I like the way this scene was choreographed. Though Wednesday lost the match, she still made her point to everyone (and especially Bianca) that she's a force to be reckoned with.

Wednesday: [continuously turns her back to her opponent] Ref: [issues her a black card after several reds] Wednesday: Winner draws first blood Ref: Like hell they will. Young lady, please leave my gym.
Wednesday might as well have said, "Oh, you're the stereotypical antagonist character that turns up in all these types of shows; just cast differently."
I love how Wednesday fighting style gravely changed after she has challenged Bianca to a "winner draws first blood" challenge. Wednesday fighting style becomes more circular and contains some elements of Wu Shu. Especially at 2:24 you can see how she does that somersault jump to dodge. Uncle Fester taught her very well!
Look at Bianca's smile at the end. She was so happy. That she actually had to try for once. Im glad that Wednesday lost this fight. It's so annoying the cliche of the new kid coming in dominating everyone on their first day.
I love Xavier in this scene !! When he first notices Wednesday, he takes off his helmet !! And he staring at her when she wins the first round !! She lost but he still admired something about her !! 😊😊
My new favourite character. Wednesday Addams. Jenna Ortega is one of the best actresses EVER. Wednesday is quite to role model, no? Self-contained, pragmatic and sovereign.

@@MaricatStar yep, if the Queen Bee (in the human world) is always with sidekicks that's because she's enabled to do things by herself (except laying eggs)
The fist two bouts are perfect. Sadly, after removing the masks it's all spinning and no fencing :( The final hit is clearly out of distance, because Bianca at the end presents her saber point-in-line and it's clearly too far from Wednesday's face while after getting hit none of the girls moved their feet.
@Tin Watchman What? No, the moves they used in the first two rounds could be extended with moves that are prohibited by fencing rules, like, cross-stepping, fleche, grapling... instead they forgot all their fencing moves and started spinning like a witchers xD
Everybody’s saying how cool this scene was to make Wednesday lose but I’m just looking at how unrealistic this is, they went off the mat and the were fighting like it was actual swords. Not only that but a fencing teacher would never allow that to happen no matter what. Also even when they were on the mat they were still not fencing correctly but then again it’s a show that has a giant goblin and for some reason the school isn’t put on lockdown when the murders start happening 🤘
Just watched the clip, I love how Thing is portrayed, such attention to detail with e stitches and the guy who was beaten at fencing in the beginning using his inhaler..!! Brilliant, I thought this was at the cinema and now i find its aseries on Netflix gonna have to watch it
This is good. Wensday is an actuall interesting story not a bland tenage power fantasy as a lot magic shool franchises it has bern compered to often are.
I remember reading that the stunt double for Pris in Bladerunner was a man, the bit where she tumbles and grabs Deckard in between her legs, I`ve slowed it down and i cant tell...!!
I watched an interview yesterday - Jenna Ortega does her own stunts! I was shocked. Not a lot of actors/actresses will do their own but Jenna did all these moves !
When Wednesday said “And you must be the self appointed queen bee. Interesting thing about bees, pull out their stingers and they drop dead,” I was like “damnnnn”! That’s probably my favorite line. Amazing roast lol!
Fencer here. The second part of the duel is not realistic to the sport ofcourse but the first one is kinda accurate; their footwork that is. However the wear uniforms suitable for epee swords (one of the three swords in fencing) but their swords are sabers. Their play style also looks more like saber fencing and the fact that a point was counted when the right-side hit the blade with the side of it on top of the mask is also a sign of saber play. So I think they are playing a saber game but with epee clothing
@@maggiesullman3804 yeah. Ofc, just saying in case someone was wondering. It is generally nice for a show to be accurate. It looks complete. Also I was talking about the rules of fencing and they could use trained stuntmans
Where do I start? They wouldn't be using pointed tips and they absolutely would not be allowed to fence without their masks, *especially* if they were - for some reason - using pointed tips.
Tbf, this is in a school for outcasts, so maybe they use more dangerous instruments as a normal thing. In the original Addams Family, Wednesday and her brother used to light off rockets and grenades for fun. Actually, they do that here too in the scene at the lake.
The amount of people stating that the fencing scene is so unrealistic YET not saying a peep about monsters throughout the series are the most cringiest comments ever.
