 step too.

Sure thing. I'll make a video over the weekend.
@scupking
I agree, one of Martin's best kept secrets
thanks for the comments. I'll send you the link.
Thanks Jeff, I appreciate it.
@warchild1976
Thanks dude. I think you'll find the D15 a little more lively than the GAD too. These guitars almost play themselves.
That's great Joe! The M's are really beautiful guitars. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
Thanks for the comments
Jeff
WOW - terrific.
Wow great -the guitar sound is cool and Vocals too -greetings from germany winni

Great. I'm sure you'll get it sounding good. If you can, try some DR rare strings. .12-.54 they work great on these guitars.
Thanks for the comments

Super . J'adore
CONGRATULATION... BRAVO
@cirillo47
DR rares .12-.54 the only strings I use on this guitar. Get them on Ebay pretty cheap.
DR Rare Bluegrass strings brought this guitar to life. It was quite a big difference from the Martin strings.
Thanks for the comment.
Thanks. There is no pickup in the guitar. Just two room mics going to the computer.
Jeff
omg awsome dude! will get the same guitar this week :)
The bluegrass size strings have medium on the bottom a lights on the high E, B strings. That's what I'm used to.

If Harley Davidson ever made a guitar, it would be the Martin D-15M! Always proud to pull it out of it's case.
yes a very solid well built choice for an acoustic. Can't beat a Martin
Dude.... you are so fun to listen too.... you need to use that martin more often.. dang
Hey Jeff awesome video,
Just wondering what strings do you use on your D-15 since Im trying to find the best ones for mine.
@StoneGerrard
Cool man, you bought a nice guitar. Mine still inspires me everyday. Congrats!
Mi Monk! Nice sound on your D-15! Mine D-15 is also great!
What kind on reverb are you using? It sounds a bit like mine Wet Reverb? Or is it Holy Grale?
You really grasp his songs, congratz
Thanks Luis
Thanks a lot. I sent you a link to a lesson video for this tune.
Hope it helps.
Coupla questions......what chord is that with the hammers/pulls at the end of each line?

How the pickup you use in your Martin d-15? is a Fishman MATRIX natural pickup? great sound...thanks!
Do you think the d15 would make a good bluegrass guitar? (I pretty much just play bill monroe songs)
thanks
Cool, you won't regret it for a minute. My D15 has been an absolute pleasure from the moment I opened the case. It's made me a better player. Enjoy it!
very ,very good man!
@scupking
Great guitars. Mine inspires me be better. Hope you love it!
Jeff - the link didn't show up in my email. Mark
best video on youtube!!!
WOW is all I can SAY!!!!!
Forgot how much I enjoyed this one. It's great man. I've been trying out some Neil songs lately, they're so fun to play but a bitch to sing. I posted one anyway though. Hope something new is coming on that JMac.
Nice job!:D
what kind of strings are you using! i have a d15 just need new strings thanks!
No the whole guitar is tuned down a half step then the low E is tuned down a whole step. So it's kind of a drop C# tuning
I wish I could play like that...
how did you mic it? cant see the mic..
@Breatheintome1993
Yeah a great guitar for the money, no doubt
Jeff, did you do this in open E?
Hell yeah!!! :)
