Great video, hope you’re feeling better. Sometimes I go HIGH peak luminance. But sometimes medium & medium on contrast enhancer looks amazing. It lifts the middle tones quite a bit. I even told KG, if you have both to medium, the contrast clipping that happens when going from 90-MAX on contrast, on high, disappears. You can go to max & lose no highlight detail. It’s weird. I’m guessing it reduces the overall brightness to achieve. But if you have any game that doesn’t implement HDR well, it’s a great “lift” option on top of brightness preferred. Peak on High, contrast enhancer on Low is my sweet spot setting. It boosts the highlights a tad without bending the tone arc like medium can.
Do you have earc off? I have earc on and still have audio dropouts at the begining of a game for 2-3 seconds them its fine. I wonder if it s becouse of earc on
Just a bit. In being sick and playing on the A80J the distractions from the dimming and image retention are annoying. But it's still great for movies and TV.
Should I use the Switch settings for older consoles (GameCube with a 1080p HDMI adapter)? Also, what's the best audio settings for gaming in general (with the TV's default speakers)?
For the PS4 using an A90J HDR setup, do we follow the same settings as instructed for the PS5 in this video? Turn off hdr tone mapping, and then adjust by eye until the symbol disappears, then turn hdr tone mapping back on? Or is there a set number of clicks we should be using?
@@ClassyTechCalibrations Some other YTubers have recommended setting the switch output to 720p instead of 1080p to let the a80/a90j upscale from that lower resolution instead. Did you by chance look at the difference between upscaling 720p or 1080p on the switch? I imagine the reason to go with 720p out is that in 1080p output mode the switch is already upscaling to 1080p (poorly) before sending to the TV. Just a guess.
Hi, I am eager to share something I noticed with the Game preset. I believe there's a benefit to using the Game preset for movies due to added motion clarity. Coming from a Kuro 500M, I noticed immediately that the Game preset was superior when it came to motion and more closely resembled the Kuro. This is even obvious with BFI fully disabled. If you are inclined, give that a shot and let me know your findings. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and findings.
I heard somewhere that the Sony tv doesn't support 444 chroma subsampling in game mode. So in the xbox settings, should I activate the 422 box ? Otherwise the tv will drop to 420 ? Sorry for my bad English
@@Kapono5150 Ok I remember where I read it. If you go to the A80J calibration page on RTings it states this : Unlike TVs from most other brands, no special settings are required for PC use on the Sony A80J. Just make sure you are using either the 'Game' or 'Graphics' Picture Mode, and set HDMI Signal Format to 'Enhanced Format' for the input you're using. Both of these modes offer low input lag and display chroma 4:4:4 properly, which is important for text clarity.
How does the sun disappear at 15 clicks on the ps5? These tvs are around the same or lower peak brightness as my x90j. But on my tv the sun clips at 13 and 14 with tone mapping off. If I turn off local diimming then it clips at 16. So how should i go for my tv? 15 for even if it clips at 13? Or go till it clips? Or go with the auto adjusted 19? Or go wirh the 16? It is for Nintendo Switch. For HDR capable systems it won't save independent motion settings so you would have to turn it off and on every time you switch between SDR and HDR games.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations I just asked this same question and you had already answered it here lol I don’t like how these tvs share some settings. The c1 would keep everything separate and I liked that but I stayed with the a80j.

It will go to game mode on Xbox even without auto picture mode. But if you watch media content on the Xbox it won't switch to custom or other picture mode for media and back to game. It just stays in game mode. ALLM would allow it to switch picture modes based on the content.
For PS5, I want to get as close to Vivid settings while on Game mode so it can be both bold color wise & no input delay. Hate default game mode for dimming so much. Makes it look dull
I found that changing the color temperature to neutral and adjusting other settings like saturation can get you back to vivid like look while in game mode

@keep it classy the Audio drops outs with 4k@120hz is fixed since a month by the firmware on the A80J. No more drop outs with 4k@120 & Atmos now :-)
