  • That makes it FIVE rolls of coins that have had their dates revealed using acid Nic-A-Date restoration techniques and today was definitely the best two rolls yet! We finally got some solid key date coins that are actually in pretty good shape... definitely makes this series worth it. While the acid will tank the values on the coins in a massive way, these coins are still rare and made for a super cool video series. Hope you enjoy the video and get ready for the next two episodes! I'll have more analysis on date breakdown for mint mark coins in my next video coming in about two months!

    I decided to start a book after purchasing one at an online auction from a local seller. I nearly cried when I picked the book up and a third of the nickels had that nic a date stain. I couldn’t see that in the photos and I felt like I wasted my money. I then started acquiring nickels in the best shape I could afford. Well, I may need to change my standard for some of the key date coins. Good video. Thanks.

    Nice finds! I can't get Nickadate here in the UK, so I've been using white vinegar. My two best finds have been a 14s and a 21s!
    I have a theory that there a quite a few semi and key dates to be uncovered from the dateless buffalos, as they won't have been spotted and removed from circulation.

      Definitely - that's awesome with the results! Is it a government ban? Or just annoying shipping?

      @@TreasureTownCoins Thanks!
      We don't have any nickel coins here so there's no real need for it. And it's unavailable to ship from Amazon US to the UK, so I wonder if it contains a substance that cannot be posted? It could be disastrous if it leaked during transit.

    Treasure Town, before you get rid of the ones you couldn't get dates off of:
    Try nic-a-dating them one more time, and this time, while the liquid is still on the coin, look through it at where the date should be. You will more than likely be able to decipher a date this way even if it is not as pronounced.
    I recently nic-a-dated several Buffalos, one of which was a 1917 that was so corroded it took me 5 attempts to get a clear date, but during the 4th attempt, I was able to see 1917 through the liquid while it was still on the coin, even though the date wasn't fully visible when I wiped it off. It was only visible to the naked eye without looking through the liquid after the 5th attempt.
    I hope this technique will work for you and anyone else restoring dates on nickels.

    I make my own nic-a-date I mix salt, white vinegar, peroxide, and a junk nickel, then put it on the nickel using a wooden toothpick to carefully spread it in the date area in a less obvious way and it appears to cause less damage since a slightly weaker and colorless chemical and definitely much cheaper to make than nic-a-date and I believe makes less noticeable damages than nic-a-date

    Cool video! When I find dateless buffalos I usually don't nick-a-date them though.

      Try a coin dealer at a flea market. eBay and Amazon will have them as well. Possibly a hobby shop.....Hobby Lobby.

    Why do the Buffalo nickles dates dissappear on a much larger scale than any other coin?

    • @KansaiSamurai
      @KansaiSamurai 3 года назад +1

      The date was one of the highest points in the coin, so as the coin was worn, the date was one of the first things to disappear. The Standing Liberty quarter had a similar problem.
