I was friends with a couple and when the husband died it was assumed by many who knew us we would get together since I was single. But I just couldn't, she was my friends wife to me. I have read several books on the Kennedys, and about Robert and Jackie as well, Nothing was ever proved, there were rumors, but on author (I forgot which one) said he doubted, Bobby idolized his brother, and he would have looked at it as a betrayal. It is true that Jackie and Bobby got very close after Kennedy was killed, and Ethel was jelous of that, but it is not the same as an affair. i'm not a kennedy......i've had married women hit on me since i was 15 years old. now 74 it still happens. i banged my neighbor three days before she got married. females are easy. when i got back from vietnam in 1969 within two months i had nailed not one but two moms of buddies of mine. i was 22 and they were both in their forties and married. women are easy. i have a simple line that works 99%of the time.

Divorce is not an easy thing especially when you have children. Espeically with high profile families who would be front page headlines. At the time Ethel and RFK were married their divorce would have been splashed on the front of all the news papers. Had I been in her shoes I might have made the same decision. I cannot judge her for doing what she felt she should do.

You are correct that the Skakels were wealthy. Both of her parents died tragically in a plane crash after she married Bobby. One of Ethel & Bobby’s children (possibly Rory) made a very touching documentary about their life. It was obvious that years after Bobby’s death, Ethel was still very much in love with him. She never remarried and survived both her husband and 2 of their sons (one died of an overdose, the other from an accident). Women in those days often turned a blind eye to their husbands’ affairs. Maybe they even convinced themselves that the cheating made things easier. In any event, it is ridiculous for anyone to suggest that Ethel was trapped in a loveless marriage when all evidence points to the contrary. They were married for 18 years & had 11 children together. Ethel was pregnant with their youngest when Bobby was killed.

Since Ethel truly loved Bobby and was willing to pay the price, I think it was wise of Ethel to have stayed in the marriage. Divorce is not an easy thing especially when you have children. Espeically with high profile families who would be front page headlines. At the time Ethel and RFK were married their divorce would have been splashed on the front of all the news papers. Had I been in her shoes I might have made the same decision. I cannot judge her for doing what she felt she should do.

Now that I agreed. 11 child births. After I had our first child, my husband witnessed the trauma I went through, told me we didn't have to have any more children.

The Skakels were wealthy but likely not at the Kennedy level. RFK first dated Ethel's sister and later went overseas on a work assignment. When RFK returned, Ethel's sister married someone else.
You are correct that the Skakels were wealthy. Both of her parents died tragically in a plane crash after she married Bobby. One of Ethel & Bobby’s children (possibly Rory) made a very touching documentary about their life. It was obvious that years after Bobby’s death, Ethel was still very much in love with him. She never remarried and survived both her husband and 2 of their sons (one died of an overdose, the other from an accident). Women in those days often turned a blind eye to their husbands’ affairs. Maybe they even convinced themselves that the cheating made things easier. In any event, it is ridiculous for anyone to suggest that Ethel was trapped in a loveless marriage when all evidence points to the contrary. They were married for 18 years & had 11 children together. Ethel was pregnant with their youngest when Bobby was killed.

It appears Ethel wanted to stay with Bobby, no matter how many affairs Bobby had during their marriage. Since Ethel truly loved Bobby and was willing to pay the price, I think it was wise of Ethel to have stayed in the marriage. We have to remember Jackie was willing to stick it out when Jack had so many affairs.

Ethel was a saint. Hope she was not caught up in”all these women want him and I have him” Nah! She was a smart woman! How can you love someone to that extent? Well they had 11 kids. I understand all the sex….but 11 kids! It does not make sense. Maybe she wanted to follow in Rose’s path. Yeah I don’t even began to understand this at all! I have done so much reading on the Kennedys and this does not make sense!!!

She accepted his weakness for other women and she held on to the marriage. Looking back, on how things turned out, I believe she made the correct decision and stayed with him.

I agree. I find that several of the yt etc presenters lack familiarity with their topic, oddly. They mispronounce names and other words because they've never heard them. For example, Lee Remick was a big star. This would've been explosive if people knew back then. And Claudine Longet, who call lon-gett, was a tv darling until the murder case.

I have a relative who idolized JFK and probably RFK too. He was in college when JFK was killed and traveled to DC for the public ceremony. He would get really defensive and mad when rumors of his infidelity would be mentioned on TV.

I actually picked that name before I was even pregnant. We were waiting for our flight back home after our honeymoon. I said to my husband I was going to name our first daughter Kim Natalie (after Kim Novak and Natalie Wood.) Wonder what I would have done if we had a boy instead.

He’s got it!”

Why didn't Ethel leave Bobby? My guess is Ethel thought that having 11 children with him would eventually solidify his commitment to her. Or, she hoped he'd be president, so she'd become first lady. Finally, the money, fame and prestige kept her hanging on.

I hate this.....not the dirty laundry, but dragging someone's life through the mud, especially when those same people have no scruples whatsoever. We will all face judgement because we are all sinners. I think RFK Jr. changed and walked away from those things. Why is it such a shock to anyone, especially those in Hollywood, when they are guilty of more. This is just so low, people. We don't require a saint to lead us but someone that knows how to run a business, in this case, the USA. It is wrong to do it to RFK, Jr. and wrong to do it to Kamala Harris. What people do in their private lives , for the most part, is no ones business unless they are breaking the law.
