    Military standards are a great example of “Schrodinger’s Feminism” in action. People will argue that women should be allowed in the Infantry because they can do all the same things as men if they dedicate themselves.. while at the same time justifying the lower standards for women that exist in the first place by saying “well they’re just biologically different so they need to be lower”.

    • @Lobardan

      Men are more than just physically strong. Look at MMA Guru's videos making fun of Juliana Pena and Amanda Nunes. Pena runs at Nunes windmill punching like a toddler after 15 years of training. Men have better reaction time and perform under stress much more efficiently. That fight is the highest level of women's MMA. You don't even see that in low level men's MMA. Even street beefs channel. Women are emotional. They are social creatures and all of their attributes don't transfer to combat well

      Allowing lower physical standards for females (or anyone, it SHOULD be offered to anyone if it's offered to females) should require higher standards elsewhere. In middle school females could run slower than males, but they had to do way better on the stretches tests. So the military lets them do less push ups, sit ups, slower runs etc... So where are the higher standards that evens it out? If they can't do 30 pushups, but can speak 7 languages, or have a crazy high academic score that relates to the specific job, then I'm 110% for it, but if it's JUST lowered standards and no pros? No respect. Not every job requires 30 pushups, some require other skills, make the specific job require what it needs, no matter the gender.

This was back in 1988 though, right before the Soviet Union collapsed. We had guys with Marty Feldman eyes, colorblind, missing a digit on the non-firing hand, or other minor issues, but all could hang and this was in the Infantry. • @chipsthedog1
    @chipsthedog1 Год назад +2

    If you want to be treated equal then you should be treated equal on all things. Also I do not believe there should be a super tough limit just to get in but at the end of basic training if you have not improved to the acceptable mark then fair enough you are out. I bet there are people who might be overweight/unfit/weak when they sign up but want it bad enough to put in the work and bring themselves up to scratch & people that are willing to work harder because they know they need to catch up might be just the kind of soldier you would want next to you in a hairy situation. If people are laughing at you and writing you off but you refuse to quit and go that extra mile just to join then I would think you are made of the right stuff.
    I know it would take time and money to allow recruits that are below par to still join but you could have them all in one company who agree not to be paid until passing out, food and equipment would be all you get until you prove yourself capable. This would ensure only people that are really serious about reaching the acceptable level would sign up.
    If I am completely missing something that makes this impossible (V. Likely) then someone should open a bootcamp where aspiring recruits pay to spend 8 weeks getting trained to the standard needed to join their chosen force. Not only would this make money but would also give people 8 weeks to see if they are sure they really are up for the challenge ahead.
    I need to stop writing comments when I'm stoned they tend to ramble on so long they need chapters.
    Sorry 🚭

    white phase - still getting smoked, but the drill sergeants have less time to smoke since you are shooting and exercising so much
    blue phase - still get smoked but always ends up being a fun session where the drill sergeants are just having fun, this is mostly finishing up requirements to graduate
    between white and blue you will do like an 11 mile ruck march with about 3 10 minute breaks
    the most you will run at a time in the army is 2 miles, most PT sessions are at most 2 miles of running and you will only run like 2 times a week

    See it's not just about your ability to do the tasks. It's also they don't want to make your injuries worse then be on the hook insurance wise even when you get out. An officer friend explained it to me. They had a real problem with people getting through the screening and then claiming all these insurance claims for alements then all had. Cost the military a lot and still does to this day so they refuse people with exisiting conditions more on this fact then ability to perform the tasks. They don't wanna get taken for a ride by people who hide conditions and use the military hospitals and insurance to get it sorted. Then they would leave as soon as they could but they still get the benefits at least here in Australia.
    So it's not a physical thing when you are rejected for breaking a bone or something like asthma. They don't want the risk of cost to their premium. Which is massive already.

    Assuming 18-23 year old age range:
    APFT Push-Up minimums:
    Men = 42
    Women = 19
    ACFT (the current fitness test) "hand-release push-ups" mininums:
    Men = 10
    Women = 10
    For push-ups, they have made it gender neutral now
    However, in the ACFT, women still have lesser standards for everything else, including the deadlift...

    When I went through boot camp I knew it's all I had. It made it alot easier knowing there's not much of a choice. I sucked at running but I ran and ran knowing the only choice was to make it or pass out. I would say the cold was the worst pain. My boot camp officially started in the beginning of January and it snowed a few times. Being outside in general was punishment. I miss aspects of bootcamp, you see sides of people you would never see outside of it.

    When I was in the army I could walk the 2 miles in the time the women had to "run". My numbers may be off cause it's been so long, but at 21yo I had to run 2 miles in 15:30, I believe. Women had almost 21 minutes. Same with pushups and situps. Atrocious standards. I thought the men's standards were too low tbh.
    Also, just lie about your medical history when you join. They don't call every hospital in the u.s. to make sure you aren't lying.

    The thing is, at least for the Canadian forces. Is every career path does the same basic. Infantry members are right next to clerks and dentists. So boot camp is useless, for us it’s 10 weeks and the first 5 you go over sexual assault and basic things like ranks. You learn to March, you get uniform on week 6, you learn to see, you get a gun on week 7-8, you start 5k rucks and jogging a couple times a week (like 2-3 times) and don’t get ammo and you learn to keep it within reach at all times and not point it at people, week 9 you learn to shoot targets. Week 10 is a drill in the field where you camp for a couple days and staff show up and fire blanks and make you go for a run. And from the us forces guys I’ve seen at basic, they say we have a harder time for qualifications basic military ( and officers) qualification

    Carrying 120lbs on your back and then running isn't very hard. They should lower the standard for basic + make it gender neutral to get more women and then keep it job specific after that. Positions like drill sergeant, sniper, interrogator or gunner wouldn't be harder for women at all, they may be even better fit for it. When it comes to infantry or sec ops commandos tho..
