My wife is from Mexico and she puts canned tuna in fried tortillas. The tuna has tomato onion and jalapeno added to it and garlic to taste. They turn out looking like fried empanadas and are fantastic with salsa on top.

We make "ensaladilla" that is a salad made of mainly tuna, green peas, boiled potatoes, boiled eggs and boiled carrots with a mayonnaise sauce. You can add whatever greens you want and maybe olives and asparagus. It's very popular in Spain and in my country too

Hello and thank you for the video! 😁
I don't know about the tuna, I hadn't tasted it until a year ago when my boyfriend tried making tuna patties.
I mostly grew up eating either salmon or whatever my grandfather and I would catch when we would go fishing.
(Like Pike, Perch or Rainbow Trout.)
Carrot here is mostly eaten grated or shredded raw like a side dish to for example meat patties and mashed potato along with a dollop of Lingonberry jam on the side.
I will sometimes slice carrot into a salad as well or just straight up peel the carrot and eat as is.
In school cafeterias there is almost always a bowl full of raw grated carrot as a side dish.
I want to try rolled omelet with minced green onion sometime!
And lotus root really do look like it would be tasty! I have never tried lotus root, but it reminds me of water-chestnuts (Direct translation, don't know how accurate it is).
Anyway I hope you have a nice day! 😄

Kabotcha squash is easy available in the Netherlands. Most supermarkets sell them in fall. It's named different though. Over here it is named green hokkaido pumpkin or green kuri pumpkin. Red kuri and butternut are even more common.
Not sure about the japanese sweet potato though. Maybe i can find them at the local asian store.

It seems that about half of the kabocha produced in Japan come from Hokkaido and several other prefectures also produce kabocha. I often see kabocha from Hokkaido at grocery stores too :)
Maybe most of the kabocha exported overseas are from Hokkaido...?!

I think you may have underestimated exactly how lazy we Americans are. Lol. That seems like a lot of work so early in the day. You asked about canned tuna...I grew up eating it a lot! But, as an adult, I went to a Japanese Steakhouse here in the US and had my first tuna sashimi and fell in love. I haven't been able to eat canned tuna since that day! It's just not the same. My mom used to use canned tuna for sandwiches, pasta, tuna patties (like your hamburg steak but with canned tuna), and other dishes that I can't remember.
I have tried natto, twice. I had the normal package and dried natto. Yuck! Sorry, I tried but the smell was horrible and I just didn't like the taste, either. I have heard that you either love it or hate it, no in-between. As always, I absolutely love your videos; please keep them coming!

    • @JapaneseCookingChannel

Haha! That's right, canned tuna and tuna sashimi are completely different! The tuna dishes your mother used to make are some of my favorites too :)
About the natto, like you say, "you either love it or hate it, no in-between." I think that's true. I'm the one who love it! But, I can understand why people don't like natto 😂
Thank you so much for always watching my channel, and teaching me about things in the US. Your comment is always encouraging me and really helpful. Thank you again, and have a great weekend! Take care 😊
