How to Use Nic-A-Date to Restore Dates on Nickels. First and foremost, please understand that using an acid like Nic-A-Date to restore a date on a nickel will eliminate MOST of the numismatic value. Also, just because the date shows up after application, it is likely that in a year or two it will vanish again. Because of this, we are only doing this to see if we have any semi-key or key date coins that have some numismatic value even after nic-a-dating them. At best, you will maintain about 10-20% of the Blue Book value... Hope you enjoy this video! RobFindsTreasure wondering if a dollar coin hunt is coming up.. my bank ordered them instead of my 2 boxes of halves and the dollar coin box was great! Finally finished all my dollar coin albums! Kept missing the few NIFC years and even found some American innovations dollars! Pretty fun but now waiting for my halves.....
I've learned that using nic a date that rinsed properly then dried properly you can use coconut lard in which I've learned to rubbed the whole coin in a tiny amount of this lard and I let breathe for days and I noticed I've stopped the Nic a date and it hasn't left a mark where I even used nic a date. I sit it on a old flip I use to see if any oil is left behind once the coin is dry of nic a date water and lard. Shocking results.
Rob: You should see the date right there! Me: *squinting, pausing the video, getting my face a millimeter from the screen, sending footage off to be professionally edited to make as high resolution and clear as possible* "I don't see it."
Love those sheild nickles.... wonderfull ornate detail on it. When they were newly minted the must have been stunning to look at. Nice job bringing it back to life.
Loved this one Rob. Pretty amazing how it brought those Shields Deats! Nice. If you know the coins not a money coin at least you can see some details and verify the date....
Rob, or anyone. If you're looking for a more precise way to apply Nic-A-Date, look up "Fine Line Fluid Writer Paint Applicator Pen" it's what car detailers are using to touch up paint chips applies 0.5mm size drops.
My question is how does this actually work. I find it hard to believe that the acid actually eats away the nickel in the coin. If it did the acid would also eat through the wipe and plastic that the bottle is made of. My theory is cupronickel is not the only compound on the buffalo nickel.
Sup Rob! Hey, do you do anything AFTER the lightest application of Nic-A-date, as far as removing it? I saw the light wipe with a cloth, but mine always get dark after time. I put them in my NAD album, so I know what’s what, because like you said, they lose the date again after a while. I just want to avoid the ‘black mark’ it leaves afterwards, if at all possible to reduce that color/darkness.
Hi Rob just a quick question: I have a 1969 S Nickel. However at the bottom it also reads FS. I TRIED ASKING HALF DOLLA MAKE YA HOLLAR BUT they’re too busy. I used to watch them before cancer and now they have a popular show. They’ve forgotten me. Please let met know if you know what’s up with the FS. Thanks for your time. Johnny
WOW very informative. That Shield nickel could have been held by Robert E Lee he didn't die until 1870. Very nice on the 1913. There's a lot of people who don't have that in their collection that's definitely worth $8 even in nic-a-date condition. Keep your eye out for the Rosie 2018 d with a insect on the leaf. MS 65 $15000.
If you believe in rolling the dice and taking a chance on life just think of what the people are doing in NYC you can't go in the door with your shoes on. Coins are the most dirtiest thing we hold
Yeah there are some good finds, but you really gotta watch how much you put on the coin. I mean, a dab will do ya well. Some of these are WAY over done. I know first hand from my local lcs, they would pay far less for some of the over acid used on those. I would use a tooth pic or at least get used to using that bottle better....
Important and obvious question, how long do you leave the nic-a-date on the date of a buffalo? I saw that the shield nickel got 15 minutes, but I suspect that's longer than you need to give a buffalo. I've been inspired by you. I ordered some nic-a-date from Amazon last night and then did a census of a pile of buffalos outside of my three albums. Found 16 dateless coins. Looks like someone tried to date two of them so they might be hopeless. Your mat also inspired me to recheck all my 1935 Philly coins, about 50 of them, for DDR. Nope. Good stuff to do while locked in. Walking dogs, minor chores and watching RUclips have been pretty much my activities over the last week.
cool video :D that one coin with the nic-a-date all over the obverse was so cringe Lol. i havent ever done this, but ive started collecting my dateless buffalos in a roll for if i ever decide to get some of that :)
Rob I have about a dozen dateless buffalos at home and have wanted to nic-a-date them. How long do you leave the solution on, or does it depend on how bad the coin is?

Rob you need to wash that niccadate off not wipe it off you wipe away a lot of detail
i know I am kind of off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?
@Archer Kayson try flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Santiago Ezekiel Yea, I've been using flixzone for months myself =)
your the best in the bizz rob
Great video Rob, thanks
Might as well
Now this is something I've always been curious about!
Enjoying watching all your videos!
Amazing, thanks for sharing
How illuminating!
Awesome Video!!
My school got shut down and I’m pretty happy to be watching your videos while I’m stuck at home

