This is terrific. I live in a large NY apt building. At this moment I've decided to take my rug to the roof top and scrub it there. After that I'm going to leave it to dry in the sun (I'm not worried about fading or bird droppings).

Because that fabric softener is going to act like a sponge for dirt and grime. Had you just rinsed well and not used the fabric softener, dirt would vacuum up easier whereas now, it will literally stick to the rug.
I have so many regrets for trying this video. I think the carpet on the video is thin, I have a very thick one and I am quite petite. That was a struggle and my arms are sore from the effort, it was nearly impossible to carry!! These things get 10 times heavier when they're wet
Next time make sure to take a break in between and don't carry it alone but if you do want to Carry it alone I would recommend investing some time into shoulder and arm strengthening, if you can

Every year I just threw it gave someone who had the time to wash. We don’t have shoes in our homes and hoover everyday. I tried to wash one like this in my little bathroom and cleaned it. It hurt my back but worth it. The carpet cleaner wanted more money than I even paid it new so idid the work myself.
Don't do this in an apartment . U will flood the people under you, tile grout lets water through !! I do this in the bathtub. I start with putting one end in and clean that and gradually clean inwards , at the end the whole rug is in the tub. Then start rinsing the end u just finished and move backwards brushing out the water from it , filling up the floor with the clean rug. then I would suggest jumping on it with clean rags and hanging it outside

I bring the rug outside, buff it or brush it with a lot of shampoo then raise it with clean water then dry it by expose it to sun at least 1 or 2 days otherwise I feel it's not clean at all .. sorry mam I can't do what you did

Any liquid detergent u can use and quantity depends upon the sizes and dirty of carpet. I use one cup in one bucket water.
