    reaching 3rd place in a WC, beating Brasil and England is no failure. "not winning anything" when it comes to national teams is a lot diferent than clubs, in clubs, you have at least 3 titles to fight for per year, in nationals, you have one in each two years (the confederations and finalissima only exist if you win euro or World cup first).

    • @commodorezero
      @commodorezero 4 месяца назад +1

      They weren't COMPLETE failures as they had 1 SF appearence in the WC. They have literally nothing else. No other WC SFs, no Euro SFs no nothing no nada. They were a dissapointment. And I'm someone who doesn't like "ring culture" and thinks athletes should be proud of coming in 2nd, 3rd etc. They were the "Golden Generation" but the 80s Belgium national team achevied more.

    People seem to forget from where Belgium comes from, I grew up not even realising we had a national team cause we were in no competitions and look now, people need to stay humble and learn the story of a country before criticising

      Tbf, Belgium before the 2000's were a very good team. 3rd place at Euro 1972, Final at euro 1980, semi-final at WC 1986. And those teams were less talented than the current ones. So i do understand why people are disappointed tbh.

    • @LorolinAstori

      @@JobHans I see it more of the fact that a national team is more about being a team than about being a collection of great talent. National teams need time to gel. You see this in the recent tournaments since many teams have had little time to integrate players to create a real team. His team had time to gel. It had a decade to gel and it did nothing. Great qualifying team. Poor against the top tier teams in tournaments.

    I agree with a lot of what you said. Only 2016 and 2022 were disasters. In 2014 Belgium weren't in the conversation for being contenders because they hadn't peaked at that point. 2018 and 2020 were cases of losing to good teams. The only time I predicted them to win something was in 2020

    In a competition like the world cup, even the favorite will only have a 20-30% chance of winning the entire thing. Because at the end of the day, every participating team has a theoretical chance of doing that and they have to add up to only 100% somehow. Single leg knockouts are just built to not make the best team win every time. One bad or unlucky match and you're out.
    Yes, I get that the amount of trophies is regarded as an objective measure of how good a certain team performed within the football community, but 1 (un)lucky goal changes everything and then you could argue that a bad result doesn't make a team bad and this is a notion I completely agree with

  • @DTNenforcer
    @DTNenforcer 9 месяцев назад +9

    In 2018 they could have been world champions if the manager had came up with a better strategy to face France. They were the national team with the most beautiful playstyle back then. Too bad broken relationships among some players and lack of commitment to put every thing that were holding them from being a more cohesive group of people aside affected their performance.

  • @rendsmachaine1872

    I can never understand why people are such in need of feeling superior when it comes to Belgium, we are a tiny country with multiple cultures within the country itself, the fact we had and still have such a team should be congratulated, I swear football fans can be so fucking stubborn just for some stupid pride or whatever reasons they don’t like Belgium

    • @deandoesstuff3371
      @deandoesstuff3371 4 месяца назад

      Eh. We're not "that" tiny. Historically, we should always be competitive and atleast among the top 20 countries in the world. I do agree that winning a trophy is just very difficult and alot of the times, comes down to luck and form.

  • @renktalksball
    @renktalksball 9 месяцев назад +7

    I think it truly comes down to the FIFA rankings, as unfair as that is, the best team doesn't always win, but Belgium spent over 4 years being "the best team in the world" and didn't manage to win anything, I definetly agree that looking back at Belgium's history, what they've done is incredible, but i'm not sure if this was their goal when starting this project

    • @bentenv7524
      @bentenv7524 9 месяцев назад +3

      People tend to forget that literally any team can lose any match if they're a bit unlucky (hit the woodwork, a certain player has a bad day, the opposition gets a lucky goal, etc) and for a tournament like the world cup, losing 1 match is enough to get knocked out. You definitely have to be a good team to win the tournament but even if you're the favorite to win, you're more likely to not win than to win

    • @RainerRilke3
      @RainerRilke3 9 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah one would think being the best rated team for so long and winning absolutely nothing is the exact reason many people think of them as failures. Some would say it doesn't matter because they were still good at the game but you know it's still a major disappointment

    I don't have a problem with them and they are not failure for themselfs. But stipid FIFA rankings are what makes them failure. You can't spent multiple years on No1 place in the ranking and meanwhile not winning anything ever. Its FIFA to blame, not Belgium. And maybe the media, that is very exadurating on them, similar to England. Those are the failures.

    To put things into perspective, people term them as failures as they did not win anything significant, ranking at the top is nothing tangible and will be forgotten years down the road, but a major trophy is different. The players are outstanding individually, but collectively, they did not perform during the big occasions, It is not about Belgium football history, it is about this group of talented individuals, thus to IMHO, they are failure (when comes to trophies).
