front and rear turn signals would be nice.
is there a reason why the headlights in these bikes are all connected to the fender instead of to the frame? if it’s the cables, they could probably arrange the cable management. on the fender you got a lot of road vibration and movement with the suspension.

All good stuff, Citizen. The second charger and seatpost are thoughtful additions by Wired. One other point about battery combiners is that they also work even if the batteries are at different charge levels. It will just use the battery with the most voltage until it drops to the same charge level as the other battery, and then it will draw from both batteries.

    • @randalgoat
      @randalgoat 8 месяцев назад +3

Thanks, was wondering about that! Was also wondering if the bike can run off of just the rear battery, the main battery not installed. And for that matter, if you could have the rear battery in its dock but not all the way seated.
As a side note, for those of us that want a bicycle/motorcyle for riding in street traffic, this bike has the acceleration and top speed to be safe in traffic, but if you're talking 50-75 or more miles running at 30-40mph, the range test I saw at higher speeds indicated that it'd take TWICE as much battery power to go 75 miles.
It's just a matter of time that this new hybrid bike/motorcycle will start appearing. Bikes like the Cruiser could conceivably have a second 20ah battery mount on the TOPSIDE of the main battery!

@randalgoat Yes, you could run it on just the rear battery. But since that pack is 15ah, it's not going to be happy trying to run the 48 amp controller at full power. Even the front 20ah battery will have significant voltage drop under load while trying to supply full power by itself. The combined 35ah of the batteries is the way to use the bike. That will let the batteries live a longer life and supply better performance while you ride.
I think a realistic range estimate for this bike is 50-55 miles at a steady 35mph.

    • @randalgoat
      @randalgoat 8 месяцев назад

@@jimmyjames8736 Hmmmmm.... please elaborate on why running both batteries at once will help to reduce the voltage drop under load. Would you get the same performance if you were using just 1 battery, but a 35ah battery-? Yes, I've heard that sharing the load btw 2 batteries help keep it running cooler and has less wear on the battery, but you're saying it also makes it a stronger performer (greater acceleration and top speed)-?
Also, do you have insights on where the performance gains for acceleration and top speed come from? Apparently, WF got better performance simply by using a 45amp controller instead of the original 40amp. And I heard somebody mention how zippy their ebikes were because they used high drain/current cells. I'm asking 'cause I've bn wondering about building a 3000-5000w hub motor bike at 72V and have bn wondering how big the controller would need to be and even if the QUANTITY of batteries would make a performance difference beyond giving you a longer range. Any other things to optimize motor performance with batteries/controller/??
There's another reviewer, Maximum Charge?, who did a distance check, and with the 20ah battery he got about 20 miles running it hard- that's about a mile per ah! That's the problem with these higher powered motors, the batteries don't begin to keep up for any distance.
I grew up riding motorcycles, so every ebike I've had so far seems very underpowered!

Love seeing the competition and continual upgrades in the ebike world! I've got the previous model Freedom and really like it - I hope they go to a 72V setup next and can give me the ability to cruise consistently at 40mph for when I need to around town in traffic - but also still have the ability to ride slow at like 8mph on trails. That's the dream for me, ultimate commuter+pleasure bike at that point!
While I'm at it making suggestions (in case they read this), here are some other things they might consider:
    - ADD MOUNTING HOLES FOR A FRONT RACK PLEASE!
    - Turn signals included (but make them off the shelf, easily replaceable standardized ones. No proprietary integrated turn signals please because they can break if the bike falls over.)
    - Change that display so polarized glasses don't affect it.
    - Give me more PAS levels, maybe like 7 instead of 5. So I have more granularity in speed levels. But also let me customize how many PAS levels I want enabled. So if I want 3 levels I can have that, or all 7 if I want.
    - Put more charge lights on the batteries. I like to charge my battery up to ~80-90% to preserve the life on it. With only 4 lights on the battery itself, I can't easily tell what percentage it's at. It could be at 51% or 70% and I can't tell without putting it in the bike and turning it on.
    - Maybe a tire upgrade for the speeds we're starting to get up to? I wouldn't want that to increase the weight a whole bunch though...so I'm not sure on this one.
    - On the topic of weight, I think we're nearly at the maximum weight for an ebike. Like, 110lbs with batteries installed should be the absolute max. Otherwise we're starting to get into motorbike territory. And no more than 90lbs without batteries IMO.

