    Update: I am aware that I was incorrectly pronouncing Episcia wrong. Thank goodness this video isn’t about how to pronounce the word EPISCIA 😉. Also just to clarify since there has been some confusion😆. I am not a “Expert” in the genus of Episcia nor did I even mention it in my video. I am just sharing with you what works for me as I have been growing these plants for years. If this video isn’t helpful don’t worry I’m just a click away from one that might be more of your liking. That’s the great thing about RUclips…you have options 😆🌿.

    I have one of these I got from a friend. I’ve been growing it by trial and error. Hates direct sun. Learned that the hard way! When I put it under a grow light it just took off. The leaves are huge and lush. It’s probably my favorite plant now. So responsive. In a strange way, it feels more alive than some of my other plants.

    I just got my first Episcia a few days ago. It looked so much like an African violet I felt I would be able to grow it. Sadly, the person in the plant store didn’t know anything about it, but my plant sister put me on the right track. Your video was just what I needed to learn about my new plant. Thank you - I will be subscribing to your channel.

      Well it was great. Its just even with myself I shy away from "plant hauls". I mean, "The Roadrunner" could go buy plants and film it. But what you did is harder and takes longer! Yet, folks are starved for knowledge and your vids- even the one where you made shelves and hangy things- count as 'how to'. Just pick a category as you have time and category of interest at a time and you will succeed!
      Even with my lesser knowledge I could do this and outrate some of the flash in the pan plant start up sites where they go buy a zillion plants and then - nothing. (It means their plants all perished I guess!)
      But I do animal rescue and support animal shelters. With my church we have a homeless ministry where we take care of needy in south Atlanta every Monday and Tuesday. The shelter is in Greece, near where I was stationed in the usaf years ago.
      Here is a cute video to Takis Shelter on Crete in Greece! Stay sweet, Jay!!!🌿

      Oh no sorry to hear that your plant isn't doing well. The browning can be caused by a number of things. When I've experienced leaf browning it was normal due to lack of water. These don't do too well if they go too long without watering. Leaves will shrive up and turn brown and crispy.

      Tameka Hill yes it’s near the humidifier but the foliage doesn’t get wet. You don’t want water to sit on the leaves. Hello there 🌿. Try removing the damage leaves and prune off any dead parts. If the stems of the plant is still firm and the roots are still healthy than don’t give up hope. The plant is still alive.

      With you having them in direst sunlight they will need more water. However, I do know some types will not grow well in direct sunlight.

    How do you apply the 14-14-14 fertilizer?

    • @aGirlwithaGarden
      @aGirlwithaGarden  2 года назад

      To apply the slow-release fertilizer you just sprinkle it on top of the soil like sprinkles on ice cream 😉🌿

      @@aGirlwithaGarden I read a lot about the plant, and I just remove some brown leafs and put them in shade, with only 1 hour of sun in the morning and now they have baby leafs so i guess they are better, thankyou for asking❤️

      Florianne Bantug Thank you so much! I had had a hard time finding Episcia. They aren’t often sold here locally in plant stores but I bought mine from a plant show near me last spring. Sometimes you can find these at Lowe’s

    What is a "sta-loon"? I don't believe I've ever heard that word used to describe this sort of growth pattern.

      The Episcia stolons are those small plants on the end of runners.

    What insecticide do you use with this plant?

    • @aGirlwithaGarden
      @aGirlwithaGarden  3 года назад

      Jeslie Jess I haven’t needed to use any insecticide on these plants as I haven’t ran into any pests. Are you experiencing pests on your Episcias?

    If you're going to put yourself out there as an Episcia expert please learn the correct pronunciation and maybe invest in a botanical latin dictionary. Episcia is pronounced ih-pish-ee-uh or ee-pish-ee-uh and stolon is stow-lun not stay-loon.

      Hello D. Freier, I never mentioned in my video or in the text that I was an "Episcia Expert" so I'm sorry for the confusion. I am aware that my pronunciation was incorrect at the time. Thanks for the recommendation to the latin dictionary and thank for your input.
