I was 16 in 1971 and had an 8 track tape deck in my VW and a tape of New Riders of the Purple Sage covering this song. It's part of the soundtrack of my life.
Figured out how to personally comment to u since I can't see. My previous comment was for you. Glad my love of v.w.s didn't put me in contact with Ted bundy
Love you Ray Wylie ! This is a great version of this song. I am glad you are still singing it. Lots of Mileage drom this song. Love the Dylan reference. It is too true.
Ray Wylie gave us so many good songs. I remember seeing him play at Richland Junior College back in the late 70's. Next time that I remember seeing him live was in the last 10 years or so in Henrietta, TX. for Pioneer Reunion. This video was great to see because I was thinking he was more lucid here than he had been in a long time. He influenced so many over the years, and I am glad that his life looks so animated and jovial now. Thank you Ray Wylie. Thanks Drew for posting this.
Yes, you do. The Rednecks and cowboys stand chest high. The hippies are the ones hiding under a table and the so called hillbillies are out puking in the parking lot. Nuff said
Thanks for hangning in there with the cel phone, T'was a fun tour, at least we saw Ray come through Raleigh around then, enjoyed the updates !! Thanks Ray..
Some may know him by this.... But Ray is sooooo much greater! Not saying this is not great, but just listen to what he had done, and you will find a true artist, and an amazing poet!
Yeah if you've seemed ill man in the last five to ten years I guess you'll get exactly what he's talking about went to see Bob at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Clearwater Florida did not understand one word or syllable that came out of his mouth but it was still Dylan first time I saw him was with Willie Nelson had to be almost twenty years ago it was a high life in my life cuz I was a beatlefan big-time and Dylan was the closest thing to The Beatles still out there and after you smoked a joint the music got better so there is a reason he turn the Beatles on to smoking cuz his music is a lot better when you're high keep on telling stories boys, I will keep listening
True story whether you believe me or not. I'm from Dallas Texas and I used to run into Ray Wylie Hubbard and some of the Dallas Cowboys in some of the downtown Dallas bars. Especially in the late 70s up to the late 80s. One night me and my wife now ex-wife it was in the early 80s we're down at the West End and Ray Wylie Hubbard was in,, I can't remember the name of the bar they had several bars down there,, anyway we were just carrying on small talk with different people in the bar and with Ray Wylie Hubbard and I got drunk and he was already drunk and I thought he was hitting on my wife. So I proceeded to beat the shit out of Ray Wylie Hubbard and in turn got the shit kicked out of me by friends of Ray Wylie Hubbard in the bar,, thrown out and told to never come back again. Then I got bitched out by my wife as she drove us all the way back to Duncanville Texas. True story and I like Ray Wylie Hubbard always like Ray Wylie Hubbard but you know what happens when you get drunk and if you think somebody's messing with your woman. I did see him a few other times at the West End in another bar and at Deep Ellum and nothing was ever said just shook hands,,,hey how's it going type thing. Anyway God Bless Texas !!!!
It is a true story cause I was the one hitting on your ol lady. She was hitting right back, pretty hard I might add . Good time for all except you ray, billboy lol
I was 9 in 71 and I love this and listen regularly. Loved me some hippies in some v.w.vans. rock on