Charge the battery while it's in the bike. Turn on the controller, and you'll see the voltage level. Stop charging when you're happy.

Awesome vid, thanks for the follow up details. I actually have a question I'm pretty sure only you can answer - wired chat support didn't seem to know the answer.
How much space is between the rear air shock and the frame gap that it's housed in? Would it be possible to put a D-lock or chain through there? I only ask because using the rear triangle to lock up the step-through seems sketchy since its just the rear suspension bolts keeping the lock in place (instead of a fully enclosed welded frame space).

Does anybody know.......Does Wired offer an optional less aggressive nobby tire more for street and mild offroad? I notice in your video the bike shakes a bit either because of the lobby tires or the suspension. There is quite a bit of noise coming from the tires. That would be annoying on a long street ride. My current bike has aggressive knobbies as well but not as much noise, for some reason. Maybe it's the recording that exaggerates the noise.

The bike makers are not the place to get tires. Ebay and Amazon are your best options for fat tires.
You might like Vee Tire Speedsters for a pavement oriented tire. I like their Zigzag model too. Both of them are very quiet on pavement. The Zigzag is heavier than a Speedster and doesn't accelerate as well but it has thicker tread. The thicker tread helps with durability and flat prevention.
I probably sound like a Vee Tire salesman, but our fat tire brand choices are sadly limited. I haven't had good luck with Kendas. Their Krusade model is loud and flats easy. Their Juggernaut model is the loudest tire I have ridden. Some of my Kendas weren't even round, and I consider that an unforgivable thing to fail at when making a tire. I have started sending emails to Michelin trying to get them to start making 20x4 and 26x4 fat tires. I use Michelins on all my bikes with normal sized tires and they work great.

With power-based, wouldn't 50% power be different on flat ground vs hills? Wouldn't torque sensor always be better in giving you more precise control of your own speed?

Most people like the constant power approach more than torque sensors. Allows you to easily control your speed and pedal for exercise but with the ease of a cadence sensor when you want. my #1 concern is the hill climb ability -
how will this do going up a 23% grade?
my 750 Watt hub drive will go up it on a fresh battery charge.
I ask as the last bit [40 ft or so] of my driveway gets steep at about 23%
most ebikes just poop out & I get off and use the twist throrrle & walk it up.
    a minor annoyance.
Or should I get a mid drive ebike for this?
a top speed being high isnt so important to me. But hill climbing is important for me.
low speed torque is something I can tune my motor bikes for.
and yes top speed is lower, but high speed is not important to me.
#2 is there going to be an inside chain rinf gaurd to prevent the chain from jumping off?

153 newton meters torque and 3kw output will beat your driveway hill down to a manageable size for you. Hub motors climb good if they are being fed lots of watts. I have a 52v mid drive that can pull 1700 peak watts. It will climb anything it can get traction on. But my 3kw hub motor bike climbs the same hills at a higher speed.

The controller for this bike is a 45ah 60v Wired Branded Controller made by Patriot Systems. I couldn't find any info about this company (Patriot). Could there be any thermal issues with the high output controller and the battery balancer stuffed into the small sealed bottom bracket? Also, how do we know if Patriot Systems controllers are any good? Is there any history on this company? The controller is kind of an important component...! The Freedom model mounts theirs externally with a heatsinked case. The E-cells 5 Star also does this. Even E-Cells step through model (closest competitor to the Wired Cruiser) is mounting their controller externally. I hope the unknown controller brand & tight (relatively) unventilated mount location does not come back to bite owners in the butt.

Actually, looks like the e cell frame is prone to rear load induced death wobble. Adding a second battery to an untested frame (AWD wouldn’t exhibit the problem) might prove disastrous. E cells is not testing their bikes, just look at the gates drive and torque sensor fails, so who knows what defects will emerge.

My only complaint would be the appearance of frame welds. My Aventone Aventure 2 frame welds are so smooth, you don't even realize there are welds on it.
With the rear battery, I think I would need the higher seat post since I tend to sit further back on my seat, but what would the MINIMUM height be with that post?? 🤔