I mean yeah she's only 15-16 years old so of course she still has some to learn, though it's mentioned in episode 5 that Gomez started teaching her when she was little W: "how many fathers hand their daughter a fencing blade when she's five years old?" G: "your sabre strokes were an essay, in perfection" It's a really sweet moment between them
The way fencing is portrayed in film is usually stupid. The equivalent would be like watching a high stakes chess game and they start throwing the pieces at each other to decide who wins. That's not remotely how chess is played. It would have been way more cool if they did it the right way.
I know that I’m late but, as a fencer, I don’t get how Jenna took fencing lessons for this. I get how maybe she didn’t know how to hold it but real lessons for that is wild. 1. You can’t go off the strip 2. You can’t switch sides or it’s a halt 3. You have to have good posture/position 4. You have to go back to your original spots after you score a point 5. You can’t do aerials/flips on the strip 6. You HAVE to wear a mask, there is no exception. Who knows how the coach let that fly. Overall, it’s not at all accurate
Wednesday really treated this place like a prison. First thing to do is beat up the strongest one there to exert dominance. Didn't work in this case... Been on the backfoot ever since, always needing to keep one eye open.
i just finished watching the whole series and i thought it was great. i would love to see a rematch between wednesday and bianca but then become this unstoppable team with xavier, enid, and eugene. i love those characters.
Cool scene. Wish they did actual fencing though. Especially since this takes place in modern times. Anyone who does actual fencing doesn't fence like that. Still, cool scene.
You would be carded or banned if you tried this in a real fencing club. The only way this would be acceptable is if it was coach approved. Likewise Wednesday is wearing a coaches outfit. Unless it was purely for practice it would not be allowed. Don't get me started on the kicking........
some small inaccuracies: - Refs/coaches don't say "en garde" to make fencers put on their mask, they are expected to wear them before that. "En garde" signals the fencers to assume the ready position, with "Allez" signalling the start of the bout. - Yes, if you fall it's your fault even if the opponent somehow "tripped" you. That's why people in fencing are taught footwork first and actual fencing later. Even with that, falling doesn't automatically means the opponent won, it simply stops and resets the bout - Even in first-blood-drawn fencing duels (according to old military officers' manuals, which my father did study when he was an Army officer) you are not allowed to either show your back to the opponent (so no twirling) nor you are allowed to step off the lane even with one foot. That would be considered ungentlemanly and you'd lose the duel by default (which would be even worse because it would mean you weren't a gentleman officer) - "No tips" wasn't a thing in military duels, no rule said you could only slash, which is why even in old military duels, even if you didn't have full masks, you had protection for torso, neck and eyes - No, even in old military duels kicking was not allowed - Sabre fencing doesn't count legs as targets so they wouldn't have had to guard for attack against them. The allowed areas are head, torso and arms. Swords (epèe) instead is free-for-all, but you can only strike with the tip. - A standard olympic fencing sabre doesn't leave a clean cut like that (nor does the sword or rapier), they are designed specifically not to. Sure, they can leave a very nasty bruise, maybe some surface scarification in addition, but you can't make that kind of cut - Being struck with a fencing weapon like that hurts like a bitch
Rules that ban moves for being too powerful or dangerous weaken the realism of the training. Because the ultimate goal is to win against enemies that obey no rules, whether in war or private fights.
@@johndododoe1411 woah ok mr. BladeMaster69420 careful not to cut yourself on all that edge, and remember to take your trenchcoat, fedora and complementary Amazon katana when you leave. It was admirable for me that the creators of Wednesday broke the cliché of the protagonist beating her rival in her first confrontation. And frankly I deduced right that Wednesday would lose to Bianca in that first duel, I unconsciously deduced that way.
I'm starting this series tonight, and I really hope that this scene continues on where Bianca laughs but then clutches her lower back, and it focuses on Wednesday's foil as she brings it into frame and blood drips off the tip.
As a fencer I think it's a fairly good scene in terms of how real it looks. Although the moves are kinda exaggerated and cinematic, it's well done compared to others. Let's just not talk about the last slash ok?....
I don't know which "sword" fight is written worst. This or that red room fight from the Last Jedi. Those useless spins when they could just as well strike their opponent instead are really frustrating
There's a long comment from someone whose name starts with T explaining that there may be a reason in the story why Wednesday did those silly things and how that lead to the experienced fencer winning by not doing such silly moves.
