I think Medina's airs are more calculated than a lot of the others out there and he plants the landings so accurately too. All around one of my favorite surfers!

The three best surfers I have ever see to personally surf at my 53 years old. Tom Curren, Andy Irons and Gabriel Medina. They have a different energy than other surfers, a kind of numen that causes various types of reactions in those who saw them surfing in and out of the water. I would love to see the three surfers surf together in a classic sea, but unfortunately that became impossible with the early death of Irons. It would be epic!

No surfer in history has had a more diverse repertoire of handle in all types of waves. kelly never even had the amount of tricks gabe has in his bag
@infoslinger The same way Kelly surfed rounds better than his previous generation, Medina has a sizeable difference ahead of his seniors. Medina has dominated every single type of wave that the tour has put in his front, doing moves Kelly didn't do at his time. Of course you have to compare the current top surfer to the former one, people did it with kelly/curren when kelly was brought up in the scene. Kelly has an impressive ability, maybe the best to ever exist, but he is too old to keep up with nowadays required skills. Its understandable though: different boards, different approach to waves, new moves that people didn't do at Kellys time. What we are seeing now is a true revolution in the sport the same way Momentum generation changed it two decades ago.
John John can do everything he can and with better style.
JJF has the same bag of tricks and if you look at the old footage Kelly ripped harder and timelessly at that.

These best of Clips get better every time I watch them. So much to learn and so much to enjoy... It's really amazing how easy talented in Elite surfer's that have put in years of work to Surf so fluidly make surfing at that level look like it anybody can do it which is not true...
It's so amazing how Gabriel Medina can rip the face apart, Shred the lip, and go in the air and land flawlessly anytime he wants to and to link all those different Maneuvers together like he's just walking his dog down the street the, so easy so impressive...
It's a little challenging relating to a goofy footer but none the less props and much respect goes out to Gabriel Medina...
I know I said time and time again but I'm so thankful for the world surf League you can Channel because now and forever I can see what Top Notch surfing looks like enjoy watching it.
When I go go to my local beachbreak there might be one or two people that are kind of good but nothing like what I will ever see on World Surf League videos...
It makes me appreciate surfing so much more being able to watch all the CT events live and to be inspired to improve my own personal surfing to know that I can keep getting better and do cooler Maneuvers and have more fun.
I see what's possible in becoming a better Surfer by taking the time to learn and putting practice in and all the hard work it takes to be good at something you want to do...

Yeah really, that's a heavy claim. It's not like he's blowing away his top-tier competition. I'm not so sure he's better than John John Florence and he certainly doesn't have as good of a style. Slater invented the shit they are all doing and has dominated for over three generations. Giving GABE the goat title is absolutely ridiculous

Medina melhor da geração sem duvidas, com manobras aereas espectaculares (melhor da geração), visão de tubo espetacular e execução tambem, e manobras de bordas em lugares criticos, com muita força... O equilibrio do gabriel eh inacreditavel, sua abilidade de pousar aereos é surreal. Fazer backflips como faz naturalmente hoje, eh de outro mundo.

Gosto de TDS surfistas brasileiros com essa variação de aéreos, etc. Mas Medina têm o dom, é tipo Michael Jackson dançando, muito natural, pra ele é como andar. TDS brasileiros que estão no topo fazem igual. Mas pra ele parece normal. Sou fã do Italo pela simpatia e esforço e raça. Mas Medina nasceu pra isso. Só controlar o psicológico, treinar o físico, o dom ele tem. Parabéns tinha parado de ver os campeonatos, pq as manobras estavam muito iguais. Esses variações de aéreos, e manobras do skate na água, mudou tudo. Pra assistir ficou show.

That first wave reminds me of how Medina surfed before he joined the tour, connecting several small but highly technical carves and airs at insane speed. Now his surf is more vertical and more explosive, but not as fun to watch.
There was his second event he surfed,won being 17. He was a skinny kid with pimples all over his face.Since that time he probably gain at least 12 up to 15 Kg.He is not as fast like these 3 waves at the beginning,but his bottom turns, and barrels are much better,he can be punched in the barrel and doesn't fall. Also his backside improved in a big way. One thing didn't chance,the haters are still on. Since they can't say he wins only doing airs,can't surf on big nasty barrel waves and so on. They set a meeting to find some new nasty words to call him, Now serious is about time to Cjarlie step aside and let him do it on his own,maybe get a real coach to guide him,not someone telling him to win in an ugly way something he already had.

No ano seguinta a esse seu comentário, Medina virou homem, mandou uma banana pro Charlie e companhia e contratou um técnico de verdade! Resultado: teve o melhor ano da sua vida e do seu surf competitivo. O talento do Medina foi tão mal utilizado com o Charlie como técnico que eu arrisco a dizer que já era para o Medina ter sido Pentacampeão mundial.

Um bom técnico em esporte individual a primeira regra é deixar a cabeça em paz , alegre , solto não ficar pensando em como ganhar a qualquer custo . Foi o que o Aussie falou quando lhe perguntaram que tipo de conselho deu para melhorar o surf dele . Conselho para melhorar , como posso melhorar o melhor do mundo . Só conversamos sobre a condição do mar e no fim falo , vai lá e se diverte faz o que ninguém faz melhor do que você , na verdade é muito fácil . Foi o que nós todos vimos , um Medina surfando suas baterias como estivesse em casa free surfing . Sem aquela luta por prioridade as vezes meio sujo , melhor ver aéreos , tubos e até back flip literalmente having fun . Nada de interferência desnecessária . Me lembro que ele mesmo ficou meio perdido olhando para os lados escutando aquilo contra o Caio , acho que ali caiu a ficha de vez . Não tiro o mérito do Charlie até um certo ponto , agora deveria ter partido dele falar e fazer o garoto seguir seu caminho . Agora toda essa coisa feia que esta acontecendo é triste , mas com certeza mesmo com essa roupa sendo mal lavada . É bem melhor ao terminar sua bateria ganhando ou perdendo , sair e ter uma Yasmin enchendo você de beijos do que olhar para um carrancudo Charlie rrsrsrs.
@@markriobr Cara, verdade. Ele está bem mais leve e solto, sem aquela pilha de começar a marcar os caras no começo de bateria. E concordo com vc, não podemos tirar os méritos do Charlão na moldagem competitiva que o Medina teve, mas funcionou até um determinado ponto. Comparo Charlão com aquele técnico brasileiro meia boca que o Gustavo Kurten teve no tênis, esqueci o nome dele agora. Quantos campeonatos o Guga poderia ter ganho se tivesse um técnico nível top com ele?! Então tem males que vem para o bem. Esse lance todo triste da briga em família, serviu pra ele perceber que ainda tem muito pra evoluir com um técnico que consiga tirar o melhor dele.
