Thanks, Nick. I live on the end of Cape Cod and no TV repair shops will come out here. With the guidance of your videos, I've repaired my HiSense and our pals' Sony. You helped save 2-3 year old TVs from going to the landfill. Thanks again!
Wow $20 tip! Thanks a bunch! Glad I could help you!
@@NicksTVRepair We should all put money where are mouths are, or fingers typed. You really helped a great deal; I could at least buy you a beer or a few donuts!
Hello! Please show the processor under the black heatsink?
Sorry TV no longer here. But why would you need this? If you have this TV you are working on, you can do that on your end no? Knowing the part number of the processor won't help you fix this unit or troubleshoot the fault.
@@NicksTVRepair I not have TV, I just want to see the processors themselves. Please show the processors in the next video sony TV
Sorry but I would only do this if it is relevant to repairing the TV.
If you are interested we do have some older Sony repair videos where we do replace the CPU and in those cases we are showing you that processor. You can check out some of those videos here if you want:

@@NicksTVRepair I know, but I'm interested in models with XR chipset. Please show them in the next video, warmest regards!💓
I will see if we have an XR unit that requires a new CPU, if I have one of those we can do a video on it.
Hi Nick. It amazes me how approachable and helpful you are. You've restored some faith in humanity for me. 🙌 I have the 65A80J with same power board and I keep thinking there is hope for my tv but then I read and dig a little deeper and I lose all hope. Maybe you can shed some light. One day I went to turn it on and it powered right off giving me the 4 red blinks. Keeps doing that but the only other difference is if I unplug it a bit and try again, I'll get the android animation logo but then turns off giving the 4 blinks... Animation looks great for the few seconds it plays and there are no lines or other distortion, but it powers off... I'm afraid it's the panel because of the logo animation screen coming on at times ...if it wasn't an OLED I'd think it's the led backlight..... I'm
hoping it's the power board or another board but what do you think?
Unfortunately in my experience what you are describing is a backlight failure. Given that this is an OLED TV the backlight is imbedded inside the actual screen and can not be replaced without also replacing the entire screen which is a cost preventative repair.
There is the slightest chance your power supply is bad but it is very unlikely because you are getting the set to turn on and show picture for a brief moment. If the set never showed a picture then I would be more likely to say that the power supply had a defective component.
As a hail marry you could try replacing the power supply, but make sure you buy a board from a supplier that allows for returns just in case.
Hi Nick, great video.I have the same model with a small issue on HDMI port 4,it ahould support 4k 120 Hz,the port worked fine until few months ago.Now on that port I can't connect anything without problems .At first the tv displays correct signal feom ps5 then it flickers once or twice, and I don't get a signal anymore .I tried different cables and sources, also tried changing signal input type without luck.Do you think a replacement of that connector would help?Thank you in advance .Keep up the good work !
Hi Nick , is it possible to replace the Sony XR-55A80J screen if it is broken?
It is but it's not finanically economical. It would be cheaper to buy a new TV.
Is there any way to reset the main board? My sony A80j turn on shows the sony logo, then goes to a updating screen. It seems to just get stuck there. Its only 2 years old.
I tried adding a new firmware to a usb. Nothing seems to work. Could i use this tv as a monitor?
Thank you
You might be able to force reset it by unplugging it, leave it unplugged for a few minutes then press and hold the power and volume down buttons as you plug it back in and keep them pressed in until the green light appears. If it doesn't appear within 10 seconds it probably won't so you can release and try again.
If that doesn't help then most likely you have a hardware fault on your mainboard which can't be fixed by resetting the TV.
We do offer flat rate repair services for that which come with a 1 Year warranty if you want to have us fix that.

