- I wanted to get some cool dates, so I Nic-A-Dated 9 mint mark Buffalo Nickels and an 1880s V Nickel and we were able to discern dates on all of them! Surprise - it was a good idea. We had tons of really cool finds and I was shocked to see how many of the dates were the early ones. We had 80% of our coins from the teens and obviously with mint marks made them better coins to pick up! So excited and I'm looking to get my hands on a ton of these so that we can do a big hunt to see a wider arrangement of these guys! Also, the V Nickel turned out well and while it wasn't a wild date it proved that the substance works on those as well!

For nic-a-date application, you're only supposed to apply it to the date area only, so less than a drop is ideal. Once you have it on there, smudge it around until all of the date areas is covered. Wait at least 30 seconds or until a date starts to appear. If you do it right, you won't have a stain on the coin from nic-a-date, and only the date area will be cleaned. Only apply nic-a-date if a date doesn't appear to be salvageable, even under a loop or a microscope, because nic-a-date takes 50-75 percent of the value from the coin. Robfindstreasure has a really good tutorial on applying nic-a-date for the next time you do it.
Thanks for the tip! Will use your advice next time.
Hey Christian young friend , your memory is like a computer ( nothing gets deleted ) that's awesome. Cheers on your finds and for breaking the bank. Keep up the good work . God bless y'all.
Thank you!
You're welcome
THANK YOU DEAR CHRISTIAN..ITS A BLESSING COUNT WITH YOUR GREAT TIPS EVERY WEEK.SO KIND OF YOU AND IAM FEEL SO CUTE WITH COIN MASTERS LIKE YOU😀👍❤🇺🇸🗽
My pleasure!
Just a tip for any future nic-a-dating, put some of the liquid in a safe container and use a toothpick to put smaller drops pinpointed on the date so there is little chance of it eating up anywhere else. I would love to see a mass dating videos. Awesome coins there.
Thank you!
Nic-A-Date is a wonderful product, in my last nickel box I found three buffalo nickels, two of which were dateless. When I used the Nic-A-Date I discovered one of a less common one which I did not have (1919 D in case you were wondering).
Well done! That's an awesome find!
I found a 1937 D three legged Buffalo coin roll hunting yesterday. The 1926 S is the rarest Buffalo nickel. The V nickel looks like a 1883.
Well done!
Great video! I enjoyed you revealing the dates.
Glad you enjoyed!
Hey Christian. Hope you're well. Fun video. I recently Nic-a-Dated a few of my slick buffalos. No "wow" coins, but some teens. I do have what I believe is a 1921-S that I've resisted acid-dating.
Thanks! Good to hear from you.
Very interesting, enjoyed watching, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Cool video. I’ve been meaning to do this with my dateless Buffalos too.
You should!
V nickel looks like an 1883. From my sense of everything has got 2 cohesive I wondered why you didn't use a toothpick and just spread the Nic a date on the actual date instead of going up past the area just to kind of make it nicer. But I guess that's my OCD working. LOL
I was thinking the same thing. A toothpick dipped in Nic-a-date might of worked better.
I think I'll do that going forward.
You should do a video on key dates or key dates that you have
You had some great luck with those Buffalo Nickels. I am looking forward to watching more video's with the NIc a Date from you. Just remember to use wear Gloves when wearing with Chemicals.
Good point! Thank you!
Really interesting stuff!
Thanks!
That stuff is pretty slick
Cool process .... never knew how to do this
Very cool. I have an s no date buffalo I want to check. That acid should show mint marks too . try getting a glass acid dropper from a science supply store. Less acid more precisely placed should mean you can let it set longer without damage. Also you should immediatly rinse the acid off in cold clean running water to remove all traces of the acid . the devices should be able to be shown with acid etching through the entire thickness of the coin. The acid is removing the bulk of the metal from around where it was compressed. The devices and bust are going to have much higher density and hardness do to the compression of the crystaline structure the metal is comprised of. I bet it would dissolve the devices right off of modern single strike nickles . would you have an ultra modern nickel thats not worth keeping, id love to see if there is a differance.
Thanks for the tips! I like the idea about the modern nickels on my next vid.
@@TreasureTownCoins i am glad to have an Idea you like. I look forward to seeing how a single strike modern nickle does .
Thanks for the info got some dateless gonna get some nicadate
Good luck!
Lol I think I commented before your shop doesnt usually sell dateless right? I really want to do exactly what you do in this video except with vinegar, peroxide, and salt
The mixture I mention doesnt leave dark marking the tone of the acid matches the coin color better...not sure if its best method though
Also to damage a smaller area with the acid use a toothpick to place a smaller sized dot
Ah that's interesting. I think I'll use a toothpick going forward.
@@TreasureTownCoins yeah wooden or metal toothpick is what I use.
Unfortunately, nickels with restored dates are worth very little, even the key coins. If you have more patience, you can sometimes bring out a date using very strong vinegar. It takes a lot longer, but doesn't discolor the coin as much.
OR, use a toothpick or something and put it over JUST the date. it makes it look so much more appealing to the eye.
Thanks for the info! Have not tried that method.
where do you get the Nic a date ?
I bought on eBay.
I'd suggest not using so much Nic-A-Date. A full drop covers way too much of the coin. Maybe just part of a drop, enough to barely cover the date. Might even use a Q-tip to dab just the date. You covered half the neck of the V-nickel. Enjoy your videos. I've been collecting since the early to mid 1960s. Used to get buffalo nickles in pocket change back then. ;-)
Thanks! I've got some good tactics going forward thanks to the awesome viewers.
Interesting :)
Glad you think so!
Later there will be a terrible spot on the nickel
Definitely will be some residue.
coinhawk seahawk yeah that’s the only bad thing about nic-a-date
Were is your cone shop
Nic-A-Dating is fun
Right on.
I would do the entire coin so the color is consistent.
Interesting point!
I have a coin guy who nick-a-dates buffs n vnick, and sell the semi keys for 1/5 of the value
So key dates he charges 1/4 the value
Okay - thanks for the info! Will keep that in mind!
1883 is very good
Rinse them off with water rather than wiping it off.
Just came in to say h
Hey! Thanks!