@@johndododoe1411 The problem is that Bianca, which I assume you called an experienced fencer, does those silly moves too. In 2:17 she had a clear shot but decided to spin anyway. Not to mention the final strike which Wendnesday had plenty of time to block.

Everyone having unique parts of their gear (flags, names, stamps, etc.): aight, bet
Wednesday: [walks across mats while people are actively fencing]
The fencers on the mat: Ayo, what the heck? rude.
Wednesday and opponent: [keeping their points everywhere other than on their opponent]
All the fencers on the sidelines giving constructive criticism: Hey, stop flinging your blade everywhere, keep the tip on the opponent!
Wednesday: [continuously turns her back to her opponent]
Ref: [issues her a black card after several reds]
Wednesday: Winner draws first blood
Ref: Like hell they will. Young lady, please leave my gym.
The way she looks at Xavier is funny and dead serious 😂
Bianxa4: "Oh you must be the psychopath they let in!"
Wednesday: "And you must be the self appointend queen bee. "
UGH THIS IS MY 2ND FAVOURITE QUOTE
Wednesday might as well have said, "Oh, you're the stereotypical antagonist character that turns up in all these types of shows; just cast differently."
@@jetubertim burton is not a 4th wall breaker, but i agree, that would be cool af
@@jetuber What's "stereotypical" about her?
@@jetuberum no, bianca wasn’t an antagonist.
She lost but sometimes the point is to challenge the unchallenged
It's not really about winning the fight but to proof to ourselves we're not coward
Because coward they don't live they just there
Bianca probably has found her worthy opponent
this fencing style is ancient
I love how Wednesday fighting style gravely changed after she has challenged Bianca to a "winner draws first blood" challenge. Wednesday fighting style becomes more circular and contains some elements of Wu Shu. Especially at 2:24 you can see how she does that somersault jump to dodge. Uncle Fester taught her very well!
Yes. I believe that trick she did to dodge is called an ariel
think that makes you lose right of way but im an epee player so what do i know
I love how Xavier is just standing in the back watching.🤣cant wait for second season
Look at Bianca's smile at the end. She was so happy. That she actually had to try for once.
Im glad that Wednesday lost this fight. It's so annoying the cliche of the new kid coming in dominating everyone on their first day.
Me too, I was happy she lost
Imagine Bianca cut off one of Wednesday‘s braids💀
I LAUGHED LMFAO
I can't gureented you safety🤣
I GIGGLED HELP
And that's the last time we ever saw Bianca lol
as a fencer.. i can confirm i have done that b4💀😭
I admire the rivalry between these two
I love Xavier in this scene !!
Just when we were prepared to hate Bianca, she pulled through. Love her!
Don't judge people with their first impression ,get to know them much longer , you'll surprised what you find out
Me too i love her

I am a fencer so the second she said no masks/ tips I was like gurl what 😮
Me, I prayed fois her losing 😅
The fist two bouts are perfect. Sadly, after removing the masks it's all spinning and no fencing :( The final hit is clearly out of distance, because Bianca at the end presents her saber point-in-line and it's clearly too far from Wednesday's face while after getting hit none of the girls moved their feet.
I think professional fencers substituted in the first two matches.
@@dabouras Still choreography in the last one is terrible like ameteurs were not only doing it but also inventing it.
@Tin Watchman What? No, the moves they used in the first two rounds could be extended with moves that are prohibited by fencing rules, like, cross-stepping, fleche, grapling... instead they forgot all their fencing moves and started spinning like a witchers xD
They didn't reset to the middle of the piste after the first bout.
yeah, the fact that it’s never that long and that they never go back in position stress me out 😅
I hate how much I love this show. I would hate to see more seasons!
Stop hating

As a fencer, this is hilarious 😂😂 they have no idea what they're doing
As a HEMA fencer all the twirling their doing is insane.lmao
As a sabreist/foilist, im dead
Wooooooooooow 💕🤩💕🤩💕 nice fight ❤🎉❤
I love this scene, fencing honestly looks like so much fun, Wednesday is a tough one😉
as a fencer im adding wednesday to my long list of shows/movies/books that tried to portray fencing and failed miserably. this hurts my eyes
Haha pretty sure every fencer has a very very long list of those films/shows/books.
I absolutely love fencing ⚔️🗡️🖤
Definitely works on your coordination, cardio and the ladies love it too 🖤
I'm sold!