interesting - may give it a whirl on an old nic-a-dated coin.
Just got a bottle in the mail, thanks rob!!!
This is an oldie but a goodie. A little dab will do ya for sure. This stuff is rather interesting to say the least.
Great video. Buffalo nickels are just a beautiful coin. Never knew about the nic a date. Gonna have to try that out
One of the best videos you could have made.
Thanks for video. I have a lot of no date buffalos.
Rob: You should see the date right there!
Me: *squinting, pausing the video, getting my face a millimeter from the screen, sending footage off to be professionally edited to make as high resolution and clear as possible* "I don't see it."
Love your videos
Nice vid👌
Awesome video Rob!
That shield nickel cane back nicely! Glad you did the experiment.
I used to use nic-a-date but I don't like ruining coins now. Now I'm looking up the die varieties of each date to determine the date.
For example the 1925 S is easy to identify because it's the only date that has parallel ribbons at the top
Love those sheild nickles.... wonderfull ornate detail on it. When they were newly minted the must have been stunning to look at. Nice job bringing it back to life.
so cool rob keep on keepin on bud
Great video Rob - I love that you make videos to help educate as well as entertain, top quality!
2:49 no
I received my silver from JSSE 4. Thank you very much Rob.
Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for the info brother.... keep em coming
How can you see the dates?
Loved this one Rob. Pretty amazing how it brought those Shields Deats! Nice. If you know the coins not a money coin at least you can see some details and verify the date....
It’s been awhile but I’m back rob !!
Thanks Cayden!
I have a nic-a-dated 1918/7-D. Acid treated to death, but legit and a decent album filler.
Thanks for the video, I need to get some nic a date. That’s amazing how the v nickel transformed!
Great video. I need to learn as much as possible. Gotta get me some Nik-A-Date. Thanks Rob.
Hey Rob! I bought 30 dateless v nickels and found 2 1883 type 2 and a 1886 ( key date) !
Interesting
I couldn’t see any date on any of those Buffalo nickels lol
Is it safe to use on silver? I have a Canadian dime that's rubbed. Just looking for date.
No. Only on nickels.
What is Nic-a-Date made from?
Just for shiggles you should put Nic-A-Date on a regular nickel and let it set overnight
Omg Rob Plz do all of your nickels this was soooo cool
Cool finds!
How come some people dip the whole nickel in the product? What could be their reason behind it??
Good videos Rob keep up the great finds
Stop finding key dates and semi-key dates! I’m getting jealous!
Rob, or anyone. If you're looking for a more precise way to apply Nic-A-Date, look up "Fine Line Fluid Writer Paint Applicator Pen" it's what car detailers are using to touch up paint chips applies 0.5mm size drops.
Does the date go away after this?
Great video Rob. Love doing this same thing myself. Most of my Buff album is nic-a-dated. I am really impressed with the V nickel.
Cool video, I was actually going to make this video while I’m quarantined lol
hey rob, can you do a video over your buffalo nickel collection?
I just found my first silver quarter a 1964 in probably au to ms condition in only roll #2 and I just finished a penny box with 16 wheats
Nicely done! Rolls are tough for silver, but it's never a bad thing to find one! Silver is silver!
@@silveremperor1287 thank you I'm about 30 rolls in and I found a second silver 1952 s
@@yieldingtreasurehunters3345 Not bad at all! I rarely find silver in rolls, so two is definitely an odd box! Keep an eye out for more!
How long do you wait for it to work
Nic-a-date..google thinks ur staying something wayyy diff. I looked up at my TV and said "that's not what Rob just said"
Love how the nic-a-date can bring a Shield Nickel back to life!
Instead of using a flat blade screwdriver, could you use a wooden toothpick?
Treasure Hunting with The Godfather yes
Water or milk?
What’s the best thing to use to clean my metal detected nickels. Just so that I can give them back to the bank.
Nic a date comes in handy. A couple months ago I nic a dated about a hundred buffalo nickels and found a 1915 S with a mintage of 1.5 million.
My question is how does this actually work. I find it hard to believe that the acid actually eats away the nickel in the coin. If it did the acid would also eat through the wipe and plastic that the bottle is made of. My theory is cupronickel is not the only compound on the buffalo nickel.
“So you don’t damage the coin”
Uses screwdriver
I got 20 buffalos without dates, one was a 1913 D var. 2!
VERY NICE!
Where are you getting your prices on the 1868 nickel? My 2020 bluebook says $20 in G-4 condition.
Sup Rob! Hey, do you do anything AFTER the lightest application of Nic-A-date, as far as removing it? I saw the light wipe with a cloth, but mine always get dark after time. I don’t but I heard a light soak in distilled white vinegar helps.
I just bought and nika dated most of 400 nickels off ebay, ugh

I could see squat on the 1919.
Great video!
I would have liked to see some of the Buffalo dates through the scope.
Thanks for the instructional!

Thumbs 👍
Rob, do you use anything on any old us silver coin's if your having a hard time seeing the dates ?
Hello! How can I buy it, if I live in Russia?
I finally found my first baffalo yesterday
Nice video Rob! Stay healthy, and I’ll catch you stream soon! 👍
Wow! That’s so cool!!
Why don't you use a toothpick or something to make sure you don't scratch it?
So many buffalo nickles... I only have one 😭
Yep its a D

:)
Early, wow. I have a question, if you're CRH'ing, now in light of corona, should we wear gloves?
If you believe in rolling the dice and taking a chance on life just think of what the people are doing in NYC you can't go in the door with your shoes on. Coins are the most dirtiest thing we hold
Nic-a-date albums for sale? Why not.
First and I love your videos rob
Hey rob how’s life?
It's good today brother.
Please start using a toothpick or something softer. Teaching others to us a metal object to spread the acid is only asking for trouble.
Hey rob I was wondering if there was a product that can restore dateless standing liberty quarters.
