Just bought myself my first rod that came with braid , reel and lures . Put the reel on the rod ,line on the reel, lure on the line and then finger onto lure . Technically my first ever catch was me.

i’ve been fishing for a year and never had a problem with this, suddenly a week ago on a really hot day the bass were going crazy when i brought them out of the water, got hooked 8 times and hooked past the barb while the fish was still on, was scared to even catch one, this helps a lot

Thanks Glenn. I've just recently caught a few fish on cranks, a red and brown wiggle wort and a rapala dt6, after trying last year for the first time with no luck. I agree, a net and pliers are a must. And, following your suggestion, I took some line off my spinning reel and the wind knots have pretty much stopped. Thanks for the tips!

It is quite amazing what a little preparedness and thinking can do on the water ... Makes fishing so much better not having swollen hands from getting barbed by hooks a million and one times. As you can see I've learned this the hard way many moons ago.... Been a very big believer in the net and pliers.

Excellent video. I use a net as well. I fish out of a kayak so I'm basically at water level, so that helps. I remove the hooks while the fish is in the net. Then toss lure out of the way and then handle the fish. You are spot on about the fish usually flinching. Grab them firm and hold on!

Been fishing a couple dozen years myself and never hooked myself with a crank bait. I have hooked a few friends though...LOL. Like you said the rod is a loaded spring with a fish on it and thats exactly how I hooked others, the fish came of the crank bait and flung behind me to where my partner fishes from.
That is exactly how I remove the hooks (needle nose pliers). Always have some available. Great tip!!