Just watched the clip, I love how Thing is portrayed, such attention to detail with e stitches and the guy who was beaten at fencing in the beginning using his inhaler..!! Brilliant, I thought this was at the cinema and now i find its aseries on Netflix gonna have to watch it
this is some zesty fencing
i cant wait for season 2! we need it asap..
This is good. Wensday is an actuall interesting story not a bland tenage power fantasy as a lot magic shool franchises it has bern compered to often are.
Sorry about the spelling Dyslectic
These two would hate to admit it, but they’re more alike than they think.
I mean they end up being friends
Oh my God!! Her full toothed grin at the end!!
I'm in love with you BIANCA!!!😭😭😭
Wednesday stunt double, Jenny Ayumi, is incredible. ❤❤❤
Look up Jenny Ayumi
When Wednesday said “And you must be the self appointed queen bee. Interesting thing about bees, pull out their stingers and they drop dead,” I was like “damnnnn”! That’s probably my favorite line. Amazing roast lol!
But Bianca landed a pretty good one in the end.
This was eye twitching Wednesday doesn't lose in fencing lol she doesn't really lose at anything
The way she learned all of that from fencing is incredible its amazing how she learned it!
I have to say that this girl
is the coolest Wednesday Adams yet. Imagine how much cooler she would be if she was cast as Emily the Strange. ☺️
Or maybe Alice Maness Return
Fencer here. The second part of the duel is not realistic to the sport ofcourse but the first one is kinda accurate; their footwork that is. However the wear uniforms suitable for epee swords (one of the three swords in fencing) but their swords are sabers. Their play style also looks more like saber fencing and the fact that a point was counted when the right-side hit the blade with the side of it on top of the mask is also a sign of saber play. So I think they are playing a saber game but with epee clothing
Um, there's no point critiquing this because it's just a show. It doesn't have to look so accurate. Neither of them are professional fencers, smh...
@@maggiesullman3804 yeah. Ofc, just saying in case someone was wondering. It is generally nice for a show to be accurate. It looks complete. Also I was talking about the rules of fencing and they could use trained stuntmans
@@krupt5995 yeah, the fact that it’s never that long and that they never go back in position stras me out 😅
Wow! That was pretty epic.
I love the bee reference given everything that transpired around bees later on in the series 😊😊
@@GRNKRBY Yeah I can see them doing that, but not a school allowing it. The world around them should act pretty normal.

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE😅
This was an Amazing show, brilliant
Netflix: "People like the show! Quick someone announce its canceled!"
I just seen the first episode. I impressed
I forgot how cool Wednesday was. Need to see it now.
Next season, Wednesday will win
The amount of people stating that the fencing scene is so unrealistic YET not saying a peep about monsters throughout the series are the most cringiest comments ever.
This is one of the best scenes of the show
We all expected Wednesday to win but the writers subverted our expectations by making Bianca win
So excited for season two
Wednesday always slay in every episode
Rather, here she is slain.
lol they are using a Sabre but in epee fencing clothing lol
Well shot well choreographed scene. But as someone who fenced for 8 years and did sabre. It makes me want to die.
That flip at 2:25 was 🔥🔥🔥
Although Wednesday had quite the teacher, being Gomez who's notoriously an expert fencer, but it seems Wednesday still has much to learn.
Wednesday underestimated her opponent. For all of her arrogance the other girl took Wednesday seriously and didn't mess around.
I mean yeah she's only 15-16 years old so of course she still has some to learn, though it's mentioned in episode 5 that Gomez started teaching her when she was little
W: "how many fathers hand their daughter a fencing blade when she's five years old?"
G: "your sabre strokes were an essay, in perfection"
It's a really sweet moment between them
Who knew Wednesday could do gymnastics tricks like a back handspring or an aerial?!
Well, if you remember of Gomez's atheltic skills we can say she inherited that from him
Brilliant series! Binge-watched all 9 episodes this weekend..
As a fencer this is the most stupidest and funniest fencing match ive ever seen
They made it entertaining because fencing is boring.
The way fencing is portrayed in film is usually stupid. The equivalent would be like watching a high stakes chess game and they start throwing the pieces at each other to decide who wins. That's not remotely how chess is played.
It would have been way more cool if they did it the right way.
This wasn’t fencing.
It was a lightsaber battle.
I saw right through it.
@@A_Distant_Life they portrayed it better. Notice that no one watches Fencing in olympics? Because it's a boring sport.
second season immediately pleeeeease
amazing performance. great fight and dialogues.
