@@nedgorski I love what you do, and how you try to safely teach people. BUT, (please don't take this the wrong way) I had to laugh at your erection! Funny stuff. Please, Please Please don't stop !
U R really a God of Fireworks Sir. Ned!👌👌👍👍🤘🤘 Yur videos r really brief, informate and very interesting. I too am learning to make some fireworks, specially.. mortar shells. wish me luck. can U pls give me info how to make a star pumping gig at home. Thank U.
Thanks, Rohit. Good luck with your shells. A simple star pump can be made with a piece of pipe/tubing, and a plunger made out of a wood dowel. That can get you started, and then, like the rest of us, unless you are a machinist, you'll probably move on to purchasing commercially available star pumps or star plates. See woodysrocks.com for some examples of those commercial products. Enjoy, ned
Thank U.... one more question i wanted to ask. is it ok to use corn starch without roasting as a binder?? Otherwise how to make dextrin without oven? Is it necessary to add dextrin to granulate BP?? Thank U..
You might be able to use corn starch without converting it to dextrin, as the laundry starch is used to bind the BP slurry on the blackmatch string. I've never tried that, though. Dextrin is readily available and inexpensive here. I don't use any binder, typically, in my BP, though, just wetting it with denatured alcohol or isopropyl alcohol. Making BP that way will be one of the initial lessons in FW 201. ned
Sir. thank U for yur quick response. Can i use paint thinner instead of ip alcohol? out here ip alcohol is quite hard to get. even dxtrin is not available. Today i got corn starch. now wndering how to turn it to dextrin without oven.😆😆😊😊
Paint thinner leaves an oily residue, Rohit. I don't use it in pyro, but there's really only way to find out for sure. I don't think it would be unsafe to try it, in a well ventilated area, but I'm not optimistic about the results.
Although it's possible, making tubes is tricky and challenging. I just purchase tubes, and Caleb at woodysrocks.com will be stocking the ones in this series. In Fireworking, folks have shared their methods and machines for making tubes successfully, so if one wants to explore that option, their brains can be picked. ned
That acute angle on the left side of your set up there would be a no-no in high explosives demo. The acute angle against the point of initiation WILL cause the explosive wave to blow the end of the cord off and stop the second and/or third device from initiating. Apparently Quick match probably doesn’t have as many of those problems due to the slower propagation wave across it. I still try to avoid in my fireworks displays though.
I have never heard this expression and I don't know why but I laugh or at least grin every time ned says "Just a fuzz" !
