- Back to Steve Strebel's On 30 - On3 model railroad to look at how he paints his amazing backdrops AND a preview of the new area, now mostly finished.

Steve shows his techniques for painting with acrylics. All while coning Rob to paint the backdrop for the switching yardThis time reworking a 30 year old backdrop from an On2 modular railroad.

Last week we saw part one of a series of shows on model railroad backdrops with Rob Spangler who has painted many of the backdrops we have seen on the channel. A how to of Rob's technique as he painted a backdrop for the 1/20.3 scale railroad at Garagemahall. Soon we will be back with Rob to finish up with this backdrop, and a visit by Gil Bennett showing his take on the subject.

I have to agree. Cool railroad and something to aspire to.
davie maclean make me want to lay track. First bench work and backdrops l!!
Little did we know that this Sunday would bring us another glimpse into that wonderful layout of Steve's. The Town of Nowhere, seems to suit. Great instruction for the backdrop painting. But another look into this growing world of Steve's is the best. Pass along how fandamntastic it all looks. Let us not "sell the Toy Man" short on the excellent camera work. Rare in a sea of You Tube wannabes. Greg and Jeanne
So many talented people. Thanks for showing Steve's.
Some dead trees tomorrow
Enjoyable as always. It is good to be cool ;-)
Carl Sorensen that's cool. Down right cold. Kids now say "dank" Dank? How is dank cool?
Always love to see his layout and artistry. He perfects every facid of the hobby. I to love the lightning of the back mountains to make them look alot farther away.
Knowhere is now FINISHED. And its amazing....
Steve's layout is amazing. Look forward to your sunday episodes especially anything on railroads.
Rob White thanks!! We have fun with so many things but models and railroads are what we run into most. But any good screwing around!!
I watch this every sunday after church! :)
Daniel Mccoy I used to go to church. And to work. Retired from both I guess. Just a new church, playing with toys.
I just got through an audiobook of Out of the Silent Planet by CS Lewis and now I'm craving Adventure. I am supposed to be going to Colorado sometime this summer my dad and I will be going to the Durango & Silverton and pack and Pikes Peak.
Nice layout, can't wait to see it finish. Great video guys.
Excellent! Reusing an old backdrop, isn't a bad idea at all. I will have to remember that idea!
The bridge to the city of Nowhere, New England!
happycamper3dhd I tried that once but it just didn't work out. I suppose using an Indiana Jones backdrop on an HO railroad was a stupid idea
Toy Man Television Oh? So your Temple of doom backdrop, just wouldn't fit into your layout? LoL!
No runaway boulders? 😁
Steve strebel's the new bob ross! Looks amazing!
Stookey-Scale-Modeling looking forward to seeing the lights.
Great video and what amazing work by Steve! Enjoyed very much.
Larry Grant Steve is amazing. Al is working on these buildings and trees
Everything about this layout is incredible love it and I love your intro of the rocket 🚀
Amazing layout. We gotta go see as Steve cut the top off the one mountain!! Needed to relay the track up there. The On30. Anyway want to see it this was until he fixes the mountain
fantastic video. Very interesting on how to paint a backdrop.
David Tucker more on that! Lots more!!!
I think Steve has probably the coolest model railroad I have ever seen. Looking forward to your next visit there.
Gary Sumner soon back to the Village of Knowair when it's finished.
Wow that is such an amazing model railroad. Probably one of the best in the world!
Sailor Boy true. Just amazing. Will be part of the 2019 NMRA convention in Salt Lake.
Yea, My favorite part of it is how the shays look like they belong there, or fit in pretty well. I've always wanted a model railroad like that.
If you're into light houses Greenleaf Dollhouses has a couple of light house kits, one in 1/12th and one in 1/24th. They're laser cut and can vouch that theyy're great. If you wanna build a light house this is a fun way to go.
We wil check that out
He's making great progress! I like the idea of following your instincts rather than the "rules" of doing this sort of thing! Have a great week!
Tom Klock when necessary always screw around till ya get it right. Then claim it was the plan.
I can't express how much I enjoy your videos. Your movies are good medicine (no, not sleeping pills ) for whatever ails me. As Spock would say, "Live long and prosper."
BTW, I keep pausing the video so I can peruse the details. As the TV infomercial guy says, "A-MAZING!"
tom7601 thanks!! We have so much fun doing it. Today we found ourselves in an abandoned tunnel. And found some track so old the ties were hand hewn. Fun times!!
Toy Man Television
Som of the older "hand wrought" rails had the date cast into them in the web near the end of the rail.
thanks for the fun video always love to see what steve is doing on the layout hes so talented
karl schweizer inspiration to all!!!!
OUTSTANDING: 🚂🇺🇸🚂🇺🇸🚂🇺🇸
Fun new place
Truly amazing! :) Jack
Hey, Jack! It really is! Steve is a very talented individual... The whole railroad is magnificent!
Jack R hi Jack! Amazing model!! Always leaves us speechless. Ok no, that has NEVER happened!! Lol.
John Allen would have loved Steve! What an imagination! My backdrops got clouds these last few days, finally. It was quite by mistake, though. I used the "ski blue" from the backdrops at the RR Museum to fill in the ski behind the Poly mine complex and when that dried, it wasn't as dark as the rest of the room. It looked a bit weird. What to do? Ahah! Incoming Front Range storm! This was planned anyway; but, now it has this eire look that is inspiring further screwing around with the foreground portions of the back drop up there at Foggy Mountain and the North Park L&M complexes. And, as of this morning, an unplanned HOn2.5 line! Thanks Steve and you guys! This is more work!
Randall Hawkinson love to see it!! Photos?
Photos will be available as soon as I learn my new photo processing program. My hard drive died two months ago and my old program was no longer available. Like everything "computer", the learning curve is a right angle straight up into the troposphere! (To get photos from my iPhone 4 to my computer, I text them to my buddy in Washington state and he sends them back to my computer as emails... Perfecting the art of screwing around is really difficult when one is so pathetically computer illiterate. I have the same learning curve with DCC. It may be another six months before trains run. ) But, stand by for spectacular!
I love the iPhone. And all things Apple. Except when I don't... Why can't I down load my photos? Why do I need to buy more clouds? Why do I capitalize the second letter? Never saw that in sChool.... Did buy a great little tool from SanDisc. It's a thumb drive with a USB plug on one end and Apple on the other. Dump the whole damn phone to the drive and then plug it into any computer... No matter, love to see some photos.
With Steve, everything is amazing: his painting skill, the model quality of Knowair buidlings, and even more the speed at which he make all that.
Of what sort of material is made the background? I didn't see any seam.
pbyfr yea but he can't cook!
I'm in awe of this mans talent! Your videos do him justice also! Would love a complete over view of the railroad even if it takes an hour or two video! How many years has Steve been working on this railroad?
Hes been at it upstairs for about 30 years. Before that is was in the living room. Duck under to get out the front door. I do have a Steve playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLBuDn43_eyeqstJcsab4F-s_Wmdne_N7j
Have you been over to green field village in Dearborn. A great museum to go see
