We here in Oz were really spoiled when it comes to Jesus Christ Superstar - in the 70s we had Marcia Hines, Jon English & Trevor White (& Stevie Wright & John Paul Young)... and then in the 90s we had Kate, John and Jon (& Russell Morris & in the chorus - John's bandmate Lindsay Field).

I absolutely loved this, and there's a Gethsemane video out too, I never get tired of hearing these guys! An absolutely incredible live performance in the middle of a long theatre season - amazing! Wow, go Kate! 🌟❤️🙋
Had the chance to watch Jesus Christ Superstar in 1992 live with this very cast. Was freaking amazing. if you like Kate Cebrano, check out her song Bedroom eyes.
I'm going to twin towns on 29th November 2024 to see jon Stevens and Kate cebrano superstars show performing songs from this show, doing john Farnham tribute songs. So excited. Jon Stevens is frontman from 80s band noiseworks and he tours performing his songs and tribute inxs songs for Michael hutchence. Great rock voice. These artists you are watching late 80s Jesus Christ Superstar musical and they are great artists loved by Australians.
I'll never forget that stage show. Jesus Christ Superstar was absolutely amazing...John Farnham as Jesus Kate Cebrano as Mary, Jon Stevens as Judas.Best voices...and in the chorus you can even see John's number one backup singer Lindsay Field plus a few other singers who became famous. Great memories, I still have the program ❤
John wiped out the entire stage full of singers with ONE WORD(gone). Think about that. John also did both male vocal parts of this song on his 50th birthday concert.
Kate Ceberano's father was a Philippine navy man she stole my heart when i first heard her sing '' bedroom eyes '' but my favorite song of hers is'' brave ''
You need to add Jon English too. He was also amazing. I didn’t find out this was on stage until it was too late to get tickets. I was also stuck in the desert working with my husband for two years and connecting flights would have been a nightmare. It had to have been filmed, I think it might be time to search. Cate is some more amazing talent the world needed to share more of. Thank you.
Oh, Charlie, thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been dying to see you do some more John reactions. I went to see JCS in 1992 with John, Jon and Kate. It was amazing. The entire cast were superb, and of course, in my opinion, John was his usual mind-blowing self. There is still so much more of John's music that you haven't heard yet. I'm going to join your patreon, not only because I think you are a wonderful human being, and I want to support your channel, but also because I want to show you more of John's music and personality. Just an update on John. Although John hasn't been seen in public, his son's say he's doing well and singing around the house. Just recently, 'Finding The Voice,' a documentary about John's life and struggles to become the superstar he is, won an award. His sons and Gaynor Wheatly were there and looked so proud. Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy performed a stirring tribute to John. They sang 'Burn For You' and 'You're The Voice'. There was a big screen behind them, and while they were singing, they showed clips of John from his concerts singing the same songs. It was truly beautiful. I'm sure John was watching at home and crying like I was.
Lovely to see you get back to John again - will be doing some PayPal requests for him soon myself :) Yes, this was a fantastic Jesus Christ Superstar cast, and Kate is brilliant as Mary Magdalene. Jon Stevens is also amazing, and of course our wonderful John Farnham blows it out of the water, even though his part in this song is quite small.
It's perfectly okay to dig Kate. She's completely gorgeous. This was live and John hit that note nearly every night doing the show. Kate and John and are national treasures. Jon is a shared treasure across both NZ and Australia. In the show there were other notable performers that don't appear here. Many consider this the best version of JCSS ever. This is why. I may listen to this regularly. Jon and Kate are touring this in October - we managed to get tickets. I've seem both live - but never together. Beyond excited. BTW the 'Willy' is Wilbur Wilde who was the saxophonist in the House Band for this show and also a member of a few well known bands back in the day. For Kate, check out her funk pop band 'I'm Talking' as well as her solo stuff.
Three of the most amazing voices ever, please check out more of Kate you won't be disappointed. Also check out Noiseworks ,Jon was the lead singer of this band. I recently got to see Kate and Jon live (2023) still as amazing as ever. Another hi band favourite of mine are the Screaming Jets worth a listen. We have so many amazing artists past and present.
Love your reactions to our Aussie legends and especially John. You should react to the whole production, Charlie in 1992 Sydney final night. They kept having to add shows and ended up doing 84 (from 12 originally). ❤😂🎉 Tim Rice was in the audience as well that night 😊😊
Kate's voice is so beautiful. She's so gorgeous as well. John's and Jon's voices are so powerful and incredible. Love them all.❤❤❤ Love you too Charlie. ❤❤❤
Thank you SO MUCH for doing my request. I knew in my heart you would love this, especially with Amazing Grace at the end. This was a musical that made me fall in love with musicals - I saw it with this cast when I was 9 years old and I still listen to the soundtrack to this day. Kate's voice is ethereal; in fact, Kate and Jon Stevens are touring Australia at the moment doing hits from this musical at the moment and I'm going to be in the front row of the balcony in my home town of Hobart to see them perform together in November and I can't wait! Thank you again; your reaction lived up to all of my joys and nostalgia of these three superstars (and the wonderful cast) together once more.