The chemistry here 👀
Awesome duel, those 2 really have skill
I love Bianca’s quotes
I wonder if Wednesday gets her rematch on season 2
I would have loved to have seen Wednesday use Gomez's finishing move on Tully from the first movie
Like from the movie big stan, no? Reference
i just finished watching the whole series and i thought it was great. i would love to see a rematch between wednesday and bianca but then become this unstoppable team with xavier, enid, and eugene. i love those characters.
Bianca and Wednesday are the most gorgeous people i have ever seen
I love that side cart wheel she does at 2:22. Cool as fuck, tactically stupid.
It’s actually called a side aerial
Love it💜
Bianca: Finally, a worthy opponent!
Cool scene. Wish they did actual fencing though. Especially since this takes place in modern times. Anyone who does actual fencing doesn't fence like that. Still, cool scene.
I like the way this ended, the expectation was that Wed was gonna win
Okay. This sold me on the show. Gonna finally give it a watch
2:19 thats a total Jedi move right there.
Just watched all episodes of Wednesday great I l laughed and cryed alot the best 💋❣️💯
0:03 she looked at Xavier 😍
You would be carded or banned if you tried this in a real fencing club. The only way this would be acceptable is if it was coach approved. Likewise Wednesday is wearing a coaches outfit. Unless it was purely for practice it would not be allowed. Don't get me started on the kicking........
some small inaccuracies:
- Refs/coaches don't say "en garde" to make fencers put on their mask, they are expected to wear them before that. "En garde" signals the fencers to assume the ready position, with "Allez" signalling the start of the bout.
- Yes, if you fall it's your fault even if the opponent somehow "tripped" you. That's why people in fencing are taught footwork first and actual fencing later. Even with that, falling doesn't automatically means the opponent won, it simply stops and resets the bout
- Even in first-blood-drawn fencing duels (according to old military officers' manuals, which my father did study when he was an Army officer) you are not allowed to either show your back to the opponent (so no twirling) nor you are allowed to step off the lane even with one foot. That would be considered ungentlemanly and you'd lose the duel by default (which would be even worse because it would mean you weren't a gentleman officer)
- "No tips" wasn't a thing in military duels, no rule said you could only slash, which is why even in old military duels, even if you didn't have full masks, you had protection for torso, neck and eyes
- No, even in old military duels kicking was not allowed
- Sabre fencing doesn't count legs as targets so they wouldn't have had to guard for attack against them. The allowed areas are head, torso and arms. Swords (epèe) instead is free-for-all, but you can only strike with the tip.
- A standard olympic fencing sabre doesn't leave a clean cut like that (nor does the sword or rapier), they are designed specifically not to. Sure, they can leave a very nasty bruise, maybe some surface scarification in addition, but you can't make that kind of cut
- Being struck with a fencing weapon like that hurts like a bitch
épée* but the rest is gud :D Thanks for bringin us enlightenment
Rules that ban moves for being too powerful or dangerous weaken the realism of the training. Because the ultimate goal is to win against enemies that obey no rules, whether in war or private fights.
@@johndododoe1411 woah ok mr. BladeMaster69420 careful not to cut yourself on all that edge, and remember to take your trenchcoat, fedora and complementary Amazon katana when you leave.
We started to put rules in fencing when it became a sport, and fencing became a sport because in the era of machineguns, air bombers, artillery and hand grenades you don't even have the time to heroically unsheathe your fine sabre that your fellows need to pick you up with a mop and bucket
@@johndododoe1411 You don't do fencing to win a war, you do fencing to have fun and play a sport
Even antagonist deserves to SHINE like Bees!
It was admirable for me that the creators of Wednesday broke the cliché of the protagonist beating her rival in her first confrontation.
And frankly I deduced right that Wednesday would lose to Bianca in that first duel, I unconsciously deduced that way.
Oh, me too I was glad she lost
The sceneeee❤❤❤
Would love to see you ladies wearing white karate gi’s and black belts demonstrating self defence techniques against a male attacker !
Hey fencing people! Did you noticed the left-handed guy in the background?
I'm starting this series tonight, and I really hope that this scene continues on where Bianca laughs but then clutches her lower back, and it focuses on Wednesday's foil as she brings it into frame and blood drips off the tip.
That's a sabre, not a foil.
Agreed. It's ubiquitous now and always ridiculous.