I'm from Canada, how much would that cost? Thanks
Hello Nick: I have a XR-55A80J that appeared to survive a nearby lightning strike (hit a tree near the cable company's cable run a couple hundred yards away.
The TV worked for several days after we replaced the fried cable box and fried xbox. We did have to move the xbox and cable HDMI cables to new inputs on the TV.
During the middle of a Midsomer TV show, the TV suddenly shut off. After a couple of minutes the TV turned on, showing first the Sony initial boot, then the Google boot into a square, then the TV shuts off with the cycle repeating approximately 40 seconds later.
I tried to use the online instructions of unplugging and reset method. NADA. If I hold the power button for a long period to reach restart, the TV flashes the Restart option just as it shuts down.
Is this the reboot symptom you mention as being able to fix?
I've searched high and low for the proverbial red led flashing and NADA. From your comments here. I gather that the led flashes on the screen, mine show anything but the Sony and Google intros.
Is this fixable?
Sounds like you have a mainboard failure. What happened was the cable box was connected to the TV and thus the cable box got fried and sent a jolt through to the TV via the HDMI port. That's why that HDMI stopped working but the others were still working. The little failure probably caused a short in the mainboard which wasn't bad enough to cause a full failure but weakened the CPU most likely. As you used the TV more and more the CPU started to slowly fail to the point of full failure when it shut down.
If you send in your mainboard for repair, we should be able to replace the CPU and get rid of any other shorts in the system to fix your mainboard.
This is very common and we see it all the time. Sometimes it travels through the ethernet cable, sometimes the HDMI.
Hey 👋 i have the same model but i got the 4 blinking red lights. Geek squad tried to fix it by switching the mainboard but that didn't work. They said it was most likely the power board. What do you think? And where can I get one of those and how to replace it myself
Not a power or mainboard, this is your LED backlight that has failed and needs to be replaced.
@@NicksTVRepairhow difficult is that to do? I have the same issue
Is it the same for the model xr-77a80j? I am struggling to get the clips to pop
It's similar but different
@@NicksTVRepair Thanks for the reply. I was able to get it, but unfortunately it seems that its the actual panel itself gone bad
How so? What issues are you experiencing with it? If it's 4 blinks I have a video on how to fix that
@@NicksTVRepair Every single board was swapped/repaired and every different type of factory reset was attempted. Got told it must be the panel at that point. These Sony TVs are complete garbage. They seem to have a ton of issues when researching online.
Where did you get the emmc software? I installed in the kd-55xe9305 for the firmware kd-55xe9005 but tv it doesn't work. An attempt to update the software from the manufacturer does not work and after a while the led flashes red 5 times. The emmc memory was definitely damaged.
Are you talking about the eMMC software or the software used to pair the mainboard to the TV?
I also am not familiar with the model you are asking about, I only really work with the USA models. Would you happen to know what the model number is for the USA equivalent?
This is about software loaded into emmc using easy jtag. Do you know any websites or forums where you can download this software for different Sony models?
Im sorry I don't think that exists. All software we acquired was taken from good working boards.
Hi Nick, My Sony XR-55A80J shows a green vertical line for a second, then the TV turn off and keep Blinking 4 Red light. May i have your advice, thanks.
That is going to be due to a bad panel. No repairs there
same model and exact same issue happened about 3 weeks ago.
@@mortdale9 how do you solve this problem
If there is a way to fix it, I don't know about it.
@@shuimingleung6972 Will have to buy a new one as Nick suggested there is no fix for the bad panel. Very disappointed by Sony's quality, the Tv is less than 3 years young, my 13-year-old Panasonic still strong.
My 77 OLED A80j cracked womt turn on ,are screens replacedable or am i better off getting a new tv
New TV unfortunately but I would recommend selling your power supply and mainboard on eBay as both are worth at least a couple hundred a piece.
Hi Nick, i have the same model that doesn't turn on and is completely dead. I bought it only 2 years ago.
For this model when it goes dead, everytime that has been the mainboard failing in my experience.
I have a video that shows how we fix that. The model is slightly different and the symptoms are slightly different but it's the exact same component that fails and thus the repair is the same. If you are interested in seeing how we repair it here is that video below
ruclips.net/video/HZLE3wZq4iY/видео.html
This is an advanced repair, most people opt to remove the mainboard from their TV and mail it to our shop for us to fix. We do offer a flat rate service with a 1 Year warranty.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Maybe you can help me since Sony support wasn't very helpful. Same TV as the one in the Video, my issue is my 4k HDMI port #4 the ARC port has recently stopped functioning with all cables and both my PS5 and PC. I tried a factory reset, along with unplugging for 2 minutes and unplugging all devices from TV as support said. Which haven't worked. Anything I plug into that port states no display. Same cables in the other 3 ports work flawlessly.
I would recommend starting with a visual inspection to make sure there is no damage in the port. If not, try cleaning it with IPA 90% or higher is best and a fine brush. Deoxit also is highly recommended. If that does not resolve your issue then I would recommend a software update if one is available, and unfortunately, a factory reset if the update doesn't work.
If you still have issues after all that, then it's possible you have a defective IC chip and will either need to have the mainboard fixed on a component level or replaced if there are good working replacements available for sale.
Real talk - how many times have you broken the teeth on one of those ribbon cables?
Me personally over the course of the last 8 years, probably 3-5 times, but collectively with everyone that has been in the testing position aka plugging and unplugging those ribbons close to 4,000 times at this point I think we have gone through at least 20 sets of ribbons as a team. I would have more damaged ones under my name if I was doing the testing all day.
Is this a OLED tv?
Yes it is, very thin but heavy.
My Sony XR-55A80J shows a white vertical line un the image and after some seconds the TV turn off and the Blinking Red lights are shown. Any idea to solve this?
How many time does the red light blink? The exact number of blinks is what will tell you what is wrong with the set. Im willing to bet it's 5 which indicates screen failure.
I’m looking at one where the light blinks 8 times, anyone know what this means?
Typically that is mainboard failure. If you replaced your mainboard already and are still having that error then it could be because one of the ribbons is not properly connected.
Sony a80j does not turn on. Before had the update stuck logo. Nothing happening. What can it be my issue
What you are describing is definitely a mainboard failure.

I have same model A80J , I'm facing issue with my tv getting 5times Red light blinking... I see TCON cables are not getting 12v seems issue with fuse but i unable to locate the fuse on MB could you please help?
Issue with fuse? Where are you getting that information from? These mainboards have several fuses on them, but I have never heard of them going out before and we fix a lot of these.
5 blinks in my experience are typically caused by the following:
1: Screen failure
2: T-con failure
3: Mainboard failure

Sony X-RAY-48a90k - is there video on how to remove cover of this model?
Not yet
Nice open.
Thanks!

Once I get that TV in the shop ill get a back cover removal but it may take some time.