Pssst - if you want a gorgeous love song from John (other than "Please Don't Ask Me" with Livvy) check out his "Comic Conversations" with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - the same concert as his "Help" - CHOOKAS! 😎 (love from his Red-in-💙)
Great stuff! Looking forward to seeing Kate and Jon in October and then the latest production of JCSS in Feb. Perfect timing. Thanks Charlie and requester!
G'day Charlie, Not sure if you noticed, but among the chorus was the "Real Thing" Russell Morris (wearing purple and green), and Lindsay Field, sitting next to Jon Stevens. At the time of this production in 1992, I was busily raising my sprogs so, unfortunately, I couldn't really afford to go to concerts and shows but would have loved to see it, having seen the 1975 production when our school choir were lucky enough to be invited to see JCS in Sydney... I think I must be in the extreme minority of those who didn't get to see John live but did thoroughly enjoy when we got to see him on the telly. Now that I can afford the odd outing every now and then, unfortunately I'll never get to see him live, following his brave and successful fight against cancer. I am however most grateful for the wonders of modern technology that allows us to enjoy his music whenever and wherever at the touch of a button. Much love to John, his beautiful Jilly, and their amazing boys. 🥰🫂💓 🙃🐨🇦🇺 p.s. also shout out to Daryl Somers and Ozzie Ostrich,,, and the incredible Ernie Carroll, who was Ozzie's "handler" for all those years 😉
Thank you Charlie. Love your work and your passion for John 😊❤ Beautiful request Amy. Takes me back to my childhood watching this live on Hey Hey 😊 👍 Kate is stunning in this performance. She was perfect in the role. And unlike double denim, double John/Jon works so beautifully. Both powerhouse singers, and they brought such life and emotion to their roles as Judas and Jesus. I’d like to say that the whole cast of Jesus Christ Superstar slayed it here. I say yes to some more Kate Ceberano and Jon Stevens, plus other cast members which includes Russell Morris, and Angry Anderson who played Herod. Then as an ode to the 1970’s Australian show, some Jon English, Marcia Hines, Stevie Wright, and Doug Parkinson (who joined the cast a year later). Some superstar names amongst both shows. Kate did some Covid performances from home, and there is one where she teams up with Dami Im, doing a cover of Stevie Wonders song Loves in need of love today. It is mostly sung by Dami, but I really appreciate that performance.
If you havent seen the recording of John singing Gethsemane (recorded live during the production) then go watch it NOW . Run, dont walk ! It will blow your mind.
Did you notice Russell Morris and Lindsay Field in the cast as well? Russell had a huge hit in the 70’s ? Wth The Real Thing and Lindsay of course was Farnsey’s backing singer for many years. They were all the crème de Le crème at the time. ❤️
Kate Ceberano has beautiful body movements which I suspect she inherited from her father, Tino Ceberano. He’s in his 80s now, renowned as a master of karate. He’s a Filipino who was born in Hawaii. Kate’s mother is Australian. Many of us here are aware that a lot of Filipinos have a natural talent for being good musicians, singers and/or dancers. They’re also known to be excellent chess players.
Nice reaction! Enjoyed this performance. Kate Ceberano songs I would recommend are Bedroom Eyes and Love Dimension. For Noiseworks (Jon Stevens) if you haven't heard them yet: No Lies or Take Me Back.
Russell Morris! Singing in the chorus wearing a blue shirt and green vest at 8:24! Charlie, if you haven't yet listened to Russell Morris sing, you really must.
I am 100% gay, but every time I see Kate look down the camera lense at the end of the song, even my heart melts... This was even more stunning live in the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
Charlie as usual your insight and observations hit home. Check out the performance of Jesus Christ Superstar ddone on NBC here in America. John Legend as Jesus and Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdaline.....Alice Cooper as King Herod just to name a few but the whole live production was Outstanding.......
I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but Everything's Alright is mimed here. Amazing Grace was tacked onto the end (as a live performance) to showcase their vocals. If you want to hear live vocals for Everything's alright - just search for John's 50th Birthday Concert - it's even more amazing live than the recorded version.
Charlie!! I’m 2:15 in to your reaction and I realise that you have never heard of KATE CEBRANO before?!?! OMG you are in for a treat!! And Jon Stevens has not sung his verse yet!! Super excited to see your full reaction 😃😃 and if you’re not attracted to Kate Ceberano you need to check your pulse
Charlie, Kate Ceberano, superb voice, Australian superstar, truly . Kate was already a phenomenon by the time she did this play with the two John’s. Check out her singles “Brave” and “Bedroom Eyes” from the same era…sublime.
Kate was always a free spirit with out a care in the world as a little girl. Her father did some work for my Pop and she would run and dance around in bare feet with Phil in tow. I don't have any memories of Paul but maybe he came later.
Kate is a legend in Oz. Once again, it is sad that the world has never taken Oz music and singers seriously. Pash - song from 1997 by Kate Ceberano, a cool song and great singer to react to. ruclips.net/video/o_kTor63Ihw/видео.html And a couple more of her songs.... Bedroom Eyes - from 1989... ruclips.net/video/BVStfVu_Q8A/видео.html Brave - from 1989... ruclips.net/video/-5Mf4oq5X_Q/видео.html Love Don't Live Here Anymore - from 1985... ruclips.net/video/dTcqcwFJjQw/видео.html
Thanks Charlie! I'll second the suggestion about Kate Cerebrano, Mahalia Barnes and Nikki Costa doing The Real Thing, and while you're at it, Mahalia and the Soul Mates doing Nasty Gal. Big rabbit hole to go down for Kate as well.
Hopefully more people will request more John Farnham songs for you :) You've seemed to have missed him. There are tons more John Farnham songs for you to see. Loved your reaction and your big smile. It's a definitely a great performance of the song. The Australian 1992 Jesus Christ Superstar (JCS for short) production is not one of the most mentioned in the general JCS fan club now days. Probably because this production was not under Webber and Rice. However, it was a big, big hit at the time. It was only meant to run 8 shows (in arenas of around 16,000 people) but shows kept on getting sold out so more shows were arranged. It eventually ran for 84 night in 16 weeks. One million people went and grossed $40 million (AUD). Some people love this version, but there are some people who don't (not everyone loves the same thing). Some are not fans of John Farnham's "over singing" but some people do love that. The whole show is actually on RUclips (the one you reacted to John Farnham's Gethsemane). One reactionary channel actually watched the whole act 1 and act 2. But it's a big request of your time for 40 odd minutes twice. The show isn't on DVD. Obviously John Farnham isn't in the whole show, but the whole cast is fantastic (as you picked up with Kate Ceberano and Jon Stevens). Here are shows anyway: Act 1: ruclips.net/video/JhCCN_pRK7o/видео.htmlsi=Dd__MpRtYBzwuavf Act 2: ruclips.net/video/MXPp558OEys/видео.htmlsi=pJCdesvKFRBq3d5j
Kate Ceberano actually played Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ superstar. John Stevens played Judas Iscariot. He was obviously more concerned with money than actually helping people. And this was actually, a scene where Mary anointed Jesus wins myrrh i’m his feet, full head and hair, because she recognised him as the Christ
Yes Kate played the role of Mary Magdalene who Jesus saved from being stoned to death for adultery....she falls in love with Jesus the man. One other song she sings is "I don't know how to love him" where she realises he isn't just a man. Great reaction Charlie..... Have you seen John do Gethsemane from their final performance on stage in Sydney? It's epic....
This is why critics often say that Australian productions are equal to the best in the world.
2:35..... she has an amazing voice - dead right. Can't wait to see your face when Jon Stevens let rip!!

I seen this production live and it was brilliant. John, Kate and Jon were phenomenal 👏🏼🎉💙
Yes our Kate was a bit sassy in this one , her tone is just heavenly . 😁🇦🇺
I was lucky enough to see this live in Melbourne with my family. A smash hit then and now.
Yes she is Kate Ceberano.
Three Australian icons
Great Aussie talent
Kate and John Stevens have show coming up soon .

That’s our John, Kate and Jon. I miss the real talent.
People don’t have this talent anymore.
And that was live. No miming.
Amazing Grace is live, Everything's Alright was mimed.
Wonderful thank you Charlie ❤❤❤
Hi Charlie! Although Kate is Australian I think her heritage is Philipino! So probably explains her beautiful voice!
Her dad was Hawaiian.
Check out Kate Ceberano - Bedroom Eyes. Great song
Watch ,'Bedroom Eyes' by Kate Cebrano. Brilliant. You will love it.
Here are shows anyway:

If you find Kate Ceberano's voice sensual, check out her song, 'Bedroom Eyes'
Kate Ceberano actually played Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ superstar. John Stevens played Judas Iscariot. He was obviously more concerned with money than actually helping people. And this was actually, a scene where Mary anointed Jesus wins myrrh i’m his feet, full head and hair, because she recognised him as the Christ
💕💕Kate does Jazz type music.💕💕💕Her backing band 🫶has her brother in it.💋💋💋💋💋💋
Live on a Saturday night tv show
And..... Erik Grönwall dropped a cover of "You`re The Voice" a couple of hours ago. Just saying :)
